    • @dcmkflylo1603
      @dcmkflylo1603 Před 4 lety +10

      Applications and Interpretations focuses more on "real-world", practical mathematics, whereas Analysis and Approaches gets more into the theoretical, abstract, super-nerdy stuff. Therefore, AI at standard and higher levels is more akin to Math Studies and current Math SL, respectively. AA standard and higher levels is comparable to Math HL and further Math HL, respectively.
      So if you are like me when I was in high school, not caring much for the subject, then you should go for Math: Apps. If you're interested in a career that requires some serious mathematics (e.g. engineering or economics), you need to take Math: Analysis.

      @@dcmkflylo1603 Basically if anyone wants to take engineering or physics after IB then Maths AA is the only choice and that's because Physics HL doesn't have calculus at all. Physics HL is disappointing to be honest. So anyone who wants to pursue a degree which involves physics or engineering then they aren't really having a choice. They have to take maths AA

    • @achyuththouta6957
      @achyuththouta6957 Před 3 lety

      @Aviral SAXENA Although Physics HL doesn't have calculus , that doesn't mean it's easy. Most of the exams test students conceptually rather than mathematically which means higher level of logic would fetch you more marks rather than manipulating equations. It should still be easier to get a 7 in this than Maths AA HL for example

  • @tfw2997

    tbh you're comparing a 38 with a 41 score, with only a difference of 3 points. If we were to compare it with someone that tried to maximize points and got a 40 and someone who didnt and got a 30ish maximizing points would come out as more benefitial

      Take math HL, the entire computer science course half of them is about math, the algorithms in computer science courses are more relevant to math calculations. The structure of computers and the fundamentals of how computer work relates to Math, analysis of algorithms is related to math. And more new courses in computer science like data science is 2/3 math and 1/3 computing.

    Im looking to apply to US univirsities and majoring in finance/economics. I take BAM, Econ and ess as a science. i dont think a scienc course is going to be really relevant to anything im looking to do in the future so i chose ess purely for an easy7. So since im focusing on econ and BAM, will the univirsty care that i take ess? 'a soft subject'. Also i know UK univirsities care about maths HL as a requirment for econ, but im simply not very talented at maths although i think i can get good marks with the SL course - will this also discourage US univirsities?

      @iblikecole9167  Před 7 lety +1

      +PlanetGaming I don't think it will discourage universities, also, ess is an sl subject and it you're not taking a soft HL subject I presume. I know some U.K. Universities want a 5 in math HL or a 7 in sl. You really ought to talk to the university, I can't speak for them. Also, if I could recommend, why not take bio sl instead of ess, its way easier and it isn't a soft subject.

      Econ with business are seen as subjects that are too similar. Taking both isnt well seen. Choose economics at hl.
      Nao
      And maybe go for math hl. For top universities its required.

      Yeah, cool man, you mention LSE has a non preferable subject that is Business and Management. Mate. Look at the IB statistic bulletin; 4% get 7 in business and 11% or so got 7 in economics. Your argumentation is flawed from here and beyond. Yes, if you want to study science then do the subjects they ask for, but be cynical about the subject choices and don´t listen to this guy.

      +Bror N Go to I understand your point, but you also need to consider that almost all schools, business management isn't even a prerequisite for their business courses. I took business management, almost everybody does bad because everybody takes it lightly, not because it's a hard subject. Also, I said in the end that you should only pick relevant subjects, you don't only need to pick hard ones. Its not very nice to accuse somebody that their being cynical when you haven't watched the full video. Me taking business added no value to my IB score, I was 2 points away from a 7. So I'm speaking from experience. Having said that, have a nice day :)

      IB like Cole again, your argumentation is flawed. Economics is neither a prerequisite for economics courses, in general that is.
      It's not rude to say that people are cynical with their choices, I was when I chose math studies simply because I will study law, and have no need for math.

      IB like Cole furthermore, your argumentation is again solely based on anecdotal evidence. "People don't take business as seriously as economics" that is a ridiculous statement. Yeah? Take physics if you plan on applying to MIT, and you might actually cover that aspect in the video, but your title says otherwise. It is clickbait, and it's annoying to watch a video with such flawed argumentation.

      +Bror N Hey Man, if you don't agree with my viewpoint, thats fine. You don't have to take my advice. Furthermore, why don't you ask a business IB student how seriously they take the subject compared to other subjects like economics, biology or chemistry. A lot of times IB Business is a "filler" subject that you take because you need to take a subject in that category or you just need another subject. It's almost never a prerequisite for anything you study in university. I don't understand how my video is click bait, when I directly discuss a flawed thinking that many students make when choosing their subjects to maximize their points. By repeating the statement " your argument is flawed " doesn't make my argument flawed.
