    Great guide. Especially taking the whole cage out. Need that so I can rearrange the cables and put em in nicely. Can you tell me how to put a cable from behind the radio all the way to the trunk? I'm installing a rear vriew camera so I need that cable to go all the way back.

    Hello, so for power i need to connect only the red wire to the fusebox and the ground from original ground wire of the car right? What about the yellow wire and the blue one? This to shouldnt be connected to anything? Thank you

    Is this worth doing to my 61 plate evo? Can’t help but think how good a nice, high quality screen would look in that gloss black unit. Don’t know if it’s worth the hassle and the sacrifice of the steering wheel controls however...

      Sounds like feedback,check your power source is on a genuine ignition switched fuse and then make sure your earth cable has good contact with the chassis.

    Great Video and will be a great help thanks. One question, I have just ordered the facia with exact same part number and manufacturer but it isn’t in a high gloss finish. The video appears to show the facia in a high gloss finish to match exactly. Can you just confirm it did exactly match? Many thanks

      Yes it matched fine,If I recall this was made by Connects2,they do a couple of shades.

      PJs projects thanks so much for the reply. I actually contacted connect 2 directly today but they say they only do one type in black but it could have been that they did 2 types at the time you did the fitting. Thanks again for replying. If it was your Punto you fitted out, I’ll buy the facia from you if you sell with the original stereo!!!! Cheers

  • @GuilleObe8

    Thanks for the tutorial, it is great! But I have a couple of questions I would like to ask:
    1. Which AWG/gauge is the power cable and why is it necessary? It is not enough if I buy an ISO harness and plug it from the old connector into the new radio?
    2. I know one of the fuses used in the fuse tap/adapter comes from the fuse box but where does the other one come from? I have already bought a new radio and it comes with a 15 amp fuse pluged in the back; can I use that one? If not, which amperage must the new fuse have?
    Sorry for my ignorance but I dont really get to understand that part of the video and it is the first time I change a radio.
    I hope you can answer my doubts, thank you.

    • @PJsprojects
      @PJsprojects  Před 4 lety

      Use 15amp rated power cable with a ten amp fuse as most radios have a ten amp in the back.
      You need the power cable because the a lot of the Fiat range do not have a ignition switched power going to the factory radio, so when you install an aftermarket radio it stays on all the time even when the ignition key is removed.

    Hi Tom, if I am just wanting to add an aux cable to the existing stereo, will I have to take the entire casing out as shown in the video, I can I simply pull out the head unit with the release pins and plug it in that way?

    • @PJsprojects
      @PJsprojects  Před 5 lety

      A lot of the Punto models have a aux input on the front of the radio but if not you might try an adapter that plugs in to the rear such as this - www.ebay.co.uk/itm/adapter-cable-Aux-In-Out-adapter-FIAT-Punto-from-2012-for-scanner-mp3-ipod/401304844152?epid=737122645&hash=item5d6fa1f778:g:LBIAAOSwYIxX3-Oa

    If I want to install an AUX cable to the original radio in the Punto, where should I plug it in ? Do I need to remove the steering controls in the back and plug it in there ?

    • @PJsprojects
      @PJsprojects  Před 5 lety

      On most Punto models you plug the cable in to the top left corner of the original radio with this type of adapter -

  • @Richmaster16
    @Richmaster16 Před 6 lety

    Hello there, thanks for the nice video!
    I've got a few questions:
    I followed your instructions and made it all the way to the point where you put the aftermarket radio (in my case a 1din Pioneer) back into the dashboard.
    But there's no power unfortunately. I've never had this before and I've installed quite a few radio's in the past.
    Your video shows that I need to pull an extra powercable from the fusebox. But why is that exactly? Does it have anything to do with the CANBUS system that's on this car?
    If so, instead of pulling an extra powercable, would it be possible for me to buy a CANBUS cable system which I can use to keep the steeringwheel controls alive and power the radio at the same time? I don't know if you have any experience with this.
    Thanks for the reply :)

    • @PJsprojects
      @PJsprojects  Před 6 lety

      Some of the steering interface units do have a switched power output but the one I list below is not cheap. You really are better of just popping a new power cable in.
      www.ebay.co.uk/itm/FIAT-PUNTO-EVO-FROM-09-Car-Radio-Adapter-Steering-Wheel-Adapter/192237001566?hash=item2cc237db5e:g:W-gAAOSwFqJWs317

      @Richmaster16 Před 6 lety

      Hi there PJ and thanks for your advice.
      I see that the listed interface on Ebay is quite expensive yes. Almost as expensive as the Pioneer radio I have bought new.
      Would the following be another option?
      - Pull a separate powercable from the 12v cigarette lighter to the red cable that comes from the Pioneer radio unit? And will this separate cable require an in-line fuse? I personally do not think so because the cigarette lighter has a fuse of it's own in the fusebox.
      Example of the in-line fuse powercable: sc02.alicdn.com/kf/HTB191REQFXXXXaHXpXXq6xXFXXXt/Waterproof-power-cord-with-in-line-fuse.jpg
      Thank you again for your reply in advance.

    • @PJsprojects
      @PJsprojects  Před 6 lety

      Yes you could do it that way,just be aware that your steering controls for the radio won't work.

    • @Richmaster16
      @Richmaster16 Před 6 lety +1

      Hiya PJ,
      Today I finally had some spare time to finish this project.
      I pulled a separate power cable from the 12v cigarette lighter. It's very easy to release the leather gear thingy from the shiftstick (sorry don't know other word haha, I'm Dutch :-P).
      Then I unplugged the cable from the socket, removed the middle pin and I added the extra powercable. This cable has an extra fuse in between, just to be sure. Then I plugged it back into the cigarette lighter, checked the radio and it worked!
      Thanks for your vid, it really helped me with a lot of steps!
      Cheers!

      The cable from the cars fusebox is available from most car shops/Ebay/Amazon and is 15amp red power cable & the thing that plugs in the fusebox is called a fuse spur (see example below). My parts are sent to my in bulk so are not available to the public from my supplier.

    • @PJsprojects
      @PJsprojects  Před 6 lety

      One of the following-
      1.No power to the red wire.(could be blown fuse)
      2.No power to the yellow wire.(could be blown fuse)
      3.Black earth wire is not earthed very well.
      4.The radio is faulty.

  • @grayanderson6840
    @grayanderson6840 Před 6 lety

    Can you tell me why you piggy backed this to a 5 amp fuse? It should be 10 amp minimum and surely it should have been piggy backed to the cigarette lighter socket fuse and they are not 5 amp.
    My radio has a 15 amp fuse in the back so why only piggy back it to a 5 amp?

    • @PJsprojects
      @PJsprojects  Před 6 lety

      Bit of a misunderstanding with the fuse spur, With these spur adaptors the first fuse just runs the new radio and the second fuse that is removed from the fuse box only has to run it's original circuit and so it makes no odds if it's a 3amp,5amp,30amp or whatever.

      @Charlie Harper i fitted one from Ali express, which was ok. It was arround 150$ but not very responsive and a little bit bugy. In the end it worked (Bluetooth music etc) but CarPlay didn't because it was to slow.
      Definitely recommend buying one with a more expensive chip if u want to use all functionalities .
      Car is sold now.
