I like her personality and her interviewing style. She's a major stud.
If it never touches the ground and you have both feet in bound it should be a catch. Simple. Damn NFL gotta make everything complicated.
PercalTM Yup!
PercalTM and you also have to "establish yourself as a runner"
PercalTM so you're saying if it bobbles than you walk out of bounds then catch it's a catch?
That's the standard for catches where I come from, CANADA!!! in the CFL, if the player has possession of the ball in bounds and is on his feet, it's still a catch. All that complicated must-survive-contact-with-the-ground nonsense that the NFL has doesn't exist here. If those catches made by Dez and Calvin Johnson were made in the CFL, they would've counted.
PercalTM so if your hand touches it then its a catch?
Ms. Nolan is a catch.
Ryan Kothrade L
Ryan must be gay okay lol
LOL
More Katie Nolan, even though she's a pats fan
Luis Lara that's what makes her great! Lol
Luis Lara she's a Cowboys fan
Who cares?
The pats have no future
Joshua Zampella elaborate
I just want Katie to do every interview, of every person, for every channel, for eternity. I absolutely love her interview style. She's so sharp, and so funny, and seems to draw out some of the most honest and amazing moments from the people she talks to . I'm so glad she's working with NFL films! She's one of the best in the business!
dude shes not sitting on ur face after this relax
Nate Zeller if I worked with her, I'd follow her everywhere and plant my face on every chair she's about to sit on.
StllBreathnBut_Y yep, not weird at all.
I sometimes wish I was the chair shes sitting on, or the back of them pants!!! Its good to know im not alone.
As an aside, if she interviewed me, I bet shed draw out a sharp, honest and full bodied response as well.
Simp
Great interview style. Let Katie Nolan do em all.
Honestly, Dez caught it. I'm a Giants fan, but seriously.
im an eagles fan, Dez caught it.
Same here Toffee
Did it or did it not touch the ground?
Tony G it was ruled a catch by the nfl
Toffee Crust
It was not a catch. Why are you defending the Cowboys when you're a Giants fan? Can you change the call?
Calvin Johnson's against Bears, Dez Bryant's against packers, and Freeman's against Redskins were all touchdowns. However Golden Tate's and OBJ's were not in my opinion
For me none of them were a catch. So I'm fine with the refs decision except Tates "catch".
No wonder all his calls are jokes. He used to be a comedian
Love how the Golden Tate catch and Odell catch are exactly the same but had different calls
River PlaysClash I honestly think they both should have gone to the defense
River PlaysClash what's crazy to me is that I think tates was less of a catch
obj is not a catch clearly butler knock it lose as 2nd foot hits the ground
That second foot clearly came down about a tenth of a second before the ball was knocked out. That was clearly a catch by OBJ.
ppl say obj is a catch PATRIOTS HATERS CLEARLY!!!
nfl VS Dez Bryant
Sean Ballard ooooo
NFL WON
This video holds the record for most used of "catch" in 15 minutes or less
"catch" stopped sounding like a word to me about 30 seconds in
No, the record is when your family really likes your significant other.
The entire rule makes sense except for the "football move/ long enough to become a runner." That's a judgement call and it seems like sometimes refs make some weird judgements. How was Dez not a runner? He caught the ball, got two feet down, then dove for the endzone. That's a football play. Dez wasn't falling to the ground. He caught the ball, then dove for the endzone.
Dez was clearly going to the ground when his second foot came down. If you go to the ground before completing the catch, the "hold onto the ball when you land" rule applies instead of the "clearly becoming a runner" rule. The "football move" rule is no longer on the books.
How do you even have to become a runner if you can catch the ball in the corner of the end zone with both feet down then fall out of bounds straight away and it counts!
He pushed off his second foot into the dive. That's a football move.
That would have never happened if they didn't take the flag back from the obvious pi
What about the fact that dez tried to reach across the goaline and took additional steps, therefore establishing himself as a runner?
Its very simple, Dez has to control the ball through the process of the catch to the ground, unless the receiver establishes himself as a runner. To establish himself as a runner the reciever must make a "football move". Dez caught the ball on his right side, took 3 steps and then changed the ball from his right to his left and extended it to the goal line. He established himself as a runner and the ground cannot cause a fumble. Done, Dez caught it.
I like this Katie Nolan. Smart, funny and simply a lot of fun to watch. The network needs to give her a raise.
Dez had 3 feet in bounds, his knee hits the ground, THEN his elbow hits the ground!!!! Of course it's a catch!
But it was determined that he was going to the ground in the process of the catch. If that's the determination, then he can have eight tentacles down; the catch won't be a catch unless he survives the ground without the ball coming loose and touching the ground.
BranchingGull 68 I admit it is a catch but he didn't get in . The end zone
#DEZCAUGHTIT
The Perfect Pick jesse caught it
Imagine if the obj catch wasn't a catch
Qwerty Royalz I would kill myself if that wasn't a catch
SparkleGirl i wouldnt i would just go to the game and punch that ref in the face
so if he catches a ball takes 3 steps then it hits the ground and bounces out its incomplete? that's not rational that makes no sense
You're a runner after 3 steps. The catch is complete at that point. (Except, of course, if you lose your balance and go to the ground before landing the third step.)
If you take the three steps while falling or diving to the ground, they don't count.
You have to SECURE possession, it’s not the hard to figure out fam, if you change the law for a catch in relation to security possession then you’re going to have a hell of a lot more incomplete passes being called as fumbles instead
How does he say you need time, 2 feet and control but than they show a clip of him saying that Tate's catch was a catch but yet he had no time, 2 feet or control
The title said "what is an NFL catch" and I laughed when I saw it was almost 12 minutes. Perfectly sums up the catch rule
The way I see the play with Dez is simple. Caught it, fumbled it, then got the ball in possession. In other words, it's a catch.
Not a fumble since the ground forced it out
Phil Meng Can still be a fumble. Imagine a runner in possession going to the ground with the ball in his hands. If the ball touches the ground and comes loose before his body hits the ground, it's a fumble.
Jesper Fredriksson Except in this case Dez hadn't established possession yet. You establish possession by having control of the ball, landing inbounds, *and then* establishing yourself as a runner or holding onto the ball as you go to the ground. If, on a forward pass, the ball comes loose and hits the ground (of course they can be simultaneous) there is no possession from the beginning, and the pass is incomplete. Except in the case of a forward pass (and certain touchback situations and going out of bounds), touching the ground does not make the ball dead.
Troy Van Yes, I totally agree with you. In the situation I described, the ball carrier was in possession of the ball. In that case it's possible for the ground to cause a fumble (even in college where there is no down by contact rule).

What a chill guy
I love Katie Nolan. So relatable.
He doesn't rationalize judgement calls, 10 years of standup has trained him in the art of deflecting questions. His job is to:
1) defend officiating crew mistakes, hind sight is 20/20, you can pull film to defend whatever.
2) And, to never, never, never, never, never admit to mistakes
Dez that was such a great professional play. Kudos man. Don't let the NFL tell you otherwise
1:38 I actually understood everything she said!
How do we get this guy fired?
Eric Breeden Congratulations! He resigned.
Troy Van deadass?
8:57 😂😂why did that sound dirty to me
6:05 damn, Peyton ages so fast!
They should do like quick versión of jury duty
For determining a controversial catch or
"rationalizing judgement calls" I like the way she puts that.
she is feelin him
He had two feet and a knee and then extends the ball. Such a catch.
1:11 42 is the meaning of life the universe and everything
Love how Katie is a Patriots diehard while still doing her job objectively. Shout out to Bert Emmanuel
love me some Katie Nolan on a friday
Need to update this...
#dezcaughtit
Katie funny asl 😂😂😂
Dez Bryant had control before he hit the ground! He moved the ball to his left arm and THEN hit the ground causing a FUMBLE which he then recovered. HE HAD THE BALL.
Go Green Bay packers! From Australia
hello
New Orleans saints
Boooo
@@okkokanaba947 boooo
Buffalooo
You can feel the stand-up days in him.
damn i want Katie!!
Exactly. If you would have said it was a catch when you were 11 years old, then I promise you it was a catch.
lmao i like the do-over
That Dez catch is a catch the refs were on drugs when they made that call
TheJman445 true, two feet down, turns up field and becomes a runner. Lunges for the end zone and his elbow is down before the ball touches the ground.
TheJman445 no it's not
Carter Moneymaker it was a catch
exactly. lions got hosed
My boys shoulda gone to the super bowl that year but zebras were on some delusional drug
6:10 "A pink peanut?"
Jeez, Dez . . . . maybe you'd know about all the recent changes to what is or isn't considered
a catch if you attended more team meetings.
Katie Nolan is a catch!
They keep forgetting that Dez and Calvin Johnson were runners when they lost possession
NO THEY WEREN'T
"You know who didn't let it go? Dez, because it was a catch!"
I'm dead
Can we have more Katie Nolan's in other sports ?
She's really good at imparting a light comic touch to these kinds of subjects. The boys at the NFL had a real asset when she worked for them.
As a cowboys fan, i accept this explanation for the Dez catch
The "NFL Catch Rule" should simply state -
1. A player must secure control of the ball with his hands or arms.
2. The player must immediately find the nearest referee and make eye contact with that referee prior to being tackled or going out of bounds.
3. If eye contact is not established, the catch will be considered incomplete. (Note: The NFL has installed HD cameras and video equipment in all 32 stadiums to assist officials.)
he broke my fucken heart ....but we still have hope ...Go cowboys!!
I suppose my question is why doesn't a play end when the controlled football crosses the plane of the end zone? If crossing the plane is the definition of a TD, why does the catch rule require control to continue after you cross the plane and bounce off the ground?
Katie Nolan a National Treasure.
What year and week was 3:15
At 8:21, Dez isn’t controlling the ball, therefore, it is a catch.
That Calvin Johnson catch was the most blatant catch in the history of catches
Sreezy that and dez
King Manny Dez failed a point of criteria for a catch when he didn’t secure possession and the ball jolted loose and hit the ground
Calvin Johnson can control the ball with a single hand. The refs were looking at both, for some reason.
i wanted to see the greenbay vs Seattle touchback that was called a touchdown
The definition of a runner should just be: a player who gets two feet down with possession of the football. Same as the rule for out of bounds catches. I think this will help a lot with controversial "catches"
That dez catch wouldn't have been a catch in my backyard.
A catch can be instant!
I love how they're all like "who's Burt Emanuel" and then never mention Burt Emanuel again
Katie Nolan is a legend.. straight trolling this clown lol
Just hold on to the ball.
Period
Hi NFL
Katie Nolan is the only reporter that I actually am ok with being biased. lol
if you can see Fed's arm touches the ground before the ball does
what i learned is never let the ball go. ever. take it to the bench, hand it to your mom after the whistle. give it to your equipment manager. but don't ever let it touch the ground even after the whistle has blown.
Dez caught it. Even the defensive back that was covering him said he thought it was a catch.
THAT REF WAS DRUNK THAT GAME DEZ GOT 2 FEET DOWN HAD CONTROL AS HE WAS GOING TO THE GROUND AND THEN WHEN THE BALL HIT THE GROUND HIS KNEE WAS DOWN WTF REFS!!!!!!
He caught it
She is so fucking sarcastic😂😂😂
So I am a firm believer that the Dez situation was incomplete. Yes, he caught it in the air, but when going down, the ball obviously hit the ground and popped up out of his grasp. Part of making a complete reception is having total possession of the ball which Dez only did through the help of the ground... I don't really see how people can say it isn't a catch when there is literal video proof of the ball hitting the ground and coming out of his hands. I'm totally down for someone pointing out to prove me wrong, but I just don't understand how it would be a catch.
It would be a catch followed by a fumble. He had total possession going to the ground, but he ended up putting the ball down in such a way that the ground was able to pop it out. Just because the ball is exposed to possible removal from possession by a significant hit in the right place, does not mean it is not otherwise secure. If it had been slipping out of his grip on the way down, it would be a stronger point in favour of it not being a catch, but it wasn't. Also, how can you say the ground helped him control it when it clearly popped the ball out?
Dez made the mistake of reaching for the touchdown, that's what killed us at the end.
I lost a fantasy football game on that Golden Tate "catch"
That call with Golden Tate III cost the Bears that game and the Bears should've lost the game with the Megatron catch
What about the Fail Mary ?
If anything this just confused me more about what and what isn't a catch
So I actually agree with most of these calls in the video within the NFL rules for a completed pass. I also think that, as defined by the NFL, Dez Bryant did not complete the pass because even though the ball did not touch the ground _after_ coming loose, the reason it was loose was because it touched the ground.
However, the one that really annoys me is the one with the Lions and the overturned interception. I think that was just the wrong call within the NFL rules for a completed pass. The Calvin Johnson one also bothers me a bit, but not as much as the overturned interception.
Geliscon Guild Lions fan much?
Geliscon Guild You are right tho, except for the Dez catch he caught it
No, I'm not a Lions fan. I don't know why you think that, since 1 play resulted in a touchdown for the Lions and the other play did not, and I think both are incorrect. So I still think the Lions both scored and did not score a touchdown.
Anyway, Dez did not complete the pass. The NFL rules are very clear that the ground coming into contact with the ball cannot be the cause of a loss of control, which was indeed the cause of Dez losing control of the ball.
#DezCaughtIt #DezDidntCompleteThePass
Geliscon Guild Playing about the Lions fan, just he and control, dived for a TD and then fumbled and recovered
Why is it that they can run into the end zone and drop the ball straight away, but they can't let go of it after catching it?
it's what ever the fuck they want it to be
Even he thinks the megatron call was bullshit!
DEZ caught it !
2:14 Oh we know you have
When the leagues understanding of a catch defy the laws of physics...you have a problem.
That Dez play was such a catch. 3 steps, and so what, it pops up. The pop up should've been a fumble, because he had become a runner with the 3 steps he had taken, and then Dez recovers the fumble in the end zone. Touchdown, it's not that hard
Btw this is coming from someone who hates the cowboys so...
Dez caught it
Took me a while why she said the helmet catch wasn’t a catch but then I remembered that she’s a patriot fan
Katie pressed him kind of
Dez is Mr.Butterfingers
Dez and Calvin caught it
Explaining judgement calls to people, "even though they sometimes aren't rational." Why I always get a good laugh out of Cowboys fans saying Dez caught it.
Here's a catch, WHATEVER THE REFS WERE PAID TO SAY.
Why didn't she ask him how much time is required? He doesn't know or have an answer. This rule exists only to prevent cheap fumbles.
