I bought a '23 model chieftain last year and I could not be happier. I regularly do day rides of 500-600 klm and its so comfortable. I have rides HD's and just couldn't believe how much you have to spend on them to make them as comfortable to ride as the chieftain is, straight out of the box

The rear fox mono-shock with 4 1/2 inches of travel are far superior to the 3 inch travel on the Harley. The better suspension gives the Indian a very smooth ride. The electric windshield on the Indian is an amazing option. The Indian fairing gives better over all wind protection.

I've owned a Springfield since 2016. Love the bike.

You can not go wrong with either the Challenger or the Chieftain.
If i were to patronize Indian, i would have to choose the Challenger.
But, one more time, I will tell you, Alf, there isn't a damn thing wrong with your HD; especially since you enjoy working on it yourself. The newer bikes (and Indian is no exception) are difficult to work on because they require specific tools and tech that you don't have.
At any rate, go test ride the Indian Challenger | Chieftain. My brother loves 'em.
Me, on the other hand, well, Indian makes my butt hurt just thinking about them.

I have 2020 Chieftain Darkhorse love.Comfy as truck load of torque and handles really well great suspension. And looks kick arse.

I bought a 2023 Chieftain Dark horse.Better handling and better suspension than my 2023 Goldwing. A fantastic bike that is nimble despite its weight and powerful enough to put a smile on your face. A truly great motorcycle. I am British but live in the U.S. We only get a 2 year warranty here. If you buy a Chieftain you will not be sorry. It's got magic, especially if you pop some rhinehart slip ons on it.

I’ve taken a bunch of the Indians for test drives. For a stock bike, the suspension was pretty good. The bike is very torquey at low RPM. It does not like to rev out at all but makes for great cruising.

Hope you can get a test ride, the 116 TS engines are good, but if you can take the Challenger for a spin.

I've had my '22 Chieftain Limited for about six months now. I upgraded from the Scout. I love the Chieftain and it is great for cruises in the countryside.

Indian warranty in the U.S. is two years. You have the option to buy an extended warranty up to an additional 5 years on top of the 2 year warranty.

I ride a 2019 Springfield Darkhorse and really love it. Love Harleys as well but just find the low center of gravity so much better on Indians. Challenger is just tits. That's gonna be my new bike one day.

Good bike, but my next bike challenger :)
Chieftain has most of the best air cooled engine from the factory. You cant compare with HD 117, it is beast in sport mode.
5 year warranty is how company is confident about their bikes reliability.
In poland they assemble bikes to reduce import taxes.

The windscreen fairing on the Chieftain has far less turbulence compared to the Batwing of the Street Glide. The way that Indian shaped that fairing is brilliant and it was for functionality not aesthetics; although, it is a good looking unit as well. I personally find that the way Indian designed the rider position on the Chieftain allows for a less cramped feeling as you are slightly more stretched out. Do not get me wrong I grew up on Harleys, but when it comes to an FL series bike the basic design hasn't seen any real advancements since the 60s as far as the ergonomics of the rider cockpit are concerned. The two up comfort is better on the Chieftain as well at least from my Mrs. perspective anyway.
The other thing about Harleys anymore is that it used to be if you rode a Harley you stood out in the crowd now if you ride a Harley you are lost in the crowd. I like the Indian lineup because it is different. I also really like the BMW R18 Transcontinental as a Harley alternative. Now, this is a totally different category of bike but boy do I love me a Triumph Rocket III GT. When it comes to muscle cruiser that thing is top dog all the way. The styling is unique and unlike anything else on the planet. It exudes a unique and standout kind of cool that no other motorcycle on the face of the earth can come close to infringing upon. I have always been the odd man out and I like it that way. I hope that when you get a chance to take a Chieftain for a cruise that you enjoy the experience because I know it checked a lot of boxes for me that a Street Glide and Ultra Classic simply didn't.

heawyweights are fully assembled in USA, its on the ID plate ( Made in USA ) ,mid-sizes + FTR as you said, production from USA, assembly in EU. There is bigger difference between Challenger/Pursuit and Chieftain/Roadmaster than on HD models. Completely different, not only engines but also chassis, on HD chassis are more or less all the same for RG, SG and tourers ( now off course the CVO´s and especially CVO ST are different ) There is no other way than to try them 😉

In the UK, are you allowed to install aftermarket cams in Harleys and use an aftermarket tuner, such as DynoJet?

You don't need that stuff with an Indian, high compression pistons & maxed out HP....WHY? MY 2002 Flstc-i aka Heritage Softail Classic & all stock is at 65hp w/ an 88B engine at 1,495cc or 1.49liter engine...I customized it to look like a Duo-Glide including a slinky exhaust....
BUT ONLY 65 HP...I'm at the point where it's my last one so it is what it is...but Indians needing a mods...BLAH!

Why not buy an Indian or any other brand? Harley is not what it was, it's just another diluted brand nowadays. It's 2PM, time to add yet another variant to the big twin motor lineup in their self-inflicted displacement war.
