Shear force and bending moment diagrams example #1: single point load

  • This engineering statics tutorial goes over an example of a simply supported beam with a single point load. In order to draw the shear force diagram (SFD) and bending moment diagram (BMD), we first need to draw a free body diagram (FBD) of the whole structure to solve for the reactions. Then we take a few virtual cuts in the regions on each side of the point load to be able to draw the SFD and BMD.
