    Always seemed to me that the previously paramilitary connected loyalist politicians spoke a lot of sense, such as the late David Ervine. Important that a new Ireland is inclusive of those of us who celebrate their British culture.

  • @Colin-IE
    @Colin-IE Před 11 dny +1

    I think Davy has a reasonable approach to this. Do unionists honestly think the South is some scary place? Maybe this is controversial to say but if Unionists think the ROI is like a massive Falls Road type of area/attitude , they would be in for a surprise. Nobody gives a hoot about religion down here. Honestly, I think their culture would be accepted as long as the flag burning stops. Marches and Bonfires are fine in my book. Everybody wants to belong to a culture, obviously Planters Culture isn’t conventional compared to other nations but they are entitled to have it and enjoy it. Craigyhill removed flags off their bonfire which I think is a positive example.

      The whole point is he is engaging with Republicans and others and trying to change their minds in their own forum.
      Very courageous.
      As for the Shinners in the south , I can't see how they can be traitors when they havent been in power.

    Disillusioned Kerry man here; irrespective of whether the Island is united or not, it's going to be a totally different place and foreign to us by the end of the century. The white indigenous population will become a minority, being overrun by Third World migrants; hence it will become much poorer, and the quality of life will not be the same.
    Immigration is something we should be focused on, but unfortunately that's not going to happen. Instead, we'll obsess over a UI and other trivia rather than the more existential issues confronting us. It's burying one's head in the sand.
    This 'Unity Forum' is irrelevant and at worst a distraction, for very soon there won't be orange or green nor British or Irish, but Black and Brown. God help us.

      Unfortunately for you we here in Ireland are vastly underpopulated about 5 million shy for a functioning economy. We have not got a proper internal economy, so we are out on a limb when times get tough and exports, which we are entirely dependent on, dry up. Most countries have a fall back to their own economy when times are hard, we don't. It is a global village now and people come and go as they please. Demographics change over time. Look at Poland, we were inundated with Polish people. Now there economy is strong and Poles can stay in their own country. Look at us here in Ireland, we now have full employment. Gone are the days of "no blacks and no Irish".

      @@raymonddixon7603Without getting into the pros and cons of immigration, I’d like to know where you got your economic theory from about being underpopulated for “a functioning economy”.
      Denmark for instance has a similar population to Ireland and has always been a very successful economy, and indeed still is. Both the left and the right in Denmark maintain a very strict policy of limiting immigration, and have absolutely no plans to double the size of the population, as you say Ireland must do.

    • @atroubledlandcreator
      @atroubledlandcreator  Před 20 dny +9

      Nobody is forcing anyone out of anywhere.
      The Unionist majority is dwindling to a mere few thousand with many more Irish nationalists as kids than Unionists , it wont be long until that majority is a memory.
      Engaging and talking about our future hurts nobody and in fact will help Unionists understand what this new Ireland will look like.
      I've accepted it is coming regardless of what my political views are, its a train coming down the line I can do nothing about other than fight for my views and my communities needs in any new Ireland.
      They must accept Unionists and give enough power and respect to the Unionist identity to make it a peaceful process. Nobody wants another conflict - Imagine putting our children through that what we went through - so it is important to engage no matter what your views are, they all must be heard.
