  • Grýla is a fearsome Icelandic ogress who is notorious for her appetite for misbehaving children. As a figure in Icelandic folklore, she is believed to wander the land during Christmas time, seeking out disobedient youngsters.
    Grýla captures these misbehaving children using her long arms and sharp claws. Once captured, she carries them back to her mountainous lair, where she places them in a large cooking pot to prepare her gruesome feast. The threat of being captured and cooked by Grýla serves as a cautionary tale, encouraging children to behave and obey their parents during the holiday season.
    This episode of Rest for the Wicked features dark ambient music and the sound of crackling fire.

      They have. The Witch.
      Quite dark and depressing movie using the European Hag (Hexe) as motif. Not Iceland but the theme fits perfectly.

    I woke up early morning once from a nightmare of an ugly large hag at the foot of my bed....in my dream I shouted "are you a god, demon or angel", with a response of "I am neither, I am Grila". Never thought much of the dream other than a bit of adrenaline at times....and was truly amazed when I learnt years later that a creature named Grila exists, and it was indeed an ugly old hag just as I had dreamt. As Carl Jung once said, there might be something to this "collective unconscious thingy that we are all a part of"....ok Jung might not have used the exact word "thingy" :-)

      Did she try to eat you?

    • @mortdigo
      @mortdigo Před 4 měsíci

      @@restforthewicked6842 No she did not want to eat me since I was a good kid. But what i will say is that I was busy working Enochian magic at the time, I thought that perhaps the name Grila was referring to one of the enochian angels. Didnt find a match and forgot about the relevance of the name of this entity.....then years later found out that Grila is indeed a hag in common folklore...note: at the time Google and the net was not as popular as it is today, so simply doing a google search did not cross my mind at the time.

    I've never heard of this one before. How do you pronounce that?
