thanks for watching, drums are elektron digitakt.
I am also on

You have revealed the functionality that I could not find elsewhere. Thank you.
Cool, a little something else to keep in mind, to get variation and differences from your patterns. Thanks so much for sharing.
Excellent work. Purchased one of these last week and never had so much fun, even with all my other more expensive gear.
Thanks. Definitely good on the fun per dollar scale
Instablaster...
Totally believe it and they are on the money sound wise , better cleaener sound, better knobs I want another one now haha
That first bit with the accents is the typical Acid Crash/Magic Feet hook. So easy after all.
super helpful tutorial and straightforward, thank you !
this is the best video i have seen about triplets! thank you for keeping it simple.
Thanks. Surprised there is other videos. Was not that I know of when I made this one.
Awesome tips on dynamics! Thx
Have just bought one of these and your videos will help me no end, thank you so much
Glad to hear, enjoy your new TD-3!
@ 01:28 "Just make sure you don't get carried away...." Ha! You know me too well! You were saying? ... :D
I"m liking the sounds of those triplets. Thanks again AC!
No freakin way! ThinkerThunker in the house!!!!
This information is priceless to me, thank you for uploading😃👌
Thanks, that was very clear and concise.
Thank you! awesome tutorial
Very good tutorial. Thx a lot!!
Very useful channel, nice one.
Crumbs, I learned something new.
Thank you.
I love a shit ton of reverb😌 it makes everything better
Killer. Thank you!
've ordered one, a yellow one.... Can't wait to make some nnahoyyyyyzzzzzz with it. Many thanks for the tuto!!!!
Gotta love the yellow!
Thanks man. Good to know
THX man. U are very very usefull!
Awesome information!! My second TD3 just got delivered, time to make triplet acid babies
Brilliant!!!!!!
Thank you!! Really helpfull videos 👏🏻👏🏻
Thank you Damian!
Very cool
Nice that youve shown it, they missed out to mention how this triplet button is used in the manual. At least i didnt find it
Yeah it is not in the manual. Not the behringer one anyway. It is in the original roland manual from the 80's
Thank you! great video! Would love more videos like this for the TD-3. Just got one and want to experiment more but the manual is very "bland". Your videos inspire creativity! Liked and Subscribed!
Thanks, having a good response to the td-3 videos so probably will do a couple more. The Roland manual is very thorough but it's a pretty painful read
cool ! thanx !
Nice one
I could be lost for hours in an acid loop back in the days.😊
nice 💓
Super . Cool Diz techno GG
I love it's echo and hollow matrix sound when RAND is stopped.....
muy bueno
It's sort of like a waltz but on "Billy Whizz"! :)
Class
This gives me flashbacks to 4am at a rave 20 yrs ago
The most important bit was that it is not possible to come back to 16th once a pattern is converted to triplets. Thanks! :)
No kidding! My TD almost ended up in the swamp due to the shoddy manual and not being able to figure out how to undo the triplet option......
why does just 16 of the same note sound so good haha i was fucking grooving here
Hi, very happy to find vid like this one, i just want to know : how can you bring this type of sound ? What pedal are you using to have this effect ???
Thanks a lot, (triplets remember rythm like Sarayat 303 by Acid Arab)
Acid is what we need
It just has a light hall reverb. You should be able to see the td-3 settings. I prefer the square wave. Though I think most use the saw wave.
@@avrilcadabra thank you for all, can you tell me what's your machine for this hall reverb? 🙏🏻
I have some nice reverb pedals but I am sure in this it was just the hall reverb built into my behringer qx1202usb mixer.
I understand now ! Sounds good, thank you 👌
Thanks for your tutorials! Just wondering, can you take a pattern out of triplets once it is set?
Cheers, and no you cannot you have to clear it
@@avrilcadabra thanks for replying!
Interesting. But does this mean that you still need to program all 16 beats, and then have the triplets function spread them out? What happens if you program only 12 steps in a 16-step sequence, then hit the triplets function? Does that leave a gap at the end?
Only tried this with a 4 note sequence. It definitely leaves a gap after hitting triplets button
Hey I have a little problem, maybe you can help me: when I go in the pitch mode to add accent I am only able to use SLIDE, UP and DOWN
You should just hold the tap button and press accent while in pitch mode to place an accent on an existing note
HI great video, can i use a pattern from an usb for example from fl studio and play it on the synth without a computer connected?
Hi, sort of, you can use behringers computer app that has a piano roll like fl studio and those can be stored on the TD-3 but you cannot program the internal memory from FL studio, you can certainly sequence it live from FL studio though
@@avrilcadabra Thanks, one more question, Can I connect a midi controller directly to the td3 and play the effects on it without a computer?
can you show me what effects/amp/speaker cabs you are using?
I literally matched your settings clean and it doesn't sound nearly this good lol. what does your effects chain look like?
It was 2 years ago but I am 99% positive it was Elektron digitakt doing the drums and sending clock to the TD-3 with the TD-3 audio plugged into a behringer 1202 mixer (usb and fx model) . I quite like the hall reverb built into that mixer. it's possible the three EQ knobs on the mixer were not at 12 o'clock but that's it. no other fx or cab / amp sims etc, make sure your on square wave of course on the td-3. Analogue synths vary a little so matching the knobs 100% will just get you close. I added the thumbnail maybe a year later so if you are copying the knob positions make sure it's from the video and not the thumbnail.
Bit off topic but how do you get your notes to last that long? mine just cut off when I press them in pitch mode
I have not really paid attention to that. The envelope and decay are turned up in this video is all I can see
Not working when you have it sync in with other gear... or Am I doing something wrong?
It's receiving midi clock from my digitakt in this video as to show the timings with the drums. Do you have it set to midi or sync with a sync cable?
@@avrilcadabra sync with cable. It cuts the sequence to 12 steps but its not stretching it to have this 4/4 rhythm
Did I ever answer this John. Tested it with the force sending clock via usb and the triplet patterns work
Hi, I tried this, now my TD3 is stuck on triplets, even if I delete the pattern and start again, I can only enter 12 notes. How do I go back?
I changed the pattern from 4/4 to triplets then cleared it and started again 20 or 30 times before making this video. Never had an issue. How are you deleting it?
@@avrilcadabra Hi, thanks for the reply. I'm deleting by pressing function, start/stop then clear
I just double checked. Made a 16 step pattern. Converted it to triplets. Held clear and pattern button. Entered 16 notes in pitch mode then it let me enter 16 steps in timing mode. Tried it a few times and was not able to replicate it only going to 12 steps.
When you make a new pattern its meant to default to 16 steps. Sorry I couldn't find an easy answer for you
When I try to do this, I press the black button on the far right but when I try and add an accent the light doesn't come on? What am I doing wrong
Hi Sam I have another video about actually sequencing the td-3 should be in the description of this video. Let me know if that does not solve your problem
@@avrilcadabra Thanks very much for the info and quick reply! Your videos have already taught me a lot in the 3 days I've had my td3
so... you put the accents on the 3rd, 6th, 9th, and 12th note etc on the 4/4 pattern, but they were on the downbeat on your triplet pattern... so they are 2 totally different things right? if you wanted to show the comparison would you not put the accent on the 1st, 4th, 7th, 10th spots on the 4/4 one and then change it to a triplet to make it chop off the last 4 notes and then make it sound like your triplet pattern? not trying to split hairs but... i am splitting hairs :)
Hi. The point was to show the difference between the same pattern. Using two different patterns would be a less efficient way of showing and learning the different in my opinion. That is my main reasoning for doing it this way. Second reason is because it's a nice sounding basic pattern to know. Different viewers will be at different skill levels.
Hi. Which effect do you add?
it would just have basic hall reverb
damn that accent every 3 sounds sick though...
How’d you beatsync this?
Midi clock from a Digitakt
There are no straight 1/8th notes on the TD3, they are 16th notes. So in straight mode there are sixteen 1/16th notes, not sixteen 1/8th notes. To get an 1/8th note you’d hit note+rest or note+tie. There are only eight 1/8th notes in a straight pattern. In triplet mode, it changes to triplet 1/8th notes. So three 1/8th note triplets play in the time four 1/16th straight notes would usually occupy.
The simplest way to think of it is: straight mode gives you 4 equal length notes in every beat. Triplet mode gives you three equal length notes in every beat. Each beat lasts for a quarter note, in both straight and triplet mode.
Not sure why I wrote 1/8th notes, was years ago but that is no excuse, thanks for the reply.
I want to make acid now 😊
Go forth and make Acid!
Does this synth contain drum sounds or does it have a drum machine?
Hi it is a bassline synth. Just monophonic bass and squelchy bass sounds. Drums in this video come from an Elektron Digitakt drum computer
@@avrilcadabra got it thanks
Do you have patters for download?
I don't. Keep it simple with acid I think
@@avrilcadabra well keep doing videos like this, what drum machina are you using and effects
@@tricelbor would just be basic hall reverb on the td3 from the mixer, and the drums are 909 samples from an elektron digitakt.
@@avrilcadabra you dont like drum machines? Like arturia impact or tr8?
Can you show how to turn off tuplets?
You can't, have to delete the pattern. same on the roland 303
I read this one guy saying he could only enter 15 steps in his td3. Is this because he was set to triplets and didn't know it?
Haha I don't know maybe he starts counting at 0
my td-3 doesn't have a happy face on it. 😢
so weird that you can't change back from the triplets-mode
The original roland 303 does this the same If I remember correctly. Can only guess it discards some of the note data when converting to triplets.
TD-3 automatically has 16 steps in each pattern , no need for 16 clicks ;)
You are correct. I go over this in my basic TD-3 sequencing video that predated this video so I can only imagine this wasn't a blank pattern as I usually have a few dry runs before filming. Either way it would have been more efficient to press the clear pattern combo than doing what I did here.
@@avrilcadabra I find it exceptionally stupid that the manual doesn't mention triplet programming.
I came here to turn triplets off 😄 oh welp good tutorial!
Triplets for life now!
4 people don't like triplets
4/4 for life!
just make shure you are not carried away .... LOL .too late!
All Wrong! The “triplets” is for 3/4, not for 4/4!!!
Reference fig.5 page 52 of the Roland 303 manual. For how to do 4/4 3/4 and 5/4 In triplet mode.
