  • Some women undergo lumpectomy and radiation for the management of their breast cancer. Plastic surgeons are sometimes called upon by the breast surgeons addressing the tumor to help create symmetry by operating on the opposite breast. The procedures the plastic surgeon may perform are breast reductions or breast lifts. This approach is part of a relatively new strategy in breast cancer surgery call oncoplastic surgery. Dr. Weinfeld discusses lumpectomy and radiation as a lead into a discussion of oncoplastic surgery.

but what about those of us who have large breasts that are very very fatty so the tissue cannot be rearranged because it won't hold sutures, this cause our bodies to create very large pockets of thick hard scar tissue that hurts with every movement of the upper body. Then the radiation greatly shrinks the breast that had the lumpectomy but we have never wanted smaller breasts so we definitely do not want a breast reduction. I there a surgery that can help us even though the existing skin has lost much of its elasticity ???
