      I absolutely adore Doom Eternal, especially as a fan of games like Quake and Doom as franchises, and as such I do like Eternal's soundtrack. But, I just don't think it's as strong as 2016's soundtrack or Mick's other work personally.
      Ori and the FF remake nailed it harder for me, and I don't like TLOU2's soundtrack and I don't know much about Hades. Between the 2, I'd indeed have to give it to Ori.

    I’d assume most people who are in here have played through the whole game already, but please-I BEG YOU-if you haven’t played the game yet, then please play the game first before listening through the whole soundtrack. You need to experience this all for the first time in the game itself to get the best out of it. But after you beat this game, yeah, go ahead and play the whole soundtrack on loop like I do lol. I promise you’ll unlock the full majesty of this game’s soundtrack if you play the original game before playing this one though. Words can’t describe how perfect everything is once you realize how Gareth Coker called back to motifs from the original game all throughout this game’s soundtrack.

    • @garamoth97
      @garamoth97 Před 3 lety +2

      I wholeheartedly disagree, to say that you need to play the game to get the most out of the OST is a disservice. It tells a story, so if you don’t/can’t play the game then you can still enjoy that story. The music should never rely on the game to create the best experience, the music should be an experience of its own.

    • @ClarkusMarkus
      @ClarkusMarkus Před 3 lety +3

      @@garamoth97
      The music is definitely an experience on its own, but some of the titles are spoilery. Also, the music feels more powerful when you first experience it during gameplay. The boss themes especially have more of an impact when you're struggling to fight and Ori's theme starts blasting in your ears during the 3rd phase to hype you up.

    • @bidoofus7921
      @bidoofus7921 Před 3 lety +1

      Scurvy McChisel The way I see it, you’ll have a more long lasting and emotional connection to each track in a video game if you have a concrete grasp of the context behind when and why it plays during the game. I’d imagine most people would establish those sorts of strong mental connections best during their initial exposures to each track, and so I feel the best way to first experience the soundtrack is, at least for the most part, naturally alongside the game’s own progression. Can those connections still be formed after listening to the soundtrack and then playing the game? Absolutely. But I feel like there’s some songs in video games we only like as much as we do because we were first exposed to them alongside some specifically-timed event. In this game especially there’s some moments in the soundtrack where simply hearing a particular motif at a certain moment in time-matched with what’s happening in the game-is itself a means of garnering new meaning behind the musical piece. Hopefully what I’m getting at makes sense lol. Honestly ClarkusMarkus summed up what I was getting at pretty well. Just think of some of the songs from video games you love and ask yourself whether someone who hasn’t experienced the game it’s from would see the same level of appeal.

    After all this time listening to the OST and playing both games I must say that it's actually the Silent Woods that moved me the most. The quietness and sadness this place emits is hitting me hard every time I enter them for the first time again or doing the tragic sidequests there. And the soundtrack is really carrying that feeling this dying place is filled with.

  • @ph4nt0n74
    @ph4nt0n74 Před 2 lety +7

    i just finished playing the sequel to ori almost instantly after finishign the first game
    it is now one of my top three favorite games
    i've never cried so hard to a video game
    it's so beautiful in every way. the most beautiful game i've ever played in my entire fucking life
    so many creative creature and npc designs
    the game itself is so fucking gorgeous, the level and creature design is absolutely breathtaking
    the story seems happy and pretty on the outside because of the colorful visuals and creatures, but upon playing a while you learn how truly sad the game actually is
    The world, once full of life and love, is slowly dying because of a rotting virus, killing and corrupting everything in it, leaving one, small spirit to try and restore the life on the planet
    if you're a completionist, i highly recommend the game.
    it's a free roam 2d kind of adventure game where you can just kinda roam around the map while doing side quests if you wanna take a break from the story and bosses
    oh yeah, bosses
    gorgeous, might i add
    there's so many different variations, beautiful while scary at the same time
    oh, i forgot to add how fucking hard the game is
    I mean i played it on normal mode and it was already hard enough, idk if i'm brave enough to try hard mode
    and that's a lot coming from me since i'm a whore for challenging games
    anyways, there's a bunch of side quests and collectibles you can find around the map, and it's really hard if you want to 100% all the locations
    this took me 80% of my gameplay by the way
    though at the endgame you get some tips to make it way easier to 100% the game
    see, you don't have to do the side quests and collectibles if you don't want to, you can just play for the story which is nice for people who enjoy different kind of gameplay
    the game itself puts your combat and platforming skills to the test, giving you very challenging locations on the map and extremely hard boss fights; which i really like
    god please PLEASE check out the concept art: it's a creative and beautiful fantasy heaven, i've spent hours just looking at the art
    my nintendo gallery is now filled with screenshots of the game lmfao
    and the soundtrack.. GOD the soundtrack. one of my favorite ost's by FAR
    it's absolutely beautiful. just captures the aesthetic and feel of the games perfectly
    been listening to it all week
    i'm such a whore for good sound design in a game, and ori is just that
    i found myself just walking around the map cuz i enjoyed the sound of ori's footsteps on the different textures
    (i always wondered why it sounded so nice until i Just now learnt that ori has small lil hooves lol)
    i wont spoil any further if anyone happens to want to play through it :)
    but if you enjoy challenging games with lots of combat and collecting, you wont regret it
    there is a lot of backtracking, but i personally didn't mind at all since i got an excuse to revisit the beautiful areas
    though if you get frustrated easily, i recommend going on easy mode at first at least
    anyways, if you wanna check the games out, they're out on xbox and pc, as well as the nintendo switch which is what i played them on
    the first game is called: ori and the blind forest
    sequel: ori and the will of the wisps
    PLAY THE FIRST GAME FIRST!! you'll be confused if you start with the sequel!
    aanyways, anyone that's here listenign to this right now, congratulations! you're my new favorite person!
    props for us for having great videogame taste.
    have a beautiful night everyone

    What a wonderful journey all two games are, it's truly unbelievable! i only played the first game because of the soundtrack and it was just overhelming as i finally saw the pictures and felt the story to this wonderful music. then i heard there will be a second game and i was so hyped. Then, in the beginning of March 2020, i saw that the ost of the second game was online. the first time i listened to it i thought, this is the same as the first soundtrack but after listening to it the 3rd time i knew, this is something more special. after a half year of just listening to the sountrack i was finally able to play it...
    I NEVER thought that the second game will be better than the first one. no matter if gameplay, story or music! Moon Studios and Gareth Coker created such an atmospheric and emotional masterpiece and everybody should have played both games at least once in a lifetime.
