    The working principle of Universal motors is explained in this video with the help of animation. They are capable to run under both the A.C and D.C power sources.

    One advantage of these motors is that they can spin at extremely high speeds, tens of thousands of rpm for some types. AC induction motor speeds are determined by the number of poles and power line frequency. Two and four pole induction motors spin at 3450 and 1725 rpm respectively for 60 Hz power. A vacuum cleaner motor may spin at 10,000 rpm, thus allowing a small fan to produce powerful suction. A wood router may spin at 25,000 rpm.

    • @CasamTheAnimator
      @CasamTheAnimator Před 2 lety +3

      Universal motors still have 4 disadvantages, loud sound, sparking, wearing carbon brushes, and not going over 10,000rpm, thus induction motors can still pass over 10,000rpm, but the most newest motors are inverter motors, which are stronger than universal motors, induction motors consume less electricity, and universal motors consume slightly less electricity, universal motors still have disadvantages, even if they can run on AC or DC, but the most nicest advantage about induction motors is they can last longer than universal motors, inverter motors can over 3450rpm.

    • @CasamTheAnimator
      @CasamTheAnimator Před 2 lety +1

      You can power universal motor with VFD, as long as you get the right voltage, the motor will function properly, however inverter motor will function more effectively than universal motor.

    Great video, very explanative, though I'm wondering why you chose the Left-Hand rule? Traditionally the Right-Hand rule is used, and although they're equivalent (as long as you swap the current/magnetism fingers), it's kind of confusing. I paused the video for several minutes wondering how come my RHR wasn't matching your diagram, till I realized what was going on.

      there will always be a back emf whenever you have any type of changing magnetic field, or if you have a fixed field with conductors passing through it, both of which are cases in this universal motor. If there was no EMF 100% efficiency would be possible in the electrical domain outside of very small coil losses

      if you mean to produce a DC rectified power source through diodes, then if the you move the rotor independently then you should see a voltage through the terminals (AC) off the same fundamentals of the back EMF (induced voltage). the only issue would be polarity but that should be a simple investigation
