Rose Royce ~ Car Wash 1976 Disco Purrfection Version

- Another big disco hit that radio fully embraced! Motown stalwart Norman Whitfield was not really interested in putting his efforts into the music for "Car Wash" as a play with music. He finally relented after he had a burst of creativity that would not wait, and wrote out the lyrics to "Car Wash" on a Kentucky Fried Chicken wrapper while he was at a basketball game with Gwen Dickey, who was renamed Rose Norwalt to fit with the Rose Royce moniker he had chosen for the band.
Gwen has been a member of a local girl group in Miami called the Jewels (not the Washington DC based group that had a hit in 1964 with the single "Opportunity"). He wanted to break Rose Royce, his latest proteges who he had been using as background vocalists and musicians for his productions for the Temptations and the Undisputed Truth.
Qhe label was not 100% behind that, but Norman persevered and Rose Royce went in the studio. One line, "A movie star or maybe even a Indian Chief" gave Rose no end of ennui and had to record it nearly 60 times so that the word "chief" did not sound like "sheep". The result was a smash hit, #1 on the Hot 100 and #1 R&B and became an iconic disco song. It was my friend Damien's favorite disco song ever......he had exquisite taste! - Hudba
This is REAL music.

ALWAYS AN FOREVER!! 2020
Man this makes my clothes fall off
Yep.
This came over the store speakers the other day and I danced all the way through the Produce Dept.
I've never cared what others thought about my actions when A Kick Ass Tune Plays.
Life's way to short so Shake Your Bootie.
As usual, my kids bolted from embarrassment and hid from my Slick Funky Dancin' moves we did back in the 1970s.
There was a few others doing a Funky head bob and sway as they shopped as well.
I miss watching Soul Train on Saturdays.
So shake your booty..I'm dead 😂
Храни вас бог!))
No re-runs,No do overs.shake like it's your last day on earth...love comment,made me smile.😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊

I worked at a carwash for about 20 years. We had a loudspeaker playing upbeat music all day. This was definitely our #1 most popular song! We worked our asses off but it was always great fun and we made a ton of money. Most people would be stunned to know how much really good carwash employees make. I was bringing home around $700 per week back in the early 80s. I miss those days....
And probably partied 650 of it away !!!
I wish I could have heard those songs😎
❤🎉,🫵🎭👯♀️🌈😶🌫️🧿🦃🥳👯♀️👯♀️👯♀️🔊🙏✌️🌈🫵
An old skool classics that will stand the musical test of time!
Love the opening of this song... I grew up in this era. Carwash was the sounds of our days... Especially all the brass instruments with base and lead guitars. 💯💖🕊🎶🎶🎶
I'm an 80s teenager but I still listen to the 50s,60s,70s and 80s music. No better music.
Forgotten masterpiece movie: Car Wash from 1976. Many big stars, and a true cultural piece of history. Very underrated, still very enjoyable to watch.

For real !!!! It is so vivid as it takes me back and it makes me feel so much happy joy and youthfulness the music very uplifting it make you want to get up and move and dance it is so sad the way things are today because back in the 70s I think we all loved each other and I'm just enjoyed life when it came to music there was no racism cuz we all love to dance and learn from each other 🤗🎶😊👍🤗🎶 the video game generation if they only knew that they can get off that couch or out up that bed and have more outside time being a people person with Harmony!!!!

People don't believe me when I tell them about people from all walks of life, every creed and color dancing together at the clubs in the 70s and 80s. Music was the universal language. We really enjoyed and celebrated each others differences. How did we lose that harmony and togetherness? People gotta try to get it back together!

I didn't realize until recently how lucky I was to have been a kid in the 1970s. The 80s were over-the-top and the 90s were bland and boring, but the 70s were full of attitude, style, and the greatest music ever!
One of my first jobs was at the local car wash and I used to listen to this song all the time back then…☮🔥
