It was quite good, but they didn't always budget their time well. Now, play the game, darn it.
The actress who plays Ellie's mother is Ashley Johnson. She played Ellie in the games. Voice acted and motion-capture for her.
So many of the big story moments in the show were almost shot for shot the same as the game including the Giraffe scene. After the David section of the game, the giraffe moment is just as beautiful and peaceful as the show, and your reaction was about the same as mine when I first saw it years ago.
The giraffe scene is ABSOLUTELY in the game! Those of us who were already a fan of the franchise were hoping they wouldn’t skimp out on the giraffe scene lmao 😂 So glad they didn’t disappoint!! The whole season was spectacular tbh and I’m just as thrilled as I am shocked haha

When you said "This looks like Ellie" is so cool! They did an AMAZING job with the casting on the show! For you to think(without playing the game or knowing anything about the casting) that Video Game Ellie looks like TV Ellie's Mom is just a testament to the casting.

Well now you understand why the game was such a big hit. It had huge production values, the acting ( the pregnant girl in the beginning played Ellie in the game btw) the graphics, and of course the story all came together to make one of the most memorable games ever.
Pedro and Bella did an amazing job of bringing the game to life, and it is probably the first game that has truly made the leap onto our screens. You really have to give Naughty Dog (the games creators) credit for creating such a powerful story, and providing such a foundation for the screen adaptation. I'm happy to see non gamers getting to enjoy this masterpiece.

In those final moments nothing could stand in Joel's way. Nothing could touch him. He was a man on fire.
Another beautiful reaction Liala. This first season was phenomenal, heartbreaking, and life changing. This show should sweep most of the Emmy awards. Season 2 is going to be another rollercoaster of emotions that alot of people aren't prepared for, except for those who have played the game. ❤
The producers should tell the face of Abby to start hitting the weights hard in preparation for TLOFU 2 😁😁 It's going to be a while before they start shooting so that should give her plenty of time to bulk up.
Great reaction :) The giraffe part was in the game. The game was stressful and worrisome; dealing with infected and people.
The giraffe part was my fav part out of anything because for one moment throughout the entire game, I forgot about everything I was worried about. Forgot about the dangers, infected, people etc.
Not only was the giraffe scene in the game, it was a staff favourite. As such, they put stuffed giraffe toys throughout the game, and they included these toys in the show. As well, there’s a movie theatre before the time skip and you can read that they’re playing “Giraffic Park”, referencing the related scene.
Part 2 is even better.

The giraffe scene is very iconic from the game. Also, the first and last shows are heavily influenced from the game. The reason why The Last of Us won a huge number of video game awards.
I dreamt that this game would be adapted into a show - for soooooo long ever since I first played it. This was way back in 2013 when I bought a PS3 just for this game.
I assumed it was another Uncharted game but with zombies based on the gameplay. Little did we all know, there was a diamond hidden in the game. The story was absolutely amazing. The voice acting, the dialogue, the high emotions. Never thought anyone can adapt it at how intense it, but here we are 😁
One of the nurses in the operating room is played by Laura Bailey who is the voice actor for a central character in Part II

As a whole they kept the most iconic moments of the video game and kept them in this magnificent adaptation tv series. Myself, this episode only, I found was actually better then the video game. I say that because there was a ton of more material here that was never covered in the video game. They missed a few moments but really what we gained outdoes the things we lost.😎👍

Its amazing how much Ellie's mom looks like her considering that is Ashley Johnson, the actress who voiced/motion captured Ellie in the games.

even though I've seen the game, I've never played it so I can't wait for the PC remake to be released soon. Thank God Sony allows all of their older exclusives to be released on PC. That is why having a powerful PC is better than owning any console not to mention the modding scene and trainers.

The giraffe scene is 100% in the game and it is there to illicit the same response as the show. It is a moment that is so sweet and happy it is tearful. The story of the game was intense emotionally. The giraffes where a relief after the harsh winter you play through in the game which included the cult people too.
Liala has also cemented her being on the side of Team Joel from the look of her reactions. Which was also a big aspect of the game many players were divided on what should have happened. Either way Joel choosing to "save" Ellie meant the death of plenty of people. Which not spoil anything but no deed ever goes unpunished.

As for this ending, I actually didn't like Joel when I was playing the game. He's actually much harsher in there than in the show, Pedro Joel is softer up until he recovers in the last episode. So for me, I didn't agree with what he did. I still don't agree after watching the show. I get his actions but he was letting his emotions get the better of him.
Both Joel and Marlene robbed Ellie of her choice, even though we can see that throughout the show, she probably would agree. And that Joel decided for her and then lied to her, he broke her trust and Ellie knows he lied. She gave him an out and he lied. It'll be interesting to see how their relationship will be after this.
Aa for season 2, I was never interested in a sequel to the game so I never played it. I know a few of the big things that happen and I know it's going to be a bumpy ride. Probably won't see the next season but I'll probably check out your and others reactions to it. It was great seeing you react to this show and I can't wait to see more reactions here.
Yup, Tommy would have saved the world if he had taken Ellie to the Fireflies. Joel was unable to see the other "Sarah's" of the world and could only act selfishly.

At least everyone knows there will be a season 2 , us gamers had to wait years just for an announcement . I thought season 1 was better in the game as it spent longer on building Joel and Ellie’s relationship, I think season 2 will be better on tv as it went on a bit too long

Save for the birth scene, Joel's attempted suicide story and a final action-packed push through a clicker- and bloater-infested tunnel en route to the hospital, the episode plays out almost exactly like the game!
There are no other options! Animals can't be used as test subjects because they're unaffected! Neurosurgeons are a rarity in an apocalyptic world! Humanity's existence is poised on a knife's edge. The stakes are too big to risk Ellie saying 'no'. Joel sacrificed the lives of everyone in the hospital and everyone who dies of cordyceps from that day forward!
Ellie had already decided before the hospital that she would see her mission through no matter what the cost and told Joel so. She said, "There's no halfway with this."
Who wouldn't sacrifice themselves to save the world? It is her sole purpose for being. To deny fulfillment of this goal is to deny her destiny.
Frankly, even if she didn't want to, she should be forced to kicking and screaming. It's devil's arithmetic but how would you feel if a loved one could have been spared but for the refusal of the one who carried the cure? What supreme arrogance!
The big surprise at the end of the game is when you are forced to massacre the entire medical team to advance the plot. The game doesn't move along until you slaughter them all.
At that point, you realize that your POV character, Joel, is the villain who dooms the world for purely selfish reasons. Heroes sacrifice. Joel does not.
Ellie knows he is lying to her but she accepts the lie out of love for her surrogate father because the truth of his monstrous, self-serving decision is too horrifying to acknowledge.
The hero was the villain all along.

If a fan of zombies, watch "One Cut of the Dead". One of the most unique zombie themed movies ever made. However, it is one of those movies (like The Sixth Sense) that is so easily spoiled. It's best to go into the movie completely cold, no trailers, no synopsis, no nothing. Just a single word can spoil the movie. If interested, a couple suggestions for the best experience... watch it with the original Japanese dialogue with English subtitles, and second suggestion... don't Google it, again it's so easily spoiled, and can ruin the unique masterful experience this movie has to offer. 100% Rotten Tomatoes score, for a very good reason.

Joel lies to Ellie to protect her. However, he could have told her anything. Just like Marlene should tell Ellie what can happen (through the operation).
Actually it wouldn't make any difference or even matter at all telling her about the outcome of the operation. Ellie would totally give her life for humanity and that is why she fought so much and lost so much to get there.

Just aheads up it sounds like season 2 from what I read said it won't start filming until the end of 2023. So it could come out near the end of 2024 or beginning of 2025.

I will say the decisions and actions made throughout The Last of Us will have consequences in Part II (Season 2, going to be more than one season covering the 2nd game)
While I was watching this i'd ben drinking since 8am and eaten 2 large tacos, bowl of beans, hamburger. Giant ball of gas doing nothing, right when he shot the doctor it popped as a full fart, best I ever felt.

I am sure many will disagree but the way I see it, Joel HAD to lie to Ellie. He felt he had to protect Ellie because if he would have told her the truth then one of 2 things were bound to happen. Either she accepted the lie and forgave Joel making her live with the guilt of withholding the cure to mankind in exchange for her life, or just the opposite, not forgiving Joel for what he did, breaking off their father, daughter relationship, and possibly losing another daughter as Ellie would try to return to Salt Lake City and sacrifice her life for the mere chance that the cure might be successful. Joel couldn't allow that to happen. In his mind he was protecting her from taking that chance. From again losing the one person that meant so much to him. Yes, Joel ultimately sacrificed himself for the sinns he committed, but at least he and Ellie got a chance to live those 4 to 5 years together in relative piece and enjoy a little happiness together. As a father that has lost my first child... I would have done the same!
The first game is a masterpiece in my opinion. Part 2 they could've done a lot better. The HBO episodes were good but too short and not enough clickers... If they do the next season like the game part 2 I'm not going to bother to watch it..
