  • Compliance in healthcare gets more complex every year, and it is sometimes difficult to stay on top of it all. Unfortunately, some of the penalties for non-compliance can be steep and multifaceted. This episode discusses a CLIA Certificate of Waiver and why an office would need one. It also explains how to complete the application.

    ABOUT MY CHANNEL:
Hi! I’m Jennifer. After working in the medical field, in many different capacities over the last 15 years, I have learned a lot about where medical practice owners go wrong in running their businesses. I created this channel to try and assist medical practice owners from making the same mistakes as their colleagues. I want to see the private practice world of medicine grow and thrive. In my opinion, medicine has become too institutionalized, creating a lot of unnecessary obstacles and demands.

Are APRN's able to get a CLIA waiver? I am in FL and it looks like I need to have a Lab Director if I want to open my own clinic and run tests in house??

If you’re going to be running your own GP or family practice clinic in FL (which I believe is now allowed for APRNs as of earlier this year) without a supervising MD/DO, then you should be able to be the listed Lab Director. The Lab Director is usually the owner provider of the practice. It is definitely worth applying, but I can’t see why you couldn’t if you are not allowed to practice independently. The Lab Director is the provider who will be overseeing the lab processes per CLIA waived regulations. Good luck!

Do you do consulting services. Starting a new lab and have questions?
