But Paulie is out here making phony claims about Benavidez being mandatory for 3 years when he only took the eliminator within this year and requested the WBC sanction an eliminator fight for him at 175 against Gvozdyk when they were set to rule on his mandatory status this March. Now Benavidez's team is saying they'd reject a Canelo fight in September because the Gvozdyk fight is in June when that's a rando fight in the first place and 3 months is still plenty of time anyway.
Team Benavidez is a straight up clown show almost as big as Paulie for hyping him when Benavidez keeps spending his career padding his 0 for the 1 fight cash out.

Funny how haters like Paulie will jump on any sentence Canelo utters and try to craft an entire hater narrative around it only to have it backfire with Benavidez's own team contradicting it lol. Canelo had never even said he wouldn't fight for a penny less than $150-200M, he called team Benavidez out for lying and invited an offer while throwing out a number because why limit yourself when there's Saudi money. Haters clutched their pearls saying it was outlandish when Benavidez's manager Sampson himself said he has every reason. And for the people saying Canelo needs to fight David in September, Sampson also just said David has no interest in a September fight because he's fighting Gvozdyk in June when that's a random fight that nobody cares about and 3 months would enough time anyway. Sampson said he'd dismiss a September fight even if David suffers no damage. But people are out here pretending like David is an eager fighter who'd do whatever it takes when he's the one who dropped the belt and ducked the fights to be in Canleo's shoes in the first place and has said he wouldn't even do the B side thing of crossing the street.
If haters actually paid attention to Benavidez's career moves, you'd know he's a guy who spent his career padding his 0 while holding out for a cash out. So of course he'd also like for the pot to be as big as possible, but he isn't even doing work on his end to build himself up and make a potential Canelo fight that much bigger even though there's been a large Mexican American audience that he could have tried tapping into all these years. But nope, David would rather hope for Canelo to give him in 1 fight what he refused to do for himself. Haters put themselves in a position to where they tried to make a hero out of the bottomfeeder who's never been in a rush with his career moves. So now Paulie is saying there's no point in even making the fight and said he's been whining and nagging all this time based on technicalities of mandatory lol, when even that narrative is phony.
David only took the actual eliminator within this year and the WBC was set to rule on his status this month but David rushed to sign the Gvozdyk fight and instead was making WBC requests to have that named eliminator (even though Benavidez SR stated they had no intention of fighting the winner of Bivol-Beterbiev) and now they're saying they won't be available in September because of Gvozdyk. Between the two, David was the one who had a three year mandatory Callum Smith that he never fought on top of never handling any other business as champ including ducking unifications and dropping his belt.
It's amazing haters lost the plot so much to where they're trashing the generational fighter that fought more champs than anyone including the guys David ducked out on and is next fighting a hungry young challenger that they themselves call a threat, but their hero is the fighter who stays fighting leftovers padding his 0 until the 1 pay out. And Benavidez is shameless with it, he just said he'd also refuse to fight Morrell because he doesn't think he should have to to fight up and comers like those since he's not a champ like Canelo, when that's because David dropped his belt and ducked unifications in the first place lol, and Canelo already fought the other guys he ducked out on.

Bro what PM is missing is the fact that Benavidez was told by the WBC that he can activate his mandatory position in March to force the fight with Canelo otherwise he’d be stripped…the mfkr signed a contract to fight at 175 in fkn February. Why didn’t he do what the WBC told him to do? And why didn’t Benavidez try unifying at 168 before Canelo made it there, I didn’t see him going after all the belts. Also Jose Benavidez Sr went on a live interview a few weeks ago and stated that Canelos team offered them $5 mill to fight and they accepted, then says they “disappeared” after they accepted. Then in the same interview goes on and says they will be moving up to 175 to fight someone who happens to be managed by EDDIE REYNOSO…how the hell did they “disappear” if they had to talk with Eddie to make this fight?
Why would it take that long for the mandatory to be called for the WBC? He fought endless eliminator, won the interim in May 22, we are now in March 24 and he still hasn't been named... then when they do they try to leave it HIM to "activate"? I agree with Paulie. It's not worth it for the Saudis to waste money on Conelo. Having Benavidez fight the winner of Beterbiev vs Bivol is a much more meaningful fight. Conelo is a paper champion at this point.
Saying that Canelo waited on GGG to get old is a bad take. Their first fight was literally Canelo’s first official fight at middleweight (Chavez Jr was a catchweight). Canelo for sure deserves criticism for not taking the David fight, but the GGG comment was a super reach.

Benavidez got dropped and was lucky to escape with a SD over gatekeeper Gavril and got his ears boxed off and his aggression and workrate tamed by Plant until he started gassing, and Plant isn't even a puncher. Benavidez has never even faced a skilled fighter with power period and looks bothered when he gets tagged flush while getting his momentum stopped. Matter of fact, Munguia is more of the relentless action fighter willing to walk through punches to get his and he's more quick on his feet closing the distance unlike Benavidez who plods forward. Even Paulie had to admit Munguia is a threat.
