  • Juan Lebron and Alejandro Galan will no longer play together in Premier Padel. Acapulco P1 has been their last tournament... and it has been controversial again. In the Quarterfinals match vs Garrido and Yanguas, Lebron celebrated the win in a quite peculiar way. What do you think about it?

I guess a bit of an unpopular opinion, but it's more interesting to see some sparks flying, rivalries created and settled, some actual expression of real feelings that do happen on the court, instead of polished cliche phrases and actions.
So yeah, even though that wasn't the nicest thing Lobo could've done, but I see it as a part of the sport, competitiveness, emotions

I think Lebron’s behavior has no place in padel. No matter what has happened between him and Yanguas/Garrido you don’t act like that.
I mean, Bela dominated the sport for so many years and always showed good sportsmanship and respected his opponents. That’s the way a top player should act!

let me start by saying that the game of Padel is so beautiful and is growing very fast, but there is limitation, since all the top player are from almost the same country or train in the same country, it affect the competitiveness of the game. At the moment the game is toooo friendly to be a worldwide competitive sport and reach more audience. The people does not want to watch a friendly game between top football teams (at least the audience will be much much lower), otherwise if the same teams are playing for a quarter or semi the rating and the audience will be through the roof because the level of competitiveness will be very high. Pardon me but this game is way off the level of sport competitiveness (don't get me wrong I train and play everyday), players need to have more aggressive approach to the games and to act with emotions because emotions during big matches generates unforgettable sport moments. Of course I am referring to the on court competitiveness and aggressiveness. At the moment, this game has too much smiling going on and too much hand shaking when it is not necessary. Maybe this will happen when more countries start getting better in Padel, but as of now one country and one place to train and become pro is hurting the game.

Far too much hype on this even from you Pablo (even though most of the times your content is awesome!) It's never the end...they could return to being a pair again and dominate as they have over the last 4 or so years. It's not sad, its a new chapter and quite exciting for Padel 🙌💪 As for Lebrons behaviour, first time round in Qatar he took it a bit far, but after hearing Lebron express a very important point... He apologized and they didnt... Just shows that Garrido and co. are a bunch of idiots in my opinion. Well played Lebron...well played 💪💥 Also far too many chirpy comments here and not putting the respect on what both Lenron and Galan did as a pair, that they deserve... Lets not forget how many titles they won in 3-4 years dominating everyone

  • @sebulbathx

I think it's somewhat sad they break up because they were, imo, the best contenders to take the number one place.
But it will still be interesting to see how the new teams perform. I think Chingotto/Galan can be number two. Paquito/Lebron won't do well I think.

  • @ojstrijbis

I am actually sorry that Galan and Lebron broke up. It was easy to dislike Galan and Lebron when they played together, because they were teamed up. Especially Lebron is an obnoxious player. He doesn't act the way he says he does. I wish him all the best with Paquito, but I am not going to cheer for them. I would have preferred Paquito with Sanyo. As for Galan, he is a phenomenal player, second to Coello if you ask me, but despite not having the outbursts that Lebron has, I don't like the way he handled some situations last year. These guys should not forget that they play each other every week, and the world is watching. Well, at least the world of padel.....

    • @stephaneetchayde
      @stephaneetchayde Před 2 měsíci +3

There are several drivers for those regular teammates swaps :
      1. As Sanyo has often said : padel is an individual sport played in a team.
      2. The current top 16 players play, on average, at a much higher level than the other players (the current top 16 includes in my opinion : Tapia, Coello, Galan, Lebron, Paquito, Stupa, Di Nenno, Chingo, Sanyo, Yanguas, Garrido, Momo, Ruiz, Tello, Sanz and Nieto)
      3. The top 10 players are themselves in another league and they dominate the game (to me, the top 10 players are Tapia, Coello, Galan, Lebron, Paquito, Stupa, Di Nenno, Chingo, Sanyo and Yanguas)
      4. To have a chance of winning tournaments or at least reaching the tournaments' last stages, a top 10 player must partner with another top 10 player. We've seen over the last 2 years that a top 10 player partnering with a player outside the top 10 is not able to regularly win tournaments or reach finals and semi-finals. Good examples are Sanyo and Bela : they won tournaments and regularly reached the last stages when they were playing with Tapia, but couldn't win anymore and didn't perform as well once they started playing with lower-ranked players : Sanyo with Momo, Sanyo with his nephew, Bela with Yanguas (when Yanguas didn't have his current level), Bela with Capra.
      5. Each player has a favourite side on the court (drive or backhand) where he performs much better. We've seen this last year with Paquito who tried playing on the drive side when partnering with Tello : he didn't reach the same level as when playing on the backhand side. Same with Momo who couldn't reach the same level playing on the drive side. The only exception I know of is Lebron moving successfully to the drive side.
So, when a top 10 player decides to stop a partnership, whatever the reason, he doesn't have a lot of available options to form a competitive team that will allow him to keep playing, as a team, at the highest level and allow him to win or reach the last stages of tournaments, which is of course their objective for each tournament they play.
Regarding the split of Galan and Lebron :
      - Galan needed a top drive player. Coello and Di Nenno were not available, so he was left with Chingo, Sanyo and Yanguas.
      - Lebron needed a top backhand player. Tapia and Stupa were not available, so he was left with Paquito.
Other options for Lebron could have been Tello and Garrido, but Tello has been underperforming for a while now and Garrido, while having improved dramatically over the last 6 months, is still not at Paquito's level. Results show that Paquito is still one of the 4 best backhand players with Tapia, Galan and Stupa.
From Paquito's perspective, playing with Sanyo or with Lebron doesn't give him the same opportunities. As much as I love Sanyo the player and Sanyo the man, today Lebron is a strongest drive player and playing with Lebron will give Paquito more opportunities to win tournaments. Besides, Paquito/Sanyo is seeded 4, while Paquito/Lebron will be seeded 2, which means they won't meet Tapia/Coello before the final in any given tournament as long as they keep their second seed in the rankings. Paquito and Sanyo have reached the semi-finals of the last 2 tournaments but have been powerless facing Tapia/Coello in those 2 semi-finals. Paquito will turn 35 this year and he might not have more than 3 to 5 years left at the highest level required to win tournaments. So Lebron's call could, in my opinion, not be rejected by Paquito, even if it meant leaving Sanyo with whom he reached 2 semi-finals in the last 2 tournaments, which are outstanding results but not enough especially if Paquito believes he has more chances of reaching finals and winning tournaments with Lebron. Remember point 1 : padel is an individual sport played in a team.
To me, as long as the difference between the top 10 players and the rest of the field will keep being that big, we'll keep on seeing those domino effects when a top 10 player decides to break a partnership.

Yanguas might not be a saint, but asking for a var for foot-fault in a serve situation is correct to do. In this case (correct me if I am wrong) it turned out that Lebron had in fact violated the rules and therefore Yanguas was in the right. Sportsmanship would have been for Lebron to accept the ruling and improve, rather than throw a tantrum like a child.

Thirst and foremost; thank you Pablo, amazing that you cover these events in English!! To the subject: Even Bela displayed unsportsmanlike attitude at his high times. Let’s not try to hate too much on Lebron. Yes it would have been better if he shook hands before the celebration. But to his point, it would have been better if Mike/Javi cleared the air before the tournament. It’s all pure emotions as the results are so important nowadays

  • @njaalsturlasson2351

Lebron clearly isn’t a smart player. Had he just taken the high road he might have saved the team. Instead he takes the low road and screws up the pair, pisses off fans and becomes a villain. Making your opponents lose their footing mentally is part of professional padel, but humiliating your opponent is bullying.

I dont know what happened behind the closed doors of Doha... But delaying the gameike someone said in the spanish comment was also a low blow from Yanguas, if Javi was feeling that bad he should've stopped, and using the heat as a reason well, it was hot for everybody so that cant be an excuse to delay and try to get your opponents off of the game rhythm...
Lebron played greatly and showed that even the heat couldn't do him any harm.
The only bad thing about Lebron is that hes going to play with Paco when there Tello as an excellent option

I feel things are happening behind the scenes with Lebron that we don’t know about. Let’s remember that before we judge him. Amazing player. At face value, his behavior is indeed not acceptable, but let’s not pull the trigger on him yet. Mike/Xavi are great competitors and their future is bright if they keep a cool head and show maturity on court.
