Prema Narayan was a known face because like Deven Verma, Rajendra Nath etc. were the Hero's friends always. She mostly appeared as the heroine's friend every now & then. Her prominent role was in Amanush, & a filmfare nomination occurred.
We should consider her successful because despite leaving her teaching field, she didn't ruin her life in the film world like many top heroines; Who only drank, slept with men, had affairs, no family, & died a pitiable untimely death.! Success is not only money, but includes it in sufficient measure.!!!! Most of her songs were like item songs, seen & forgotten.
But a great worth-watching classic personal favourite movie "SWARAG-NARAK" had her song " LEENA O LEENA " with VINOD MEHRA, sung by kishore kumar. An unforgettable song with fine lyrical poetry. & yes a crossroad " CHOWK" in linking road, Khar ( west ) is named "prem narayan chowk" but the stone carver made a mistake & spelled it PREMA NARAYAN CHOWK; instead of "PREM". For years we giggled crossing it, every time we went to Ramkrishna mission,saying Premaa Narayan की याद आती है.! Sanyaasi Swamijis in orange robes & "premaa" in our memories, shaking a leg, scantily dressed, showing off her sexy oomphatic body.!!!!💃
Then after 25 years they corrected the mistake because people didnot know who 'prem narayan' was but everybody asked about the "prema narayan" name on the stone & its relation to the actress. We didnot know that she is bengali, we thought she was south indian Tamil. See her in LEENA O LEENA.!!!!🌺🌺🌺🌺
Prema Narayanji's career and lifetime so beautifully presented. Thank you Shweta Jaya for this for introducing her to this generation.
