that's it for me. peter pan is immature, he never grows up, never takes responsibility for his actions because he is "young", like James (the character in the song), on the other hand, Wendy was always a mature girl that knew she had to grow up like betty. so james lost betty, like peter lost wendy

the "peter losing wendy" line gets me because the whole song is about how past (and young) love is fleeting and yet still lingers and affects you in the present just because of how intense it is. the person you loved in the past never ages in your memory, especially if you lose contact with them throughout the years, you only remember them as they were and therefore they never get old just like peter pan. but you are wendy, you grow up and you learn and you leave peter pan behind.

In the begining she's at home (her country era) then she steps into the pop world where she's happy (in the magical forest scene) then she starts to move forward again but finds herself in a bad place and eventually she ends up back home which could be a metaphor for her almost going back to her country roots a little bit. I love your reaction to this! I kind of thought that the visuals of this told three different stories at once. One was the story of her music: she started out writing songs in her room, then her success took her to beautiful places, then music saved her when her life turned upside down, and finally she returned to a private life. It could also be the story of Wendy going with the pixie dust to Neverland and exploring the good and bad before going back home and leaving Peter Pan. It could also tell the story of Betty and James. The first scene is where she feels like an old cardigan and James brings light to her life. Their relationship is the beautiful forest scene but the drowning is when he cheated on her. The final scene could be when she looks back at the relationship in retrospect and sees the comfort that it had brought her.

Ok the piano thing that you asked..i saw in twitter that the broken key is the 7th key..it could represent her 7th album lover..all her previous albums came after 2-3 years of breaks but folklore came only after 11months..that means lover couldn't fulfill it's journey like the other albums that's why it's half broken
When she follows the piano, aka the music, she finds enchantment and later home. When she goes for the chair... or her social position, she finds herself drowning in a chaotic storm. The cardigan represents her, and choosing the wear it means, she finally accepted herself fully after the journey through music up to this point. At least that's how I see the metaphor.

I heard someone’s theory about the clipped piano key was that it’s the seventh key, and it’s meant to represent how Taylor’s seventh album (Lover) didn’t get the full amount of time to exist that her other albums did. Most of the time we wait 2-3 years between albums, and it’s been like 11 months since Lover.
Rumors says that William Bowery is Joe Alwyn. The co-writer Taylor Swift is talking about in this album. William is his grandfather's name while Bowery is a hotel name in New York so I think this album does not say that they broke up. (people say they did because of the transition of melody from Lover to Folklore).

Hey there! If you didn't know already, that crooked key in the beginning of the video is the 7th key of a certain scale on the piano which I can't recall at the moment. It is theorized to be about her 7th album Lover, whose lifetime was unexpectedly cut in half due to certain circumstances!
I’m pretty sure the portrait in the second shot is her grandfather (the song epiphany from the album is abt her grandfather) and the painting kind of looks like the visual for her Rhode Island home

Oooo I think , the piano thing at the begining, it's chord B, which the 7th chord represent her 7th album lover, an era of hers that not yet finished (the lover fest, cruel summer MV, etc) because of the pandemic, that's why it's broken
Ok the piano thing that you asked..i saw in twitter that the broken key is the 7th key..it could represent her 7th album lover..all her previous albums came after 2-3 years of breaks but folklore came only after 11months..that means lover couldn't fulfill it's journey like the other albums that's why it's half broken
When she follows the piano, aka the music, she finds enchantment and later home. When she goes for the chair... or her social position, she finds herself drowning in a chaotic storm. The cardigan represents her, and choosing the wear it means, she finally accepted herself fully after the journey through music up to this point. At least that's how I see the metaphor.
