- Following a 12-month battle with acute leukaemia Carl Ikeme was forced to bring an 18-year Wolves career to a premature end and retire from professional football in July 2018.
We invited Carl to spend the day at Compton Park; meeting old friends, touring the updated facilities and taking part in a training session for the first time in nearly five years. - Sport
As a Nigerian, this is very touching for me watching this. I shed a tear 😢literally. Carl Ikeme was our undisputed number one before the unthinkable happened. I remember him playing in the Premier Legaue for Wolves back in 2008. Would have done it again IK 2017 at least. Great to see him strong and well. Thank you Wolverhampton Wanderers. 🐺

I'm a relatively new Wolves supporter and Kemes was sadly before my time. It was really beautiful how much love and respect he was shown by people at every level of the club after so much time. The strength of the wolf really is the Pack. I am so glad that I support this club. Wolves ay we! 💛🐺🖤

I never liked football before I went Molineux when I was about 6 or 7 and saw Carl playing. Whole reason I play in goal, massive inspiration, thanks 😀

This brings back memories of the day he announced his retirement. Nigeria have never been able to replace him. We were kicked out of the nation's cup and failed to qualify for the world cup die to goalkeeping howlers. Thanks Wolves for looking after him.

One of them players who’ll never pay for a drink in Wolverhampton. Stoke away FA cup was more than enough but so many years of service makes him a legend. Club needs to make sure they look after him and his family, he’s earned it🐺
