Hi
Ola
There is nothing that warms a Portuguese heart more than foreigners trying to learn Portuguese! And yes: we always find your accent cute! 🥰
"we" ? Speak for yourself!
@@andrepereira744 you don’t???!!! Definitely odd! For the typical welcoming Portuguese at least!
@@klimtkahlo Odd? Odd is you find an accent cute.
@@klimtkahlo Exactly, who gave you permission to represent other people?
@@ricardopontes7177 speaking in the royal plural exclusively about myself! 😁
Great teacher you are, you were born for the Job. as a Portugues I would like to thank you for making Portugal Home and teaching my language to others. I love what you do, you are a blessing to my Country . Your Country too. God bless you .
i too am Portuguese and I love that your id has the word "cleaning" in it. ha ha ha. If we're not cleaning something we don''t know what to do with ourselves! ha ha

Greetings from Sweden !
Honestly u sound and look like a native. Great obversation. Even though I'm a Portuguese living in UK I never realized many things about Portugal in general until u've point them out, as to me them just come out naturally 😅 and I'm used to them! So great job and keep it up.
Another quick tip: just like "You're welcome" is slowly been replaced in colloquial speech by phrases like "no problem" or "no worries", I've found that there's 2 pretty common expressions, mainly used amongst the younger generations, that also replace the portuguese counterpart of "You're welcome", i,e. "De nada":
"Sem problema" (which roughly translates to "no problem" or "no worries") and "Na boa" (a less formal option that means something along the lines of "it's all good" )
Na boa is only used among young people, it's slang.
@@dudanunesbleff I did say "mainly used amongst the younger generations" and I also mentioned that it's colloquial speech. I even mentioned that it's "less formal" than "sem problema". I don't know what more do you want from me.

The "cedilha" is crucial when saying "força". Because people wouldn't feel as much at ease if you went around saying "forca" (gallows) to them.

I am enjoying your videos. One suggestion. I know my memory only works with lots of repetition. I'd love to see you do the same sort of thing you're doing now, only with less English, and more repetition of the Portuguese phrases in different contexts. Thanks!
Thanks ❤
Welcome!
Muito obrigado. I like videos where you interview people on the streets. Regards!
Não sei há quanto tempo cá está, mas parabéns, já tem uma excelente dicção e lógica das palavras! 👍
Lol e obvio que ela e bilingue e tem pais portugueses. Eu nasci e cresci entre Inglaterra e Portugal, por isso sou bilingue. E uma cena super normal na Europa hoje em dia.
Wow , after 4 years this is making Sense
Wow, Liz. You are a wealth of information. So glad I found your CZcams channel. My wife and I are planning a trip to Portugal next summer, and since I'm adventurous and not easily embarrassed I'm looking forward to exchanging a few words with native speakers. You're very good with pronunciation and accents, im impressed! And you do look like a native portuguese girl, at first i was like 'she has a very good british accent' then it hit me, that you were not Portuguese!
You are just the best. I sure hope you start a class for the non expatriats. I understand your lessons better than anyone else on YT

I believe this is the one i took last week. I'm not moving there, just love the language and traveling soon to Lisbon. @JamesSaffell @@TalktheStreets
E Então is more like a question. It's like Afinal? or Como é que é? or Como é que fica? E Então? Can also be a salutation when you meet a friend or someone you already know. It's implicit in the expression E Então(está tudo bem or estás bem)? Portuguese is a vast Language with many, many, many options for the same words or expressions. But you are doing very well in Portugal. Bôa Continuação!
Fabulous stuff - will learn these phrases and fire them at the "oporto" cafe next to the office!
I love these quick lessons Liz and I learnt 4 that I have never heard before and two that I knew but thought they meant something else😂
Hahha great stuff glad to help!!
It's very good! What I would change is to keep the Portuguese all the time on the screen!
Love your videos and just arrived in the Lisbon area a little over a week ago! Would love to meet up for coffee if you are in this area! Would also like to learn more about your portuguese lessons (in-person/1:1) 😊
Also a good one, and useable to use when ever, is: pois 😉

what... your portuguese is so good
Hello Liz. Thank you for this wonderful video. My question about Obrigado nós, should we say obrigado or obrigada since nós is plural. Thank you
I have been watching O Sabio on RTP Play and I have seen pretty much all of these used.
Obrigado eu
Hi Liz! I would love to know of any good European Portuguese books to read! Love the video ❤️❤️
I love the “posso?” tip. I lived in Mexico City and it’s a society of extreme politeness. Many of the tips here translate to how daily life is lived there. For example, it’s common before stepping into someone’s house or if someone is blocking an entrance to smile and say “Puedo?” Same meaning, may I (please is inferred)? Another example is Obrigada, Eu. If you buy something at a shop and tell the owner or person who works there “Thank you” they say, “No (please), on the contrary.” Gracias…no, al contrario. Same sentiment as “Obrigada, eu.”
Will you try these out? Which other frequent phrases do you hear out & about?
A great video Liz! I love these type of videos. Definitely adding these to my list. I noticed when you pointed to the videos, the thumbnail says "file missing"
Lovely additions to my collection.
Are there any expressions for "get it together!"
Obrigada Liz és uma inspiração para mi.😊
Vamos lá! Vá lá! Sei lá!
@@keanancupido Yes, Liz noticed that, too (see her very first post): she then lincluded the links to the respective videos in the description.
Really enjoyed this video and can't wait to use some of these phrases in a few days.
Is your mic on btw? Sounds like camera audio.
Wow. These phrases are really valuable. Obrigado. Hey Liz, more of these please. Need to have these in my vocabulary on my next trip to Portugal. Please see my message in Messenger.
The string of ways we can express instant perception of something (or pretending we do) is rather abundant; so, alongside 'percebi' and 'entendi', you might try 'compreendi' or '(es)tou a ver'. The last one translates to your very much common 'I see...'
Your channel is so wonderful! Do you offer a complete online course? :)
Odriga 😘😘😘😘😘😘😘
Obrigado.
Can you explain more please?
@@TarabulusLibya in Brazilian Portuguese we use /à vontade/ as a answer to /posso?/.
@@heliobranco2139 obrigado pela sua resposta.
Over 50k views, and I bet ~1/4 are mine as I'm trying to commit these to memory as I'm going to Portugal very soon.😁🍷
Hi, do you ever do provide private lessons teaching Portuguese?
I am a native Portuguese and only now have I understood that we do "swallow" so many syllables 😅🤣I'm sorry if we are difficult to understand. I guess that because we hear words that already have "swallowed" syllables since we are very, very little, we don't really realize it when it happens.
"Entendi" é mais posh :)
In Madeira I hear "ta log" or "te log" a lot, which I think is something like the Spanish "hasta la luego" -- but of course with the usual 90% of letters missing.
Yes, all around Portugal people say "até logo", but because it's so fast and locals drop off letters, it sound like "té log" ☺️
Obrigado, senhora Liz! Uma pergunta : quando você diz "obrigado nós", não é preciso dizer "obrigados nós?"
(and yes, great video, muito útil!)
It would make sense but no, its just obrigado!
Now I know it's "nós" and not "nos"!
Hi Liz! I notice that business use the feminine form obrigada, and sometime male shop clerks do to. Is that a general thing? Is that because they are speaking on behalf of the empresa (feminine)?
