Me and my sister were so lucky to be on stage with Solomon Burke, when he had a concert in Oslo. He invited the audience to come and join him. We were a bunch of people up there, and he asked if some of us wanna sing . And i said yes. I sang the chorus from «Rollin on the river» . I never forget it. He is a legend. And Aretha . Two great singers will be missed.

They were the Masters of Blues and Soul music and in the 1960s they were in their prime and at the peak of their careers. Decades later they are still reversed because of a select few of those soul singers have earned that right. To name a few, Sam Cooke, Otis Redding, Sam & Dave, James Brown, Ben E. and BB King...Well, come to think of it, there are quite a few mighty fine soul and gospel singers from the 1960s. >>Percy Sledge, Wilson Pickett, Jackie Wilson, The Platters, Etta James...Way before them was the Master of gospel, Mahalia Jackson.
There are a lot of Masters of soul music that will never be replicated or ever found in the future, that are capable of such meteoric risings, blessed with exceptional talent, voices that could make angels weep, decades of well earned longetivity, revered forever even after their deaths!
In my opinion, The King Solomon Burke, is in a league of his own!! Good God Almighty, that man had the most amazing vocal ranges, energy, velvety voice oozing with so much soul, raw emotion and passions...dayum.

At a 2012 probate court hearing of Burke's will, Burke's manager/companion of 16 years, Jane Margolis Vickers, stated that doctors at Reston Hospital suspected that Burke had a pulmonary embolism and had urged him not to travel. Burke decided to leave the hospital "against medical advice" and proceed to Dulles for his flight to Amsterdam. There was no autopsy after his death, but the general assumption is that Burke died as a result of a pulmonary embolism.
