Preflight complete
macfan999 incorrect!
macfan999 he likely did a full preflight at some point between pulling the plane out of the hanger to the spot where it was parked when the camera rolled. Unless he has cognitive powers to teleport his backpack magically into the backseat before entering the aircraft, which would really be impressive.
A. Totally awesome comment. I thought the same thing.
B. Obviously, he did a preflight before starting the camera. He knows what he is doing.
I found the humor my friend. I also loved the video. Very nicely done.
the preflight is just looking at the checklist and saying check to each item

"I don't know why I put my keys back there… " You, sir, give me hope that I too can fly.
Lol😂
Perktube1 I didn’t even know there was keys for a plane
@@robertpenman548 jets don't have keys. if you know how to operate a jet (airliner or private jet) you can start it without keys
the problem is getting TO the plane because of airport security
then fighter jets and stuff
i believe the only reason planes like cessnas have keys is because of the magnetos. maybe for a little bit of security too, idk
just don't screw with the dash while taxing like el dopa
Jesus loves you
The communication seems harder to learn than piloting itself
a part of me says that's stupid but another part of me says that's probably true
It’s really not as bad as it seems. All the comms follow a certain formula that’s easy to catch onto. Once you learn the formula and learn the phonetic alphabet it’s easy. For the Formula, most of the time you just say:
[1.] state whoever it is you’re contacting (if it’s your first contact with them) (i.e. *San Marcus Ground or San Marcus Approach*)
[2.] Your tail number / callsign (San Marcus Ground this is *skyhawk 80991*)
[3.] State what your intentions or have ATC tell you what they want you to do (*Skyhawk 80991 taxi via Alpha-Charlie-Juliet hold short and wait runway 13.*)
[4.] Readback what tower has told you and proceed from there.
Edit: Callsign can sometimes be last too.
Just ask the ATC person to slow down.
The thing I find very hard is singing all the correct taxi ways
It can be very intimidating as a student but 99% of controllers are very accommodating. They are there to protect you and to help you so communication with atc will get easier. Just tell them where you are and where you want to go.
It’s crazy that your character in GTA goes through all those procedures before you take off.
@Finn O'Keeffe ok you have to be irish
All the GTA characters are professional plane procedure speed runners
in a deserted airport ,imagine in a place like la guardia airport in newyork
yeah most of the GTA characters can't fly planes, the only ones that can I believe are Niko, Trevor and Luis.
It was a smart thing to have your drivers license on you just incase you got pulled over for speeding up there... :-)

the MOST expensive but rewarding hobby you can have
one of the most truthful things that has ever been said lol
Flying had never been on my radar before, but recently my Uncle passed and left me his Cessna 172 in his will with a letter about conquering ones fears among other things. I have been learning everything about the plane down to the nuts and bolts and am just starting to look into flight-school (fully funded by him as well). I have watched a few of these now and it has me shaking-nervous and kinda terrified-excited...in a good way. Watching these and having a level of familiarity with what I am about to walk into is going to work those nerves out of my system ahead of time and I think it will make the whole experience much smoother.
Thank you for the fantastic videos.
Fly Safe o7
Yes! What an awesome uncle, and what a wonderful gift (specifically the letter about conquering fears).
Cheers to being terrified-excited in a good way!
I'm a paraglider pilot and am very familiar with the nexus of fear and excitement. I'm terrified of it, but yet there is something so magical about literally soaring with the birds.
I wish you the very best as you face your fears and venture into the skies!
Buck Cherry let us know how you are progressing! I started flying 12 years ago, wasn’t able to finish private license, have 33 hrs logged and and going to return to the sky soon. The 172’s are great I have most of my time in a 172 SP.
go get it bud!
If you haven't already. Get a flight simulator and practice practice practice. I fly sims and I would love to have the funds to actually fly a real plane. Good luck =)
Got damnit i want an airplane. Especially a cessna. Even tho their really slow its a good start. Ive been a fan of planes for like 8 years lmao and the only thing i can do is play simulators xd
Wow, that is truly awesome! I hope you develop a love of flying.

The mark of a good teacher is one who makes complex subjects seem easier, builds confidence - no condescension or impatience - and helps you relax while remaining focused. You exhibit all these positive qualities. Your methods also mean I don’t have to search through tons of CZcams channels on aviation to understand something not explained or missing in a video. Great work. Very enjoyable to watch whilst also learning. Love the availability of online teaching to help reduce costs and make aviation more accessible to more aspiring pilots.
"Head is always on a swivel." Yep, and it's giving me motion sickness. LOL

Josh, thanks so much for this video in particular. I've watched it again and again before, during, and after getting my PPL. It's probably the best uncut video on CZcams showing the real experience of flying a 172, including more than 20 minutes of startup, radio, taxi, runup, etc.
I love how flying is just such an easy thing for him now he just does it after class. It’s like how we go to get something to eat or play video games a bit.
I always giggle when I hear a VFR pilot yells “CLEAR!” even though he himself knows not a single soul is a mile near him.
Well, procedure is procedure!
Amen
I've seen YT videos where the pilot yells 'Clear' and at the same time start the propellers. At least this pilot waits for a few seconds in the event someone is in the propeller area.
From the old days of large tail draggers when you really couldn't see if anyone was near the prop.

Easier landings are achieved when you have at least 1 rear passenger as they move the CofG aft thus helping in the flare.

POsitiveRate,gearWelded....
I like how you said "Gear is down" in a fixed gear 172. I guess it is a good habit to have though, for those complex airplanes.
It's not really a good habit. In retractable landing gear he'll say same thing and won't do anything. Better not to use to that.
You’re correct mate it IS better to say it. If your checks are actually checks and not just words then you’ll never miss it 👍. reach for the gear handle even when there isn’t one.

I don't think I'd find this relaxing. There's soo much going on
I find it relaxing because of the full focus required. Real life is inaudible. Plus you can go to some cool places.
not a pilot but i guess when you’re flying it’s easier and more relaxing
@@marcus2364 these comments are kinda old but yeah speaking as a student pilot it does get easy and relaxing especially with consistency
I flew in cessna like this once, but there was almost no talking like in his video. I guess it was like that because it`s just a small airport, only time the pilot was talking with flight control was before flight.
Once you know how to fly and are good at it it doesn’t take much effort because it all comes natural
saying gear up on a fixed gear airplane never heard that before until this video, that's cool
I very much appreciate the way this pilot communicates; very concise/specific, practicing safe habits with clear intentions. Video content = A+
Can you tell me is it a "Pilot" thing that requires you to shout out loud "Yank That Cyclic" when you see a helicopter? I am assuming that you were unable to shout loud enough for the pilot to hear you from that distance, I wonder if Helicopter pilots yell out "Open Your Flaps" when they see you approaching - Obviously you would not be able to hear them either. But if you both knew that you were both secretly shouting out encouragment to each other, it would be quite comforting i suppose, like "Brothers In Arms"
Missis Miggins best.comment.ever
Missis Miggins that would be wholesome
As a Blackhawk crew chief, I can assure you no pilot has ever said “open your flaps”
Only on auto rotate where they have to pull back on the cyclic just before touchdown.

Just checked my log book, 2005 was the last time I sat in a 172 as pic. I even remember asking myself if that was going to be the last day I would ever fly. So far, it was. Money, time, responsibilities, etc makes it difficult to continue any flying at all. Was great climbing in the plane with you for the touch and goes! Brought me back to the good old days of running to the airport after work to get an hour of fun time in. Thanks!

Cars should also have a checklist like airplanes. This is why planes are more safer than cars.
aimar ramadhan technically cars do , it’s in the user manual .
I guess when falling to your death is out of the equation, people get a little lax .
But hey, most pilot won't crash to death once they are qualified. Before they onboard the plane they always check the plane's condition as they are more cautious than they drive cars despite that cars have more crash rate. People are just too lazy to read the manual for cars because they bribe the cops to pass their test easily than pilots.

Planes are safer because they don’t fly with 100 other planes within a few feet of them
