I’m surprised you seem so adverse to this feeling like a John Carpenter film. To me it couldn’t feel much more like Halloween. It’s ironic that Halloween inspired literally hundreds of slasher films in the 80s, but to me It Follows is the only film that shares the one thing that I think makes Halloween so successful; which is the style. The anamorphic photography, the long takes, the use of the steadicam, the synth score that not only sounds awesome but really sets the tone and atmosphere of the film. Then you have the teenagers seemingly without parental figures having to take on an unstoppable killer, whilst dealing with coming of age themes. I think It Follows was one of the first 80s throwback films if you will, along with The Guest, that takes a film like Halloween and uniquely uses the same techniques but expands on the storytelling in a really interesting way. Kind of like the way De Palma did with Hitchcock.
Definitely has the John Carpenter-esque film score. I know It Follows has a love/hate reputation but I consider it to be a modern day horror masterpiece.
I think Drive really kicked off the 90s throwback in the 2010s. The Guest is one hell of a film, as is It Follows. It made Maika Monroe a horror icon of sorts.
Someone who knows the BENEFIT of HDR/DV and explains it easily for anyone to understand! Your exactly bang on - its a 4k upscale so resolution is not going to be a big difference BUT its the HDR with improved colours and contrast (deeper blacks) that is the game changer:)
I try my best! I’m the first to admit I’m no expert but I don’t see why some people write off a UHD just because the film is not natively 4K. Thanks for watching!

I understand SDR vs HDR vs DV fully but even I don't always notice the difference...largely because I'm not taking the time to do a side by side comparison of the same film with two different DR presentations. What's in front of me either looks great or it doesn't. To me, HDR and DV isn't about deeper blacks/increased contrast..it's about *frame-appropriate* contrast throughout the film. Regardless of the DR format used, it can be done well or it can be done poorly. It all comes down to how the film was shot vs how the DR job was done coupled with the subjective eye of the viewer. Case in point, I'm not at all a fan of V for Vendetta's HDR - "director's intent" or "it's the best it's ever looked" is irrelevant to me if what's in front of me doesn't look that good to my eyes.

It's actually David Robert Mitchell's second movie. He made a film called The Myth Of The American Sleepover in 2010. Anyway this is one of my favourite horror films of the 2000's. I've already got my 4K copy.
I still haven’t ordered or picked up yet. I’m giving real thought into paying this much for a single release of a film. I redid my monthly budget calculation and it’s hard to justify the hard box no matter how pretty. The single standard release takes up way less shelf space as well. Good to see I’m not the only one having this quandary.
Agree i think its one of the more overrated horror movies of recent memory, mostly just cause it isnt scary and its metaphor is pretty basic. Imo everyone imo!
Not really getting into these Second Sight releases. Don’t get me wrong, they are great films, but I only got the regular Drive 4K. Might get this come sale time for the Atmos. Having said that one title I will be pre-ordering the Collectors Edition from Second Sight is the 4K release of The Hitcher… whenever that will come.
I call A24 films “Slow Horror” because the pacing is one you have to stick with for the pay off. A24 films you have to invest yourself in it. I enjoy many of their productions but that’s the one thing I find in all their films-they are a slow burn. I have to be in a certain mood to watch.
This and Babadook really kicked off the most recent "elevated" horror trend. I'm not a fan of the term, either. You really have to go back to movies like The Exorcist to honestly explore the concept. But it's just another pointless buzzword to create another way to gatekeep. Alternately, I totally got the Carpenter comparison when I first saw this. At least in concept, if not so much in execution. It definitely felt like one of his headier, high concepts like They Live.

Good moments, but one of the few movies I kept falling asleep to.

What TV do you have? I always think a 4k version looks a lot better than it does on blu-ray even if it looks good on blu-ray.

It's a good film. But overrated.
Unfortunately I didn’t rate this film that well. It’s basically about a killer sexual disease
That’s surface level. That’s not at all what the film is really about metaphorically speaking.
