  • The Kalabari Kingdom can be found within the Ijaw ethnic group in Rivers state. It consists of various towns and villages like Buguma, Abonnema, etc.
    There are different forms of marriage in Kalabari. There are Iya which is considered the highest and most expensive, then the Igwa and Waribiobesime.
    In the Iya marriage, the BIBIFE ceremony (buying the mouth) is done. This ceremony enables the bride eat in her husband’s house.
    The Kalabari people have one of the most colorful cultures in Nigeria. Besides the beautiful bright colored fabrics and accessories, there is so much life from the cultural practices and dance at a Kalabari wedding.

    The kalabari tradition has always been beautiful. One thing that stands out is how peacefully these marriages are conducted it's just amazing (fun fact: the kalabari marriage is organised by only women. No man is allowed not even the groom except when called upon). This just reminded me of my mum, I miss her so much.
    No matter how tough our fathers act they're like jelly on the inside when it comes to their daughters. I He'd miss you dearly.😮

    Questions please take note
    1: How did you get all these women by 7am?
    2: How did you make it so short?
    3: Where you see the strength to do two weddings in one day?
    4: Na your husband buy all those wrapper??? As in it's now yours?

    • @sisi_vaio
      @sisi_vaio  Před rokem +1

      😂😂😂😂😂
      1. The Lord helped me. I got home and met them waiting for me
      2. Once again the Lord helped me. I told myself I was going to leave them at 11:30am to get ready for church
      3. I didn’t think about my physical strength sef. It was my financial strength I was looking at. Planning a wedding is expensive 😩
      4. Yes he did and they are all mine. I am now renting out sef. If you know someone that wants to hire, please contact me

    Congratulations to you & yours! I was wondering how come you don't know much about the culture. Did you grow up in Rivers State? I'm trying to compare 90's and 2000's Port-Harcourt. There were a lot of cultural events in the 90's in Port-Harcourt. But growing up, moving away & all that also PH is much bigger now so things might be different.

    • @sisi_vaio
      @sisi_vaio  Před rokem

      I actually grew up in Port Harcourt but we were not exactly involved in any cultural activity or event.

    The aroma will be calling you. How did you feel when they brought it to your mouth but couldn't eat it? I guess they dont want to ruin your makeup and for time constraint?
