The return of the Old Hickory videos! Both our channels were about the same size back in those days! Great to see this return to the grass roots! Oh, and nice ending Meyer!!
Haha we thought it was long over due for one. Thanks for the view and comment. Meyers head ache is over now. Haha
👍 Nice project. Thank you for sharing.
Thanks for the comment and view.
The glue controversy is my favorite part
The biggest one of the channel.
Greetings from an expat living in Taiwan 🇹🇼. Like your mods. 👍🏻
Thanks for the comment and view.
I wasn't sure that you were legit until I saw the Dremel on the work bench! :-)
I like that you removed the hump, I'm not a fan of that design feature. I have also become fond of a drop point blade when cleaning game, I seem to poke through things less. The finger relief is a nice touch. If you get you a 1 inch Harbor Freight belt sander you can use the top of the belt, where it bends, to make the finger relief indentation very symmetrical easier than a sanding drum on a Dremel. I like that you glued the grips on. That will help keep water and blood out from under them. If you remove the handles on some old knives is pretty rough under the handles. I've thought about hitting the metal that will be under the handles with Rustolium after cleaning them up.
I have several Old Hickory Knives that I picked up at garage/ estate sales. They are in rough shape, but then I think I only paid $1 or $2 for them. A couple have blades that are almost black. I think that I'll try mustard on the places that I grind down. At least one may become a Khephart style knife.
I've heard that the older ones are better 1095 steel vs 1075 on the newer ones. I don't recall seeing markings on the blades either way. Any idea on how to tell, other than just looking for knives that "look old" and hoping for the best?
Thanks for the comment and info. We love converting old hickory’s to different blades. I am a fan of the drop point as well. Im not to concerned with the whole 1095 or 1075 issue. We abuse these knives and use them quite heavily and never notice from the old and new ones. I couldn’t tell you how to tell a difference I think there all good to go. Again thanks for the comment and info you have.
Beautiful machette🥥🍍🌲🔪💯💯😉
Nothing wrong with using Gorilla Glue. I've used it to secure scales on my carving knives and machetes and it's never failed. It's fun modifying Ontario knives. I've done several of them from their Old Hickory line, their big fixed blades and machetes. I like clipping the blade of their 12" machete and turning them into big bowie type blades.
Nice mods and a good video imo.
You can not imagine how many comments we have had against using gorilla glue. I have used gorilla glue on many projects with great results. It is not the prettiest finish but we don’t make show knifes. Thanks for the comment and view.
Excellent job 👌👍
Great job bro
Thank you so much 😀
Awesome job guys, great ideas...👍👍👍😁😁😁😈
Thanks!
Cool ! Gotta go by Harbor Freight and get a 1 x 30 belt sander. Kinda inexpensive and great for modifications and I use em with 80 grit to rough in a lot of bevels. 👍
Been meaning to buy one. Thanks for the info and comment.
Why would you ruin a knife that's been around for ages that has a specific design to work perfectly the way it is ? Just to make it look a certain way ?
Nothing wrong with the original. I have several in original form. And use them often. We like to mix it up and others do as well. Thanks for the comment and view.
@@HawkMeyerOutdoors No problem , I have several of the Old Hickorys and use them a lot too. I'm a amature bladesmith and a collector of knives.
