    "High profile lugs. Almost an inch in length." I LOL'd pretty hard at that.
    I remember looking at all these sleds back in the day and being amazed. We were always wondering how sleds could possibly get any better than they were then. Crazy what 20+ years does.

I also had a '95 XLT 600, racked up 13,500 miles and break the chassis in half, sell it to my brother who transplanted the motor into another polaris XLT chassis that still runs to this day 😂

    Great video! I used to have a '94 MX, unfortunately it was a turd compared to the 500 Indy I had before it. The MX was top heavy, didn't handle as well and the suspension wasn't as good as my Indy. Still, I enjoyed watching the video and the marketing I fell for at the time. i remember stripping off the pink graphics soon after I got it. Really neat to see it in action again in the video.

    • @thatalaskaguy
      @thatalaskaguy Před rokem

      @@GearheadRob319 Indy’s definitely aren’t perfect, that’s one of the reasons I was an early adopter in my area and switched over the Ski-doo. Unfortunately that was a mistake with the MX 470. It wasn’t as fast too speed, wasn’t as powerful, didn’t handle anywhere near as good nor ride better than my older 500 Indy. It probably got better MPG with the rotary valve but who cares, everything else about that MX sucked. The later S-chassis Ski-doos were nice sleds and I owned a few but the MX was one of my biggest mistakes and most regretful purchases. Almost 30 years later and it still bothers me that I bought it instead of another Indy.

    • @GearheadRob319
      @GearheadRob319 Před rokem +1

      @@thatalaskaguy Indy's back in the day probably were the snowmobile to own. They did handle good, and we're a very good looking sled. The F chassy indeed was top heavy, but straight line bumps could bang the bumps almost as good if not better imo. They couldn't steer quite as good though. But I've owned all Brand's in my 40 year's of snowmobiling life. And ski Doo built their snowmobile very durable, I see more mid 90s ski Doo alive and running as opposed to same year Polaris or cat. And of course they still handle kinda hard, Alot are still up and running great. Right now I own a 1994 STX 583. 1994 St 470. 1996 SS 670. And a 1994 Indy trail 488. All run great after alot of work, especially to the Indy. broken heim inner front suspension joint's. Broken lower steering mount, aluminum mount to steel steering shaft. And my 470 handles all out bumps going straight better than that trail. But to each their own. Oh, BTW. I care about gas mileage to, because gas is $4 a gallon where I live!☹️

    • @thatalaskaguy
      @thatalaskaguy Před rokem

      @@GearheadRob319 if photos were as easy to take then as now I’d have pictures of all the holes I drilled in my tunnel trying different suspension and skid frame mounting holes searching for better ride and handling. I spent so much time and money on springs, tuning, testing etc just trying to get the MX to be at the same baseline in ride and handling as my Indy. The only thing I’d done to my old Indy was stiffer IFS springs and raise the front arm up in the tunnel one hole and extend the limiter strap out it maximum distance.
      I never broke anything in the Indy front suspension from bump impacts. The only time I’ve had broken parts is from impact damage or excessive wear.
      My brother bought a ‘95 Formula Z 583 while I had my MX and it was a much improved machine that rode & handled better than my MX. We thought it was a nicer sled than an Indy. But my MX was not that sled. The engine was mounted up too high causing it to feel clumsy & top heavy compared to an Indy. The Formula Z engine was mounted lower and that improved handling.
      In my area, in fact much of South Central Alaska, the vast majority of old sleds you still see running around are Polaris machines. I have several old Indy’s (30 years +\- ) and I still ride them. You don’t see old Ski-doos from that era. I believe that’s mainly due to the popularity of Polaris at that time and the unpopularity of Ski-doo back then.
      In regards to fuel cost, when it comes to performance sleds MPG isn’t a big consideration over performance. I just paid $4.20 gallon yesterday for gas and it was $6.25 this past summer.
