  • This is a new one for me.
A Bosch GBH 5-40 DCE Hammer with a smashed up striker pin inside the tool holder.
Not unusual to see a striker pin brake or fail like this. But it is unusual for a bosch hammer.
Normaly I see this in hilti hammers or milwaukees. But never Bosch hammers.

Dean is a man who has perfected his craft. He makes it look easy because he's been doing it a long time. That comes with repetition. People say I make my craft look easy, but I've been doing it over 20 years. People can do it if they're willing to put in the time. I'm actually looking for old broken tools, just so I can try this while process. His videos are very well done and informative. Thanks Dean, you're the best

I think Bosch could be persuaded that this type of fracture on a striker bolt was a manufacturing defect and not as a result of normal wear.

Surely there must have been a wierd defect in that part for it to split right across like that. If other people see that failure on a young tool again - Bosch needs to find out why. As ever Dean your videos are very well narrated. I learn more from you every time. Especially diagnostics.

Dean. I work in the electronics industry here in ireland. Not commented before. Love the way you broke down the component parts of this hammer drill. Made it so simple. Based on your videos I’ve taken the same methodical approach in my own industry and encountered an issue with a touch panel from a well known controls system brand. Needless to say, I took it apart and recorded a video of what I was doing. I found the flaw and am surprised to say was able to fix it with a bit of solder and a cable tie. Happy customer. Never would have even attempted it had I not been so lucky as to come across your CZcams channel. Keep it up. You are a master at your craft. Very few folk left like you these days. Trust me, I’m of the generation that sits between what is now and what is yours. Would love to come and work with you in the shop some day. That would be an experience.

We had the strike lock up on a brand new hammer a year ago or so, it was never even used. I think i now know what happened, probably stored the case on its side in the van.
it's a nice hammer but i really hate the trigger design, everyone always accidentally turns off the hammer while handling it.

This was clearly a case of a manufacturers fault and regardless of Bosch warranty policy they should handle this one under warrenty even after 2 years of manufacturing date in my opinion.
Unfortunately Bosch is not the easiest when it comes to warranty cases ...

we have a 11241EVS, dad bought it more than 20 years ago. We rarely use it, maybe 0-3 times a year. Recently it didnt want to hammer, have to pull on the tool holder sleeve to loose the chisel and somehow the hammer would then work. once it warmed up it stayed hammering until the job is done. But I was curious and opened the cover to check it, all the grease is black. And damn, I didnt know you have to put back the screws like that, i just straight up screwed it back in. Did I screw my hammer?

  • @alouisschafer7212

Must be a manufacturing issue.. A striker pin must be made from some of the hardest most ductile steel you can get for it to last at all. So this pin must have just been forged incorrectly or the root cause was impurity in the steel who knows.
Bosch should be notified about this failure.

@@deandohertygreaser I was curious on this particular use case scenario so to speak. A famed hammer of theirs with a sheered hardened steel part faulty on a machine that doesn't appear to be abused.
No doubt this should be a good will jobby from Bosch UK. They and so many manufactures swerve so much liability simply from the customer or small/medium construction company forgetting to or simply not registering in the required 30 day time for the 3 year warranty.
