    I am of opinion we now have to keep spamming ammo manufacturers with requests of making more of ammo - namely Hornady and S&B to get reasonably priced training stuff to get more ppl interested in builds etc. as when ammo is available even conservative gun makers will react eg for new CZ600 you only need 8.6 barrel and it is easy to swap.

    I can definitely see 8.6BLK subsonic being used for special operations when shooting through barriers like walls and windows and so on. Garand Thumb did a downrange comparison video of the sounds of subsonic and suppressed rounds going overhead - and it was WILD how little sound both 300BLK and 8.6BLK make in subsonic form.

  • @coreymoyers

    The quest for subsonic toys created a long, super high twist rate round I have wanted for years. Solid cooper doesn’t fly apart at extreme twist rates. Longer was always better but lead never could hold up.
    Next, We need small caliber 55-grain bullets with high twist rates at blazing speeds. Shooting needle like bullets are the future. The first company to figure it out will change the battlefield forever.

      none of this is really new. SSK industries was developing this as well as the 300blk for years referred to as the 300 whisper which under the reloading users name of 300/221, which became the 300 blk.
      300 whisper(300blk), 338 whisper(8.6 blk).... etc.... were all developed by SSK. I'm all for things being available on the commercial user market, but there have been several people that have claimed to have "designed it". if trimming a case down like a thousandth or so counts as "designing" I guess.

We unloaded 144 joints of barrel material las5 night... we're going all day and night again, lol... typing and eating for a hot minute. I had suggested to " __" about a rifling we have used in the past for " special projects & testing " such as these barrels... 12 are on the KERN as I type , also we are setting up for a few separate runs of them right now for the PVD chambers... a couple sets run in 70's tiger stripe, a couple in Rhodesian Camo, and a couple in an AMBIENT AGED COPPER mix... that simulate a " very dark flat black " look... along with their billet actions, trigger shoes, bases rings, and two final runs on 3 ( not 8.6 ) barrels and actions with a " RED... as in Red Cornellison... C. F. wrap with a " new " weave that looks like Candy Apple Red " for a NBRSA contender coming out of the autoclave soon... this is the 5th run... maintaning top level accuracy... these bbl's all shoot in the .100's... every time. KUDO'S brother for another video that proves that you all are " killing it " AS USUAL.... gotta run, will check in when I can breathe, lol! Seth

    The 1:3 twist takes some getting used to. Do not use lead core bullets especially with a suppressor. The bullet will immediately start to explode upon leaving the barrel and will take the business end of the suppressor with it. I speak from experience!
    I also learned that most brass conversion (308 to 8.6) requires neck turning to < 0.015”. If greater than 0.015” expect to be frustrated with stuck cases in the chamber.

      Bonded bullets are recommended. Sticking with subsonic velocities around 1K works well. Im also having great accuracy and luck with cast bullets 310gr. Faxon's load data for supers is over pressured and needs to be approached with extreme caution

    • @knighthawk6633
      @knighthawk6633 Před rokem

      The verdict is still out on weather the non-bonded bullets are good at subsonic velocities. Q/Faxon say it is, but after destroying my can with the non-bonded Hornady ELDs, I’m not going to risk it. That said, I have shot non-bonded bullets without the suppressor to fire-form my brass. I just have to use extra pre-caution because nothing is safe forward of the muzzle when the bullet comes apart. I saw ceiling tile and wall strikes caused by my exploding rounds.
      Lastly, I have had a lot of success shooting 198grain Zinc cast bullets without them exploding. I wish I could explore the terminal effects of the Zinc bullet. I’m sure it’s more of a penetrator round, good for poking holes and things.

    1-3 twist with a .338LM bullet, which basically only has high BC bullets, will make it very accurate. A low twist rate is useful for stabilizing at subsonic speeds. Usually the .338LM has a 1-10 twist. If I would get this it would be as a bolt action for hunting.

    I don’t understand why so many people count out a subsonic hunting rifle: most 12ga slugs become transonic around 100 yards and are still deadly (I wouldn’t recommend using it at those distances not because of its drop but because of the loss of accuracy).
    This is for sure a niche round, but as you said in the video, it serves that niche very well: hunters that want to hit medium sized game up to 500 yards while keeping everything as quiet as possible in a familiar platform.

    Do the subsonic rounds have cold bore 1st round flyers? If you let the barrel cool, would the first shot still impact the plate at 500".

    Excellent Wild Hog Round. Mid Range Urban Sniping However Longer Ranges It Drops Far To Much For Consistency In Accuracy When So Many Others Do Long Range So Far Superior To The 8.6 & The Ammo Is Ludicrous For Most.👍😀🇺🇸

      I was looking to see if I could find an 8.6 blk barrel for a Howa 1500 I have had for a few years and I came across a company called MOS-TEK that looks to be willing to make 8.6 blk barrels for a good variety of rifles and with a fairly decent selection of threading options. I realize that they are definitely not cheap depending on what options you select. However the price doesn't seem unreasonable to me for a custom barrel. I'm thinking about ordering one in a few months for that Howa I got for a steal a few years back.

      @@flintrivermonster2773 I thought howa’s were the same thread pitch as rem 700? I thought that was what faxon’s bolt barrels were? I could be wrong. Have you checked with X-caliber? I think they do custom barrels for reasonable money. Good luck!

      @flintrivermonster2773 Před rokem +1

      @@jeffhuntley2921 I have not checked X-caliber. I believe that Howa uses a metric thread that is different than the action threads used on the Remington 700. If they were the same I would definitely be all over one of the Faxon 700 barrels.

      To my understanding the upper to barrel extension fitment is small frame/AR15 sized Not Large Frame/AR10.
      As only items that are interchangeable w/ar15 are CH/Carrier, Saftey, Trigger/trigger pins& maybe the rail?
      I believe the ReceiverSet/Bolt/Barrel are all a proprietary kinda deal on POF Revolution/POF Revolution DI.
      As the only thing that pissed me off is after 2years of researching & reading/watching any review I could find, not a single person mentioned feed ramp BS. As why POF doesn’t simply just address this issue w/factory polishing/offer discounted feedRamp Polishing ect,
      As a gun leaving factory that can’t cycle any load is bs. At first min would destroy 168g eld match from Hornady by wedging between bolt & jamming Bullet into feed ramps locking up action.
      POF’s Solution to my cycling issues, as to end them a non-reliable rifle I had to pay 300 over msrp to even get my hands on. Thus, THEN They Told me the malfunction was NO issue/couldn’t be replicated. As if I wanted it to cycle the. Don’t feed it soft Point rounds, I’ve never one even bought much less loading into mag n fired. So THEIR “solution” was to not fire an ammo I never fired. You, know or they could simply offer it properly functioning direct from factory so I didn’t have to worry about USPS trying steal that Bush A Gain.
