- Relive the years before and after the forming of the Chessie System when there was a fantastic variety of paint schemes and trains with no graffiti. Plus, many lineside railroad structures that have been scrapped of the scene.
This documentary is based on movie film shooting by Bob Finan, Tom Luckey and Rod Miller.

Thanks for making and posting this video. I'm from the area with grandparents who worked on the B&O. Wonderful to go back, even if if the visit is just virtual.
The legend will outlast us all...
Chessie System Purrfect transportation! Loved the Chessie livery. CSX seems so dull and uninspired by comparison.
Yeah, but that's what the previous generation said about our 2nd and 3rd generation diesel power (i.e. pre vs. post EMD 40 series and GE U-boats). Nostalgia plays a big part in our tastes as railfans (and model railroaders). It's the only way I ca n see how the current generation of railfans look at and will react to all the GEVOs and other locomotives of today.
@@berkeleygang1834I agree. Being an SP fan in Oregon, I sure do miss all the variety of motive power back in the 70's through when UP took over. I still watch trains, but it's just not the same. All the newer UP power looks the same. I sure enjoy these videos of back in the good ole days.
Another fine video! Charles Smiley…. Delivers!👍🏻❤️🚂👌🏻
The big cat rules
Great video! You do have the East/West stated route reversed a couple times. Cool Mexico Farms footage at 12:00. I grew up about a mile from there.
This video about railroads that formed the CSX system is wonderful but Google has added ads from its ad servers which makes the video quality dip slightly due to the fact you had to either watch the video ads or skip the video ads and/or report the video ads
Most of us just live with the ads. YT couldn't exist without a revenue stream. Or government bucks like NPR and PBS (perish the thought). Or you can pay a YT subscription to remove the ads.
Interesting in the late 80’s there was no graffiti / vandalism
In the 60's and 70's we spent a lot of time watching trains, visiting towers, shops, etc.
Seems that folks had more respect for others property, integrity, and general decency.
You didn't have mobs of thugs looting conex containers and boxcars, scribbling all over cars, etc.
I never liked the CSX name for a railroad. It's stale, sterile...kind of like calling it , "IBM," or something. And, they should have kept the Chessie System paint.
