Agree totally Bill. We weren’t always hopeless. We were a good side in the late 80’s , early 90’s and played in a grand final. Played some great footy when Neil Balme coached them in the mid 90’s, 1994 season in particular. The ten years under Neale Daniher was really enjoyable. We were never the best team in the comp, this was the era of interstate domination, especially the Brisbane Lions. They were still a good team playing plenty of finals including the 2000 grand final. You have nailed it in your assessment that this year is the first time we were actually the best team in it all year. Winning the minor premiership showed this. The final series saw a step up I would not even dare to have hoped for. They were magnificent. Hopefully they can rest up re commit and produce a follow up worthy of what they now know they can do.

I didn’t see them win live (I live in Sydney but go to Melbourne occasionally) until I was about 12 or 13 years old. It makes the win so much sweeter knowing that the club got through that tough period.

@J G this clearly isn’t the right video for you then. Go back to watching the unpopular A-League and cry about it
Swimming is more popular and important than soccer anyways. Everyone can swim as it is a life skill, not everyone can play soccer because it isn’t an essential life skill. It is viewed more than soccer at the Olympics and is a beautiful sport to watch.

As great as this video is, the one thing i feel it’s lacking is the emphasis on the 19 and 20 seasons. The set back from prelim finalists to missing the 8 twice and the expectations that seemed to fall away. If a newcomer was to stumble across this video, it comes across like the Dees bounced back straight into contention which they didn’t. Otherwise outstanding video

Yes, that was strangely missing. It would have added to the enormity of this years triumph and Goodwin's fortunate survival to eventually reap the success he sowed this year.

It’s missing our 1997, 2008 and 2009 wooden spoons. They were way more painful than the 2011. That was only one game and the rest of the season wasn’t as bad as many others around that time

To think 20 years of waiting is long. Honestly didn't give a sh!t about me or others like me who have been around for a short period of time. Thought immediately went out to people of the past like Stynes (and others who passed), Neale as well as the fans who gave waited since 64. Heres hoping they can live for as long as they can, but at least now they can die happy and with a lot of satisfaction.
With that said and done, I just want to be hated again, and with the age demographic of this list, I am hopefully of Richmond or Geelong like run. Being pitied for this long takes its toll! xD
