So an interesting thing was mentioned in your video; neighbors chopping together. That was a thing here at the Schuh farm in Trempealeau Wisconsin. My grandpa had the big tractor, which at that time was the biggest tractor. So he pulled the chopper with his 3010 diesel. It is still, and still gets used every day.

Like these videos we had alot of white and oliver in our area ,all sold out of a really small dealer with maybe 2 mechanics and the owner was the salesman tons of 2-105,2-135,2-155's now gone to mostly Deere and maybe a 1/3 Case/IH .The guys that had the 135's and155's couldn't get more than 4000hrs. out of their engines .Then the dealership got bought by a dealership that had New Holland and many of the White guys got Genesis tractors and loved those many got their first MFWD then .Our area was never heavy in dairy but lots of hogs owned by farmers now 98 percent of the hogs are owned by large companies .I bought a old building on main street of our small town that was once a Golden Sun feed and a Pioneer seed dealer the owner was retiring and told me up until maybe mid to late 1980's he would sell a semi load of bagged commercial feed every week >he got out of the Golden Sun business in I would guess ;ate 90's and said he was selling only a few bags of pet food a week .When his father first got into Pioneer seed his average sale was 8 bags ,this was before Pioneer was selling soybeans .No .urban sprawl here so our school system has changed greatly in 1989 or 90 I think it was we still had a K=12 school in town then we consolidated once then again and when my kids graduated in 2015 they were driving 19 miles 1 way to school .Everybody adjusts to these things I guess we really don't have a choice .Once 25 years ago I was at a Tractor Pull and the announcer that traveled with that pulling assoctation was a long time IH dealership owner .A guy pulled a 666 in the 5500lb Supers he pulls out to hook up to the sled and that announcer said I think farming would be better today if they had never made tractors any bigger than this.As far as business in rural Iowa towns thats probably very true .You drive by so many places that have livestock buildings sitting empty and many times the whole building site is gone . When I travel Rural areas and see vacant farm steads with buildings falling apart I always think at 1 time that place had a farmer that took pride in that place and took care of it ,It was his everything now its nothing to anyone but another field that maybe a farmer is traveling 30 miles to farm and comes there maybe as little as 2 or 3 days a year ,I farm too but I don't know if this is really what I would call progress .Keep your Videos coming .The retired agri business type of guy is interesting to blend in with the farmers or maybe lifelong dealership mechanic

Love stories like this. Especially when you interface the transitions with soil & water conservation. Small farms with small equipment-that’s what you see on barber shop calendars.

My grandpa had a Oliver 1955 that split in that same area. It happened in the late 80s. The local dealer told him that it must've had a loader on it at some point. He just brushed up against a tree with one of the dual hubs

“Back when we had cows…” Those words make my heart ache. We, as a whole, don’t farm any more. We don’t ranch any more. We just play pretend, and on the row crop side, we don’t even grow much that is even needed. Over produce a product with very little “real” usefulness that has never been more lacking in nutritional value. As a group, we let huge multi national businesses convince ourselves to blow our brains out, to be weak. On top of that, we defend the very same people to the point of being willing to get bloody knuckles to defend them.
We’re so F’D. So are all the diabetic people shuffling around in a brain fog from the products we produce.

The one thing in common around here with the full time cash croppers; they all used to milk cows. Had an ag teacher that used to joke that the only reason they had cows was to pay for their tractor habit.
