A next generation of satirical writers and voice artists are working with established talent to drive a new wave of ‘public service satire’. Reminds me of the Manic Street Preachers, after the disappearance of Richey Edwards, and of the Kaiser Chiefs. The latter have taken part in a TV advert for Yorkshire TV where they play live in the reception area of a Yorkshire Tea factory whenever a caller is put on hold. Honestly, I'd watch a show like this centered about pop stars being reasonable and level-headed, before I'd watch all that garbage centered around complete assholes being shouty and destructive. You know, the kind which end up being booted out by the music industry, before it finds someone else to do the same shit to all over again.

Most of the music greats who had decades long careers always acted like idiots, took drugs, got arrested, got thrown out of bands but they knew how to please their fans and entertain on stage. I saw Iggy Pop before he was sober and his performance was explosive. Ive seen Tim Armstrong of Rancid dive in to the crowd and beat a bloke he saw harassing a girl and the band kept playing until he returned to the stage. Id rather watch that than Ed Sheeran standing in the middle of the stage with an acoustic guitar playing background music.
I wouldn’t watch a show on it. But somehow it does give me warm fuzzies that the current generation is like this rather than what the 70s-80s pop and rockstars got up to. And even was true in the 90s - that’s sort of the basis of Absolutely Fabulous, after all.

I agree with your comment as I too disagree with the premise of the sketch. I get that Ed Sheeran is not everyone's cup of tea, so he is an easy target; Billy Eilish and Grimes on the other hand are much more adventurous as artists. All, in their own way, deserver respect as artists and for being good role models to the current generation.

@@tobynsaunders As far as im aware, none. Upper is old money, timeless style (classic bentley, not lambo), doesnt feel the need to show money and doesnt have to work. Im british, so that may explain our differences in perspective. Upper is Kennedy and Bush, those that have enjoyed a high social status with wealth and sometimes political power for at least a few generations. Many prefer to fly under the radar

His music (at least to me as a 20 year old) seems like 'alright stuff I'll listen to but not actually seek out' and quite a few of the retired folk I got to know from volunteering at the library (before stuff got weird) seemed to feel the same way. I've yet to meet an actual fan but a fair few people seem to think it's pretty okay.
Essentially everyone who's only access to music is through BBC Radio or television, his demographic is mostly 16 year olds with ukuleles and middle class mothers.

I assume this is sarcasm as Ed Sheeran is one of the most overplayed pop stars of the last few years. He's adored by middle aged white women in the UK. Billie Eilish has been A listed by Radio 1 for a while now, but is easy to avoid if you only listen to granny friendly stations like Heart and Magic. Grimes is an extremely talented pop star and song writer; she's a one woman power house, that while not as commercially successful as other pop artists, is rather popular in an Aphex Twin kinda way. She's far more then Elon Musk's fiance and a lot more interesting then this parody sketch. If you want TV out of the window stuff then that doesn't happen as much due to a plethora of liability claims. Drugs still exist in music industry as does wild sex, just don't look for it in every famous person. Not all college students are coked up STD factories using the same logic.
