From Smash Bros, I learned about pretty much everything gaming, steming from my absolute obsession of Pokemon as a kid. My friend got Melee, and told me Pikachu was in it and I was immediately hooked. From there, I added Kirby to my favorites list, got caught up in the whirlwind that was Brawl's release hype, and that's how I was introduced to the wider gaming zeitgeist as a whole.

For me it was sort of the opposite. I was a Kirby fan and was generally aware of Pokemon playing a small bit of it. Then Brawl came into my possession and I was all over that because of the pink ball. Due to Brawl though, I became a much bigger fan of it due to me maining Pokemon Trainer and thinking "hey, I wanna dedicate a part of my brain to this franchise". I can now probably figure out any Pokemon based off it's silohuette which considering there are currently 908, makes me sound a little unhinged.
I remember playing Brawl as a kid. First my brother and I were nervous cuz of the teen rating, but oh boy. Smash got me into so many franchises. Outside of like Mario and Pikachu, I had no idea who the other 90% of characters were. I didn’t even know who Link was, lmao. But Smash has pushed me down the rabbit hole that is gaming and I‘m very greatful that it did

I was never really a Nintendo kid growing up. Smash got me to play Kirby's Superstar and Dragon Quest 11, and I've loved both franchises since, I know DQ is not a Nintendo franchise but still Smash inspired me to play it anyway. Recently played both Star Allies and Forgotten Land and thought both were amazing games. Been about 2 years since I played DQ 11 as I still need to play through the other DQ games first.

Smash also introduced me to Xenoblade, I played Smash 4 and absolutely loved Shulk and I thought the Monado was the coolest thing ever (it still is) . I got the New 3DS port of Xenoblade when it came out because of that and honestly i couldn't get that into it because I just didn't really understand the combat and didn't have the patience to learn at the time. Even so I still got Xenoblade 2 at launch and had the same thing happen there. Well all these years later I finally completed both games in time for Xenoblade 3 and wow are they incredible games. Amazing stories, beautiful worlds, and really fun combat when you actually put in the effort to figure it out lol.
Same with me I played Shulk in ultimate(I still do), though he was cool and wanted to learn more about him.

Some of my closest friends only ended up that way thanks to Pokémon and Smash Bros. We barely spoke at work until one day we were stuck in a room and found to be Pokémon fans, started playing Smash and have been close friends and met others thanks to this.
Maybe the real Smash Bros newcomers were the friends we made along the way after all.
December 7th 2018, I was woken up by my brother telling me that Joker from Persona 5 got added to Smash Ultimate. At the time, I had a vague understanding of Persona and even less of SMT so I didn't really care that he got announced. But in the span of that month, I got curious about the Persona series and started watching more and more videos about it which eventually lead me to getting Persona 5 on PS4 a month later. I made so many friends and got into so many series because of Joker's addition into Smash. It has changed my life for the better. And maybe for the worse. But we'll get there

It's crazy how many games I started only because of Smash Bros. Just out of my head are:
Pikmin, Dragon Quest, Persona 5 (and other games in the SMT franchise because of that as well as BlazBlue because of Cross Tag Battle, which turned into one of my favorite fighting games ), Kingdom Hearts (which I hated at first because the sole thought of Disney and Final Fantasy interacting made me cringe, I love the games now), me at least learning about King of Fighters and SNK as a whole, Bayonetta, and Castlevania (Super Castlevania 4 turned into one of my most favorite games ever)
Same here. I ended up playing the demo for dragon quest 11 because the character was announced for smash. I was like hey what’s that? I ended up buying the game and really enjoyed it.
On the note of SSBU introducing new game genres to people, I just got pretty interested in the shantae series. I had no idea why people wanted her in smash, than I looked up the wiki and now I also want her in smash. I think she would bring a lot to smash, not to mention the music. Some of the best video game music I’ve ever heard. I also was introduced (via smash) to, (inhales)

As someone that's going to be turning 30 in a couple short years, Smash Bros. was able to make me scream to the point that my voice went hoarse for a few days when Sora was announced. While I'm not as adamant about wanting to play the game competitively anymore, I do hope that future Smash titles can give me similar reactions in the future.

My mate blasted my eardrums over call the very minute he was released, so you certainly weren't the only one (i had my own big excitement all the way back when Inkling dropped). Heck, i'm not even a Kingdom Hearts fan and i was excited to see such an iconic character take the final spot, with such an amazing reveal too.
I reacted basically the same way when Steve was released. It truly does feel awesome when a character you love gets in!

When I played Brawl (my first smash game) I only knew Link, Mario, Kirby, and Sonic. I thought all the other characters were originals so I guess Smash bros technically introduced me to all these franchises. It also introduced me to Xenoblade Chronicles when Shulk came out and now it's probably my favorite game series.

I relate to that last part so much. Growing up, the only "real" games I played were Pokemon games and Mario Kart. I knew about Kingdom Hearts, but we never had the right console to play it on, so I couldn't get into it until I became an adult, and seeing Sora become the final DLC fighter in Ultimate made me ecstatic. However, I did play a lot of Super Smash Bros. Melee with my improv group, and that made me realize how extensive Nintendo's library really was. Then I grew up and my best friends had Switches, so we played a lot of Ultimate and I was exposed to even more great characters from great games. I have Smash to thank for my love of Zelda, Metroid, Fire Emblem, Kid Icarus, Xenoblade Chronicles, Castlevania, Final Fantasy, Metal Gear, Street Fighter, and Persona, and I can't wait to check out Bayonetta, Mega Man, Sonic, Dragon Quest, and maybe even Kirby and Star Fox next.

Yeah, Brawl introduced me to a lot of gaming franchises, but I think the biggest one for me was Castlevania. Before Smash, I had heard of it, and had a basic understanding of what it was about, but after Simon and Richter got added, I started looking into the series more, which eventually got me to watch the Netflix show, which got me to start playing the games. Smash was a big chain reaction to get me to the point where I started playing Lament of Innocence.
I was a big Castlevania fan (I still am) long before guest fighters were a thing in Smash, so to say I really lost it when Simon and Richter were included in Ultimate would be a big understatement. Same when Ryu, Terry, and Banjo & Kazooie were included too (and Cloud and Sephiroth too despite never having played Final Fantasy VII).
Snake being in smash bros is what first got me into the metal gear solid franchise. I've been playing a lot of MGS3 recently and it is amazing, this shows the power of smash ultimate

Smash has always been such an important series to me: whether it be introducing me to so many amazing series like zelda, metroid, and earthbound to name a few, to helping me bond with my friends in a multiplayer game that brings everyone together, to competing in tournaments and finding joy through playing it competitively and casually. I remember how hype I was for brawl, smash 4 and ultimate and that excitement of character speculation and learning new details about smash I didn’t know yet will always be a core memory and important aspect of my life and who I’ve become as a person. Thanks for making this video man, it really feels good to reflect on such an important series

Smash has gotten me into Ace Attorney and Devil May Cry... 2 series that have either none or very little represntation in Smash. Phoenix Wright became my most wanted fighter after Steve got added and I got into DMC just before Dante got Mii Costume'd, and was a bit annoyed that he wasn't a fighter, but still really excited that DMC got something. Smash speculation alone is enough to get people into certain games

This part hits so hard for me because if it wasn't for Ultimate newcomer discussion I likely wouldn't have ever heard of the Touhou series. When I saw people mentioning ZUN's stance on fan content and how influential the series is as well as some animations about Reimu in Smash, I got curious enough to jump down the rabbit hole. Two years later I've played all of the official Touhou games as well as some fan games, made Spotify playlists full of Touhou music, improve my drawing skills to draw Touhou characters in my free time, and even bought two plushies of Reimu and Marisa.
Both Touhou and Smash Bros. have changed my life for the better, and even now I'm still longing for a new Smash to come out (because let's face it it has to happen in the next few years) and for Touhou to join the battle. I'm confident in that it will happen at some point due to how utterly massive the franchise's fandom is especially in Japan and the rest of Eastern Asia, and because the licensing rights would be way easier to get than any other popular third party pick (even ZUN himself wants Touhou in Smash). And when it does happen, I'll finally get to experience that feeling of screaming at the top of your lungs for a character reveal which I didn't experience even with my two favorite Ultimate newcomers which were Steve and Sephiroth. Everyone else will either be like "who?" or "no one asked for this!!!11!!1" but I'll be having the time of my life.

No, it doesn't. Awakening came out 2 year before. That was one of the first games that had a 3DS demo. That's how people got acquainted with the Fire Emblem series, not having Sakurai shove it down our throats.
And now because you were inspired to play Xenoblade Chronicles because of Shulk's inclusion in Sm4sh, you hyped up how amazing and phenomenal the franchise was when Xenoblade DE was announced back in 2019, which convinced ME to buy it, and now my life has been dramatically changed for the better, and I am eternally grateful.
Now I own and have played every Xenoblade Game (sans the original & the 3ds port) and my day-to-day life is completely changed, as I hone my writing abilities around Xenoblade, the godlike music, and hope the stupid fake Xenoblade Games of my own creation would hopefully make someone out there check out the series themselves, of which I'm glad to say was an absolute success.
The cycle continues over, and Smash is always at the crux of how it happens.

I started the Smash series with Melee. It introduced me to so many characters and franchises. I would not be the person or gamer I am now if not for Smash. That game changed my life in a way I never could have imagined.
Series such as Starfox, Metroid, and F-Zero I had never heard of. Ever since I started to play Smash, I have made a goal of playing at least 1 game in every series in Smash. (Mostly the games the fighters come from.)
Smash has since become one of my favorite video game series of all time.

I got introduced to Fire Emblem, Persona, and Xenoblade because of Smash. Fire Emblem Three Houses is one of my favorite games, I'm doing a playthrough of Persona 5 Royal, and I've watched a full lets play of Xenoblade Chronicle 1.
Outside of everything you mentioned in this video, There’s are many reasons why I hold Smash Bros to and astoundingly high pedestal. Ultimate really solidified something to me. Video games are art. The fact that there was so much care, love, and effort put into ultimate is such an exhilarating thing to think about and not to mention the impact it left on the lives of many people. I don’t think this could’ve been more properly articulated than October 5 when 3.5 million people stopped whatever they were doing to see that final reveal. I knew as soon as every past newcomer returned that ultimate was going to be a historically significant game. It always picked up more and more steam until that final reveal with a lot of care and ambition. As much as certain games try to replicate that same feeling, they can’t exactly compete. I played Nickelodeon All Star Brawl about a month after it came out in tangent with the Sora showcase and I thought it was really bad. I absolutely hated it and it became One of my least favorite games of all time. The reason I hate that game is because it is lazy and felt really rushed. It felt like a massive spit in the eye to Smash. Anti-nickelodeon all star brawl tangent aside, The reason I am mentioning why I see this game as a work of art is not just because of the amount of care and respect that was put into everything in it. Smash ultimate is what motivated me to take my current career path. I’ve been wanting to get into video game design and animation for quite a while and I’m currently taking courses on art, animation, and game design. I owe it all to smash and Mr. Sakurai! I hope to eventually make a video game/anime series that is just as impactful as smash. In fact, it’s in concept phase right now! I’ve included characters based on my friends, family, peoples OC’s, and even some CZcamsrs! I want to make something with actual heart put into it. This entire franchise along with Pixar, and Sakurai have become some of my biggest aspirations for my career. I know I’m repeating myself, but I owe my current career standing as a college student going for an animation degree to Smash, Pixar, and Mr. Sakurai. Thank you Sakurai!
Speaking of Nickelodeon All Star Brawl, and Smash Bros, before NASB was made, SpongeBob was voted by fans to make it to the roster, however Sakurai made it clear that the character roster has to have video game originated characters, and since SpongeBob SquarePants originated in cartoons, no dice. And speaking of Sakurai, I’ve compared him to SpongeBob’s creator, Steve Hillenburg (miss u Steve 🧽). In fact, like Steve, Sakurai worked on Smash 4, and Ultimate, even when he was on health support, just like how Steve Hillenburg continued working on SpongeBob SquarePants while he had ALS and before he passed away. I also do give NASB this, it did give me some form of inspiration for the comic dub series, Nickelodeon All Star After Hours, and it did evolve a little bit better, especially with the inclusion of voice acting and items, and Hugh Neutron (the game’s Kirby), and I did laugh when it gave Multiversus some massive Karma after the WB Discovery cancelling spree and after Player First Games didn’t mind their fans showboating & bragging to Nickelodeon All Star Brawl. I did play another Smash Bros style game but with the Fire Emblem of NASB, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, called TMNT Smash-Up, it was alright, but the Cruise Ship, and Train stages were pretty awful. I do plan on getting Super Smash Bros Brawl on the Wii someday, but all I can say after this is don’t slander, brag, or showboat, there’s such a thing as redemption, and Thank You Steve Hillenburg, and Thank You Sakurai.
Honestly I love the idea of you making a video about how much you like smash and can talk about honest things without being apart of a series even if this was confusing for a bit to me. I hope I get popular on my socials soon and can talk about this stuff like you!

When I first heard of Smash, it was during the Brawl hype. I was new to CZcams and really the internet in general, so when I was everyone talking about brothers smashing I was so confused. Then I saw an image of a little astronaut with walking carrots behind him and I was intrigued. Olimar was my gateway to Smash and thus I'm eternally loyal to Pikmin because of it. Smash has allowed me to make friendships years ago that still last today. I knew Banjo-Kazooie was cool so when Banjo & Kazooie were added to Ultimate I finally emulated it and has since become one of my favourite games. I've gotten so invested that I'm now even writing a fanfiction about a Subspace 2. Reading about everyone's stories in these comments makes me so fuzzy inside, knowing how this game series has made so many people so happy.

One of my favorite games I found through smash, that being Bayonetta 2. I after finding smash CZcamsrs and their relentless but justified harping on smash 4 Bayonetta I decided to look up her home game and I fell in love with the humor and character's -although it could have less fan service- and I couldn't wait to play Bayonetta 2 and now we're are extremely close to a 3 installment.

Some more effects of “The Smash Effect”
- The Falcon Punch was a move created exclusively for Smash Bros but was later brought into F-Zero lore through the anime.
- Using the names “Young Link” and “Toon Link” to distinguish them as separate characters from normal Link was an idea carried over to Zelda merch and Hyrule Warriors.
- Mr Game & Watch (a character made for Smash) made a prominent appearance in Game & Watch Gallery 4.
- Kid Icarus: Uprising wouldn’t have existed without Pit being in Brawl.
- Wario’s biker outfit became his standard WarioWare costume after Brawl even though prior he had a lot of different outfits in every WarioWare game.
- Diddy Kong’s jetpack and coconut gun may have been in DK64 but their prominence in Brawl had them be a part of his abilities in the Retro Studios DKC games.
- Villager’s Smash appearance has been used multiple times in the marketing for Animal Crossing games.
- Cloud’s appearance in Smash 4 helped Square realize just how popular FF7 still is. According to interviews they thought for sure Nintendo would want Lightning of Noctis over an “old” character like Cloud.
- Joker’s inclusion no doubt lead to a big part of what made people want Atlus to release Persona 5 on Nintendo platforms.
Villager's Smash appearance is basically just the Default look since the first game. Granted the shirt has been changed over the years but it's always been featured at least somewhat in ads.
I actually wonder who Sakurai would have wanted for Smash since Cloud was only chosen by global vote.
I can't speak for everyone but I personally wanted Persona on Switch since I loved how on Vita I could suspend and start playing whenever I wanted and felt it was vital to truly enjoying the experience

Knowing Sakurai, if not Cloud, he probably would have gone with Chocobo, Moogle or a Black Mage since they’re iconic FF characters who appear across the series.
While I’m sure there was a push for multi-plat Persona games before Joker was in Smash, his inclusion pushed the demand into overdrive. Suddenly Persona had more mainstream attention than ever.
With Sonic's inclusion in Brawl can you believe that even in 2008 "Classic Sonic" was an actual term thanks to the Sticker's descriptions?

It moreso had to do with the Legacy Collection's high sales, showing Capcom that Mega Man was still in demand, but I agree that Smash was part of the reason why the series resurged in popularity

Fire Emblem had a 2 episode anime OVA adaptation which, somehow, got picked up by ADV for American localization in 1997, so as obscure as that is that was Marth's introduction to the West (although he was inexplicably renamed Mars), so surely there was SOMEONE out there who thought Marth was a random anime character they threw in there for no reason.
Additional trivia: Marth's voice actor in Melee reprised the role from that same OVA, and has since become the recurring voice actor for the character. Same goes for Mewtwo, whose VA reprised the role from the first movie (although his voice lines were obviously scrubbed of dialogue in the international versions of every Smash game)

The game got 1 million sales before Smash 4 announced at all, it got 1 million in Japan by June 2013 already
Playing Smash got me into a lot of new franchises.
-I played Fire Emblem Awakening because of Brawl and after that played Fates, Valentia and the two Radiant games. As well as Heroes.
-Joker in Smash got me to play Persona 4 and SMT3
-Shulk got me to play Xenoblade X...even though I hated that game
-Cloud in Smash made give FF7 another try because for the longest time I hated that game. I like it now.
-Bought DQ8 and 11 because of Hero, had an itch for a good JRPG series.
If it weren't for Pjiggles and his power of convincing, I also wouldve never tried Xenoblade 1, but thank god i did, cus the game is a beautiful masterpiece. Thank you Pjiggs.

Super Smash Bros. is special, isn't it.
Many fans got into various series because of these games. My first game was Melee, which I got right around the time that Kirby & the Amazing Mirror released. That effectively was my starting point into the Kirby franchise, and now it's one of my favorites.
Brawl is a game that I like a bit more than Melee. It was the first Smash game that I got into a bit more. This also introduced me back into Pokémon after ten years; about a year after playing Brawl, I tried out PokéPark Wii: Pikachu's Adventure, and lo and behold, it kick-started my love for Pokémon once again. I don't own many games in the series, but I like it quite a bit. Sonic is another franchise that Brawl helped me with. After seeing the Blue Blur here as a guest, that inspired me to play Sonic Heroes and more of Sonic Adventure 2. Plus, I dig the Olympic Games and eventually picked up Colors on the Wii.
Smash 4...is my favorite SSB game. Although it didn't get me into any series, it came out after I made Kirby, Pokémon, and Sonic my combined favorite universes alongside Super Mario. There's a nice chunk of content from all four universes here.
Ultimate gets props for its amazing fanservice with the roster. The one universe that it got me introduced to is Banjo-Kazooie. Long story short, I haven't touched the game since renting it years ago. Wouldn't you know it, BK was later ported to the Switch a couple of years after the bear and bird came to Smash. I played the N64 classic, and it was enough to turn me into a Banjo-Kazooie fan! The next game that I wish to try out is Banjo-Pilot on GBA...if I can track it down.
So yeah! Super Smash Bros. is the finest definition of being a special franchise. I cannot make the claim that it changed my life and turned me into a _real_ CZcamsr, but it allowed me -- a diehard Mario nerd -- to expand my horizons and try out new series. It's a wonderful feeling indeed.
I've just beaten Xenoblade 3, and it is such a good game, I do recommend it.

Why can't you just give credit to Nintendo's marketing team that markets these games? Xenoblade Chronicles on Wii didn't flop because Shulk wasn't in Smash Bros. Brawl. It just had a very limited release in GameStop only.
The thing I can’t stand about Smash Bros is how it butchers a few characters and causes their public perception to be completely confused. Roy in Smash 4 and Ultimate is strangely a completely different personality from Binding Blade Roy, however that’s not really a big deal compared to other characters.
Like Zero Suit Samus and her crazy rocket shotgun shoes from 4 that have convinced many people that if Samus lost the armor then she can just take out the space pirates like Bayonetta, when actually, when she loses her suit it becomes a stealth and horror themed segment.
Ganondorf is supposed to be a warlock, a sorcerer who masters Dark Magic, and now thanks to Smash most people know him as a bare knuckle boxer who’s punches look like they smell bad.
I was one of the people who thought Ridley was too big, and I’m not convinced. Whenever I see “Ridley” in smash it never feels like him. If anything he reminds me more of Firebrand from Demon’s Crest.
Captain Falcon is the inverse of this I suppose.

This is a part of the reason I wanted a Trails rep in smash. That series deserves so much more popularity then it currently has.
Shulk's inclusion in Smash may well have pushed me to play Xenoblade, but I ultimately went on to play it because of Chuggaaconroy's LP of it back in the day; I fell in love with that first part, then played the game to completion
I sound wholly unoriginal saying this, but it has become my favorite series of all time. I wasn't really fair to either X or 2 when playing them for the first time, but subsequent runs have made appreciate them so much more... As for 3, I consider it to be my favorite in the entire series, but zi absolutely live them all
Regardless, Shulk's inclusion in Smash made me rediculously happy in Smash, second only to Banjo & Kazooie. I wasn't quite as hyped for the Aegis girls, but they were still a neat addition, and brought an actually-fun stage with them lol
The fact that the two greatest video game characters, Donkey Kong and Wario, are in the same game is so cool

In both Brawl and Smash 4. I really enjoyed playing Olimar. Because I enjoyed playing the little dude I decided to try out Pikmin 3. And I really loved it. In Smash 4 when Robin and Lucina was rumored, requested, and maybe revealed. I decided to try out the Awakening demo. I didn't get the game or Fates but joined in playing Three Houses. There's a lot more I can say about how Smash branched me out. It made me more open to try Metriod, Zelda, and other series. And now because of Smash it has me wanting to play even more games, including ones outside of Smash.
Edit: I have a feeling Multiversus will have the same effect on me. Definitely more so than NASB.
Edit 2: Oh yes! How can I forget Shulk. I have yet to play a Xenoblade Chronicles, but years ago after he was announced, I watch the story for XC and absolutely loved it. It may have been the first game to make me cry and tear up.

Actually, Fire Emblem 3 house was the best selling FE games before the smash reveal. In fact it broke it record around 3 month after the game release.

I actually did get into the fire emblem series from Corrins inclusion, buying fire emblem fates birthright, loving it, and then three houses became my favourite game with coming up to 500 hours

Would love to see a video about the way characters are portrayed in Smash compared to their original games, like how Mario is often portrayed as serious or angry, and how different DK, Diddy and Bowser are thanks to the different voices. And of course, Roy being totally different than he is in his games.

Can i say my first game from the smash series was ultimate so when i unlock Olimar (and alph) i played as them for a bit and i loved Olimar (and alph) so much i bought pikmin 1 2 and 3 also Olimar (and alph) is not my main yoshi is my main but i will play as Olimar (or alph) sometimes after all pikmin is one of my favourite series i even have pikmin 4

I really enjoyed this video, even though I pretty much already knew about everything you talked about (other than your personal stuff), but its so weird to me that someone who lives so far away from me, who was born exactly one day after me also has Xenoblade as his favourite game and also loves Zelda and Smash bros. Its probably not that big of a deal, but it feels so special and makes me like you and your content even more ( even if its just a coincidence)

Joker was what got me into Persona and Inkling reignited my interest in Splatoon. I even played Final Fantasy VII/Remake for the first time because of Sephiroth. I love all those games and I have Smash to thank for it. My first game was Brawl which I got in 2012 and I didn't know how to play but got better when 3DS/Wii U came out and is now one of my favorite franchises ever. It was ultimately how I found out about these Smash CZcamsrs, even you. So I have to thank Sakurai and everyone else from the bottom of my heart for the impact on my life they have. And hope you have a great birthday man :)
