"I don't know. I've been told I'm a pretty good writer, already sold a lot of books." This line stood out to me during the whole film because of the way it was delivered. Abilene seemed pretty shy and just always did was she was told; wasn't sassy like Minnie. Here though, so much confidence spilled out of her it seemed like she surprised herself. She was telling Hilly basically like "I got you, you cannot destroy me now because I got you." Hilly was at Ablieen and Minnie's mercy now. They (and the other maids) spilled the tea all over the nation about Mississippi, their employers, and basically the plight of at least southern North America. Hilly KNEW IT too and couldn't do a damn thing about it. Not a damn thing. Ugh, just well done.

In the book Aibileen reveals she writes two hours or more a night which surprises Skeeter because that's more than she herself writes. She's also an avid reader and Skeeter gets Aibileen books from the library until they allow black people to go in. Aibileen also writes her own stories and gives them to Skeeter to type up. The book really gives Aibileen confidence to come out of her shell and she realises all these lines between white and black people don't exist it's only real for the racist mofos. As soon as Hilly tells her she's going to jail Aibileen finally snaps. She basically thinks "there's no way I'm going to jail" that's what makes her stand up to Hilly and threaten to write the truth about her. Hilly then backs down and says it isn't worth her time to press charges. And Aibileen also takes over Skeeter's Miss Myrna column at the paper on the same pay as Skeeter. The church also tells her that they will financially support her if there's any comeback over the book. I'd really recommend reading the book it's absolutely brilliant

In the book Mrs Walters reaction is funnier. Minny never worked for Hilly Yule May did. Hilly basically decides to put Mrs Walters in a home and goes through the stuff in her house like a vulture, she offers Minny a job but she says no because she didn't want to put Yule May out of a job. Hilly even offers her a raise and Minny says no that's why Hilly told everyone Minny is a thief and why Minny baked her that pie. When she takes it to her Hilly smugly says "I knew I'd get my way in the end" then when the penny drops about what went into the pie Mrs Walters laughs, tells Hilly she deserves it and says "I wouldn't go tattling on Minny now Hilly or you'll be known all over town as the woman who ate two slices of Minny's shit!" It was more than just sticking up for herself. She actually got a racist sociopath to leave her alone by _shaming_ her into backing down. Can you imagine that? Making such a selfish hypocrite actually feel bad about herself? Hilly had convinced herself she was a moral and upstanding person and Abileen shattered her self image by calling her out on how vile and two-faced she was.

When Abilene was talking to Skeeter about Elizabeth and how she doesn't think her own daughter is pretty, Skeeter says that's very true... because her mother doesn't like the way Skeeter LOOKS. So for Abilene to deadpan say that Elizabeth shouldn't have children is Abilene saying Skeeter's mother is wrong... And then saying "write that down" so Skeeter remembers and understands.
    Incredible.

The most underrated line in that movie was "ain't you tired Ms. Hilly" I think that speaks a lot to people like her who are constantly conniving and messing up people's lives for their own sick ways. I often times wonder about the people who try to control the narrative and make people's lives miserable, I can only imagine what they're like inside or in their personal life. May seem all pretty on the outside with everything but on the inside, dead.

There’s no point in stooping to the level of those beneath you who have to try to tear you down. Rise above that. The best revenge is doing great without them and them being stuck in the same place.

It's called spiritual warfare. I've encountered plenty of people like this & usually they bullied defenseless pure hearted people. Meanwhile I'd feel bad just for simply standing up for myself because I didn't want to hurt someone else. & Often times forgave people even when they didn't deserve it.

One grew up with the "Wrong" Father, and one had an Alcoholic For A Father. I was our Grandmother's favorite and although he never said anything I was also My Grandfather's Favorite. I told them, that their bad behavior didn't pay off at all.
