Omnia Sol (SATB) - Z. Randall Stroope

  • 15/2134H - This farewell song is a reflection on the constant passage of events and people who have been pillars along life’s way. Omnia Sol (or “everywhere light” [sun]) depicts this interaction and daily investing of ourselves in every soul we encounter. Though we mature and ‘move on,’ part of us is ‘staid’ in the hearts and minds of those we chance to meet.

My choir sang this in my first year of high school, and two weeks before we performed it to the school, a teacher tragically passed away. There wasn't a dry eye in the room.
Now, 5 years later, I'm singing it again in my final performance in my senior year.
Life's full of tough goodbyes, some sudden and tragic, others long-awaited, but there's always the new beginnings right around the corner.

maybe no one will see this comment. if you do though, brace yourself.
we unfortunately had a member of our hs choir die due to suicide end of 2021. he wanted us to sing at his funeral. he was a senior, and this was one of the songs the seniors had already sung their freshman year, so we quickly (re)learned it so that we could perform it.
i may have only learned this song in 5ish days, but i will remember it forever and cry everytime i hear it.

Emily H. Omg you're gonna ball. I did this my sophomore year for competition, and there was never a time I didn't cry while singing it, the song is powerful in itself. However in the right setting (such as a graduation,) it can't be even more powerful.

Years after leaving high school and leaving my choir this song is still one of the ones that was most heavily imprinted on my heart. I have this beautiful memory of it being late at night and me being out with a few of my choir mates during a school trip, we decided to stop in this parking lot for no real reason and we just started singing this song together. Next day we sang this with the whole group and made the judges at the competition we were at break into tears, ending with us winning, but above all else what stuck with me the most, when I think it was sung the most beautifully, was that night before when the air was cool and we just let out our souls for no other reason than because it felt right.
