This implies the bishops survived some type of calamity, with their power seeming to come afterwards. Also, the first five lines are almost identical to Shamura’s prophecy, but with an extra line. “He who lays a soul to rest” likely refers to Narinder, who was the Bishop that oversaw Death. The absence of this line from Shamura’s prophecy is likely another aspect of him being sealed away by the time of the game’s events, perhaps another attempt by his siblings to make the world forget he existed.
@@countwladantin They’re non-binary. Any time they’re mentioned in game, it’s always with a “they” or “them”. Even they recite the above mantra, and still use “They of might”.
*Spoiler warning for those who haven’t played* Along the lore we’ve gathered up within the tablets and notes, I believe this may be a previous bearer or follower of the Red Crown, who met a terrible fate where they are now some entity who’s been forgotten for ages until we discover them. I assume they’re a snake or serpent of some kind because of the follower form they give us once all lore is collected. We know how the Red Crown has self awareness and can talk directly to us, a shape shifter who can take form of many things, such as the weapons, or the serpent. Accordingly, serpents are mainly symbolised to be creatures of sin based on Satan taking on its form which is why when we collect sin, it’s shaped like a serpent. Since this is a “sins of the flesh” update, the snake form is clever, especially when we now absolve and collect sin to upgrade the temple, breed offspring, and so on. River Boy, the absolute INSANE amount of atmosphere you surgically inject into this game through your music is something that needs to be studied very closely by scientists. Show anyone this soundtrack, and it'll immediately eliminate any doubts they have about buying this game. Absolutely incredible soundtrack, and I regret not commenting on it back when the game first released. The amount of nights I've spent just working on junk while listening to the soundtrack is insurmountable. Thank you, River Boy. Can't wait to see what other goodies you guys cook up this year.
This is such a beautifully dark song. It's so sinister, so foreboding... As if something powerful lurks beneath, or is stalking malevolently from the shadows. But there's also something forlorn and tragic about the leading instrument, as if it's the voice of a lone member of the cult falling alone into madness. In that sense, I find it takes a profoundly mournful tone. But then as it draws to a close, deep beneath everything else, there's still this dark, malevolent force that is ultimately in control. Guiding towards an inevitable end. idk I've started a whole new playthrough to experience the new content, but I haven't actually encountered the new content yet, or its corresponding music. My interpretation could be way off, when I see the context for which this song was made, but I also love just listening to this music and seeing what I feel about it. River Boy more than any other artist I can think of, seems to have this, deep intuitive understanding of music/sound design as not just a beautiful art form in and of themselves, but also as conveyers of narrative concepts. Ever since I first played Cult of the Lamb, I remember very distinctly upon finishing the opening sequence and loading into the area where you build your cult, starting to work on gathering resources and being just blown away by how amazing the music was, and how excited it made me to continue. How perfect it felt for the game, just, how awesome it felt to listen to. When warping to the dungeons, or finishing levels, or other actions, whenever there were musical stings or SFX reinforcements for whatever I was doing, I would get so excited. It felt like the world the game was creating understood what I was doing, and was rising up to meet me and reward me for it with sound design & music for my various actions. Absolutely adored it, and still do. This game and this music is going to rank chief among my inspirations and influences forevermore. Man, I'm so grateful to have learned about this game and its music. The OST alone has brought me way more than $10 worth of value, it's a shame I can only purchase it once.
This feels like binding of isaac with Mix of cult of the lamb intense spooky mysterious unsettling quite sinster & ominous theme type music With a huge sinster mystery behind the tune, it is hiding in plain sight
Thanks for the INCREDIBLE soundtrack, River Boy! This is, in my opinion, one of the best game soundtracks of all time, and incredibly listenable even for folks who never played the game. You did such amazing work for this game and I'll be listening to this soundtrack for years to come!
He of havoc
He of blight
She of hunger
They of might
He who lays a soul to rest
Five remain of hundreds blessed.

I couldn't have said it better
That opening did NOT have to go that hard
I misread the title and though i would be listening to "Writings of the Fanfic."
Nope, entirely different direction!
As someone who as written fanfic at one point, no this is very accurate
Is this what plays in your head once you start writing?

Me too, it just made sense given the topic of this update! 😭

I read the title as "Writings of the fanfic"
The name caught be off guard-
This feels like a mix of portal 2 and cult of the lamb for some reason
It reminds me of Ghost of Rattman from portal 2.
This has got to be my favorite song out of this soundtrack. It’s cold and sad, which fits the title.

When I knew about the new update, I instantly thought about new music and get thrilled ♥️
absolute cinema
Some one remains like the essence of bishops of the old faith appears?
This song causes depressing thoughts to surface, especially combined with the atmosphere it has with it. None of those thoughts are good...😢
