They had already lost their minds back in season 3 when Steven came back from the dead, then a few years later Fallon came back from the dead then that Moldavian massacre which killed no one except two people 😂😂

To save the show they attempted bringing on "Headline" plots. UFO abductions were hot topic at the time. As were child kidnappings by a parent. In this case grandparent (Sable).
I'm from Germany. And I don't know what shocked me more. This scene or when the announcer said after the end credits, that this was the very last episode for ever!

I would have loved to have seen a science fiction spinoff with Fallon in space. (I'm not saying it would have been good, but you don't see such a radical departure in genres, the same character going from a comedy into a slasher film, etc.)

Dallas did the dream in 1986 and The Colby's decides to outdo them by involving a UFO
Not to forget to mention JR's journey through the Its a wonderful life fantasy and the angel/devil fiasco in the dallas series finale of 1991.
The dream was necessarily because they wanted to bring back a character who'd been killed off! Still makes me laugh to type that sentence! This UFO thing was really clutching at straws!

The dream was way more ridiculous than this UFO. The even stupider thing was that it was a dream on Dallas but on Knots Landing Bobby was still dead.
They didn't do the dream because it was necessary. There are ways to retcon things away selectively without canceling the whole thing. No more or less ridiculous than "it was just a dream".
They canceled the whole year because Dallas had 2 teams of producers fighting for dominance. One year one team of producers was fired, and they made a season as they saw fit.
Next year, they rehired the fired producers, and fired those they kept before.
So the rehired team couldn't hold back the urge to shit all over what the previous team made.
They didn't do the dream because it was necessary. They did the dream because they wanted to cancel everything the previous team did.
Because the intention wasn't making a good show, but to use the show as a battlefield in a competition between grown men with the minds of little children.
The scripted lines "I had a horrible dream. But none of it happened" had the message of the winning producer team showing the finger to the team that lost.
And then that producer went to turn Dallas into a surrealist fever dream of JR in a gunfight, JR in prison, JR in an asylum, JR with the satan.
Because the producer in charge was a little kid in a grown body, and should have never been allowed to take a high position of any kind, and probably only got any out of nepotism.
this scene helped me pass an impacted turd.

Emma was just 26 when this was filmed, probably in late 1986. US air date was 26th March 1987, and UK air date was 2nd September 1987.

Me and my friends were cracking up over this shit in 6th grade.
Fallon was clearly suffering from Postpartum psychosis. I would have loved it if there had been a third season of "The Colbys" with Fallon suffering from more hallucinations until Dr. Perez diagnosed her condition and treated her.
But her shoes weren’t scuffed......
Jeff did wonder if she had relapsed into her "Randle" persona when they went to Denver.

As I've often said, they just don't make them like The Colbys anymore.
Fuck whether it was the last ending, this was the most bizarre twist ever imagined in a soap. Nobody's meant to know what happened next. Do real abductees who are never seen again, tell their stories. I feel it was a tribute to both that and the scifi world in general. I'm one of the few who just accepted it for what it was.
For all you MacGyver (original series) fans out there, without even looking at the end credits, you can tell that the music was composed by Ken Harrison. Seems to be a bit of "Mask Of The Wolf" and "Ghost Ship" about it

LOL I was just a kid and I watched this with my mom. I remember when she said.. "oh I wonder what happens now. Fallon went into a UFO" and I was like. shiiiieeddd..this is just weird. But at the same time I felt like this isn't supposed to happen in a soap opera.

The writers knew The Colby's most likely would not return for a third season so they just wrote whatever they wanted. They didn't have to explain it the next season.
Yes, but Fallon and Jeff went back to Dynasty. And the eight season of Dynasty started with Jeff looking for Fallon and then finding her unconscious by the road. So the writers had to explain this on Dynasty.
@@ntiadicted They chose to bring Fallon (Jeff) back to the main series. That is the only reason an explanation was 'required'.
I thought this was like a "Hail Mary", maybe to get the netbosses curious enough to give it another 1/2 season...

I was too young to even understand what was going on in these Dynasty series back in 1990, but I'm very sure it wasn't a science fiction series but suddenly this scene just came out which was strange but probably a lot of people were experiencing this in real life and the directors incorporated in to the series. 🤷♂️
This was shown in March 1987 in the USA and September 1987 here in the UK. I remember watching it at the time. I was 8.

The story was continued on Dynasty. Fallon told Jeff about the spaceship but he didn't believe her.
If you pay attention to The Colbys, starting the next episode by canceling what they ended the previous episode with, was their writing formula.
Every episode ends with the direst of cliffhangers. Death everywhere. Murder, accidents, people falling to their deaths, people pronounced dead.
Next episode? "Oh things weren't as bad as they seemed. We only THOUGHT someone died but then they breathed again, and 10 minutes later were fine. That fall to the death wasn't so bad - the person that fell didn't even get bruised. What looked like death, was just a trick of your eyes - look the person shot actually dodged that bullet, and you thought they took it, you little fool."
Had The Colbys continued, of course they'd cancel everything this episode ends with. Like they always do.
I'm sure even the dead Frankie would have come back to life without an explanation.
"Last episode you saw her die, but this episode we'll show her in a hospital and say she ALMOST died, in a 'don't believe your eyes' manner."
The Colbys was always a schizophrenic series like that.
I imagine next episode they would have shown Fallon awaking in her bed and saying "I had the strangest dream!"

this was also in DYnasty itself, but somehow IU can never find the clip in the episodes of the several seasons. I remember seeing this on TV and even before anythiung was visible IU knew exactly what was going to happen. Really freaky!

I think on Dynasty when Fallon and Jeff "returned" it was implied that she was hallucinating somehow and given her past with her mind playing tricks (her subconscious making her believe Adam had raped her the night of her wedding when she disappeared, when he got into her room but in reality he stopped he never touched her, all out of guilt for harboring sexual feelings for her brother), who knows how the story would have unfolded had there been a S3

At the time one of my theories was that the craft was part of Jason's IMOS project dispatched to rescue his daugher in law stranded in the desert. I tried.

It was never explained. This was the last episode. The ratings were awful because they kept writing increasingly insane plots like this, so the show was canceled.
