  • The Columbus Limestone is a rock formation that occurs at the surface in Franklin County, Ohio, and on several ODNR properties along Lake Erie, such as Marblehead Lighthouse State Park, Kelleys Island State Park, and the Lakeside Daisy State Nature Preserve. Certain layers within the Columbus Limestone contain abundant, well-preserved fossils. Many of these can viewed in the walls and entrance steps of the Ohio Statehouse, which was constructed from the Columbus Limestone.
Join ODNR paleontologist Mark Peter, who will discuss how the Columbus Limestone formed within an ancient inland sea approximately 400 million years ago. He will provide an overview of its fascinating fossils and share some of the best places around Ohio to see them.
