Jack Dee - arguably the best stand up and briefly TV sitcom comedian in the U.K. I went to see him in a room above a pub in south west London back in the mid eighties. He was absolutely brilliant. Jack has honestly grafted his way through the tough gigs over the years to where he deservedly is today.
In his autobiography he says, someone pointed out how funny he is. When he was working in restaurants. Because he would look really serious. He claims he didn’t realise.
What violent contempt? It's simply that he's long winded, pretty boring and not particularly funny. I endured 19 minutes of this, and gave up waiting for something amusing.
@@johncoops6897 jimmy carr used to be good, but now he relies on the shock factor too much, and its usually just a 1 liner like hes reading from a list

I have been refraining from posting comments off late but I feel compelled to acknowledge just how good Jack Dee is. He is a brilliant comedian and to be able to be one, you have to be a genuinely talented person. He is definitely up there with the very best.
There's a reason he was chosen to be compere for the very earliest seasons of the BBC's "Live at the Apollo". The audience is putty in his hands. He's cynic in all of us, but able to laugh at himself.

His initial walk on introduction gave late arrivals, & certain members of the audience time to heckle, but Jack quickly bull whipped them to shut the hell up. Once he told his observational stories, which came thick & fast, hecklers couldn't get a word in. Certain aspects of his gig time stamped the era i.e Marathon chocolate bars became Snickers, Jif cleaner became Cif. / I liked Jack in Josh Widdicombe's sitcom called " Josh " available on Y.T Jack plays Josh's landlord. Beattie Edmondson is the daughter of Ad Edmondson & Jennifer Saunders. Well worth watching.

His style came about because his happy chirpy original false style wasnt working early on, he got dispondent and nearly gave up but honoured his last few gigs and just went out and did them in his normal grumpy old self and he got loads more laughs so he stuck with it.
He’s my very Favourite comedian, I was just a 14 year old pup when he started getting on the telly, back then he I hadn’t heard anyone as funny, I’m from Belfast, we have our own dark humour and Jack just nails everything I find funny about life, I swear if he told me my dog was dead I’d laugh 😂

This was from 2002, it's now 2022 and it's still funny. As I'm from the States, I've only recently heard of him from seeing him on the panel shows. This is the first of his stand-up I've seen. I'll have to see more. Not as funny as Sean Lock, but funnier than Jon Richardson. ;-) Not as funny as Dara O Briain, but funnier than Josh Widdicombe. I will say, watching British panel shows has introduced me to some great comics: Sarah Millican, Dara O Briain, and others.
Forty years (ish) of treading the boards here in the uk and still a personal favourite of mine. Still a fan. Something gratifying about folks thousands of miles away “discovering” him. I didn’t discover Bill Hicks until more than a decade after he’d passed away which was bitter sweet tbh. There’s so much stand up of Jack out there. You’ve probably found it all by now.
It's subjective I suppose, I think Jack is brilliant, the late Sean Lock was fantastic ( RIP Sean, greatly missed ) , I like Jon Richardson as a person but don't find him that funny ( personally ) , although he's good on the panel shows. Dara is very good, look up the VR video gaming sketch, so funny!! Josh Widdecombe ? don't find him funny at all, no offence to anyone that does, saying that, loved his sitcom JOSH , Jack Dee played his landlord in that, Beattie Edmondson is in it as one of Josh's flat mates with the pretty funny welsh comic, Elis James. It is available in various flavours, and is normally to be found in fast food restaurants and filling stations. Hush Puppies are a brand of shoe. I would hazard a guess that the Slush Puppy people thought they'd capitalise on the well-known name of the Hush Puppy brand.
