they are a lot of work! hearing rehab is no joke honestly i think they’re worth it if you’re willing to put in the work. i got implanted april 20th and activated may 4th and there is so so so much work to be done but i can definitely see the light at the end of the tunnel. that being said it is definitely just a tool you’re still gonna have to read lips and use sign but it does help in a lot of situations it’s just a whole bunch of recognizing sounds and then learning to understand which a lot of work!

What can i say it's a scary scenario, I'm in a similar situation although we are both young, what i can say is this, if you are at that point where you are fully dedicated to relearning how to hear with trials, ups and down then go for it, not to say that it's bad, but your natural hearing will cease from that decision which only you can make, knowing your body, strengths and weaknesses, Godspeed miss Shreya

Same here. 2 weeks ago I just got new phonak hearing aids but I think I might get cochlear implant too. Cochlear implant is so expensive than hearing aids.

Hi Shreya💐I have followed you since you were at school which must be around 6yrs,as you know I am from the UK & worn hearing aids for over 30yrs,here in the UK we get free hearing aids but on the downside if you are over 18 our health service will only pay for one ear to be implanted, even with hearing aids I can now only hear an odd word or two so would be able to get a CI but if I was your age with little hearing I would probably have the worst ear implanted!
As for you Shreya I seem to recall a while back you had a brain operation so would that affect you getting a CI? If you were allowed & your insurance company paid for the implant I would get it done now incase your hearing suddenly gets worse! I would get the worst ear implanted & give it a year or so for your brain to get used to hearing different things! And when you take off your CI at night you would still have hearing in the other ear! Plus a CI can be linked to a hearing aid in your other ear to give it balance! I don't know whether you work or still at college or both but another reason to do it right away is it's probably a good time to take the time off rather being in a full time job & having to take time off! But don't get both ears implanted at once, get one done & get used to hearing new sounds! The audiologist would not have said get it done if it did not help you!
When you were little you got hearing aids, you could have just signed & been in an almost silent world! There are some great processors out there now! I don't know what your speech is like as I can't hear you but hearing more will help it! The longer you think about a CI the less chance you will go through with it! At the moment your struggling with hearing fatigue which will get worse! A CI just like a hearing aid won't give you normal hearing but I hate the thought of living in a silent world! Talk it over with family & other CI users! Maybe as I say try with one ear implanted & take it from there, you have been lucky with your hearing stable but it could go overnight! The technology is there please think about using it & if the insurance pays happy days! I hope this has helped,we have had some lovely messaging in the past & you have blossomed in to a beautiful young lady 💖💖💖💗💗
