The barbie backlashes has convinced me that ryan is still stuck in bladerunner's "literally me" era.
I love how he isn't taking any of this remotely seriously.
Seems pretty serious to me
It's definitely a role that's meant to be taken as a bit of a joke. Greta Gerwig and the cast are brilliant though so I think this is gonna be one of those films that people go into thinking it's a joke but it actually ends up being really fun and compelling
If it's perfect with the role
Part of the marketing plan. They probably had meetings about how to portray this character to help the movie.

Little advice from Simu Liu
I mean technically Barbie does 😂😂
It takes a SUPER secure man to be willing to play Ken in a Barbie movie. I applaud him 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
He is so secure in himself that he married old woman🤣. Loser.
The man fundamentally understood the purpose of a Ken Doll: he's nothing more than an accessory.
But he related and he identified with that, which is why he played the role to perfection. 😂❤🎉
All the Kens in the movie are Kenough.
I definitely felt the Kenergy. 😂❤🎉
And you know where I found Ken ? Face down in the mud next to a squished lemon.
And I thought, "Yep. This is me." Lol
I think that the logical implications of that is that everyone that is male is nothing more than an accessory, which is an allegory this movie strongly alluded to.
To be face down in the dirt next to discarded lemon wedges, and think, "This is me. This is my place." Such is the Way of the Ken.
Underrated✨I wholeheartedly agree
😂😂 This comment wins.
The Tao of Ken
I think Toy Story deserves credit for addressing that Ken is an accessory.
😂
This made me laugh harder than it should've
I couldn't find the clip, but basically, Mr Potato head yelled at Ken, "you're not even a real toy. You're just an accessory!!"
😂
I Agree !!!
He then proceeded to play one of the best characters ever. Like he was genuinely amazing.
“He’s an accessory” that really hits deep.
When we were little my older brother used to get jealous of me and my older sister playing barbies; to help him feel included one Christmas my mom bought him a chauffeur Ken doll for our barbies and a new pink limo. His eyes actually lit up. He didn't complain, he happily was our chauffeur/butler. He was just excited that he would be included when we got out the barbies. 😂

My sister is a huge fan of the Barbie dolls and Gosling was right, Ken was barely used. He had no profession whatsoever like Barbie, just a simple boyfriend material unlike Barbie who can do a lot of jobs
@@k-master973Which is?
@@Katya_Lastochka The world is messed up, women are always taken advantage of and underappreciated or pushed into unrealistic expectations as always, and it needs fixed. People need to open their eyes, It’s not people being too sensitive, It’s just people being dicks and ignoring the problem because they’re either men who don’t understand the problem because they don’t have to deal with it, or they’re women who have given up. The back in my day shit needs to end, because we need to make the world better for future generations not hold onto old “ traditions” that cause harm.
He was honestly the perfect person to play Ken and proved all of us doubters wrong with his performance
Ken literally needs his own spin off movie
But that defeats the statement "I am Kenough". 🙏
I think "Barbie" is about Ken more, than the toy itself from the first look of this picture. We definitely need spin off... Kenoff😅
While Ken was pretty awesome, I don't think a spinoff makes sense or would work. His entire plot line is:
Since the Barbies have all decided to go play Forever Young Sex in the City Girlboss and reject motherhood entirely, thereby committing genetic Sue as side, all the Kens with their billions of years of evolutionary programming to want to be useful and appreciated (an essential trait for fatherhood, especially during pregnancy and when kids are small), he has absolutely no purpose anymore.
He just wants to fulfill his purpose, and he can't, because the Barbies rejected theirs.
His story, stuck in the Mouse Utopia as one of the Beautiful Ones, can't exist without the Barbies story. He's kenough exactly how he is, there's just nowhere for that to go.
He probably isn't going to find or invent a purpose outside of that, because the immortal part of Ken and Barbie that is alluded to at the end of the film IS their tradition gender roles.
=>
That's where the individual human dream becomes the immortal dream. That's where Atman is Brahman, the individual soul/consciousness IS the cosmic soul/consciousness.
"What am I made for?" 🎶 plays over consecutive video clips of children. 🤔
The dream will end for the individual, and without playing out their immortal roles, the 3.5 billion years of individual dreams on the evolutionary tree of life leading up to them comes to an end. They are kicked out of the garden for picking the wrong fruit, and will surely die.
That's the story. The end.
(Sure, one in a billion Kens could invent new Physics or something instead, but probably not since a Barbie took his spot in the workforce and education, so really all he has left is prawn and xbox and beach.)
Who's gonna pay to see that movie?
Maybe he can get with Barbies younger cousin Skipper or something and thus no longer be there when she's 46 with a 6 figure salary, a house she bought herself, wine, anti depressants, cats, cellulite and flat feet when she finally decides maybe she wants Ken after all. But she is instead stuck writing long blog articles with titles like: "Where Have All the Good Men Gone?", and "Men are sgip who rob the cradle because they can't handle a real woman their own age and have to manipulate much younger women." Etc etc.
While that movie might find a few laughs, it's already being done to death on mens forums and channels all over the internet for free. It doesn't warrant two hours of Ryan Gosling singing about it and that would probably out stay it's welcome.
Nah, it was exactly Kenough exactly for what it was.
@@TheJeremyKentBGrossYou need help. I hope you don't live in the U.S. with that attitude. Who are you to tell everyone how to live their lives?
@@TheJeremyKentBGrossGod forbid you be useful by changing diapers instead of hoarding all the wealth and power. GTFOH.
"For his story must be told" is one of the best movie captions ever.
In Life in the Dream House, Ken tries to get a job but in the end he literally says being Barbie's boyfriend is his job.😂😂 Ken is a sugar baby and proud of it.
Edit: I have never seen this much hate against women in the replies. It's ironic that people want to be excepted as they are but are not willing to except others. People want to be respected, treated fairly, seen. Then they turn around and refuse to see others that are different than them in any way, to treat them fairly, let alone respect them. Men have done a lot in history, but so have women. There are many reasons why you don't learn about the women in history is because history is written by men. In most "civilized" or "advanced" cultures men only see women as things, as decoration, as baby makers. There are several areas of anthropology where seemingly mysterious practices are solved when looked at from a woman's perspective. In theater there are many stage hands that makes the show run smoothly, who don't take a bow when the curtain falls. Just because you don't see them doesn't mean they weren't there. So go ahead and take comfort, that on the Internet no one can see you and you can be as toxic and hateful as you want.
He invents stuff tho. It's my fave series. Life in the DreamHouse even parents can enjoy it
HAHAHAHAHA
With how many jobs she has I bet it IS tiring to be her sugar baby so he deserves that bag💀🤣

When I was a kid, my sister and I loved our Ken dolls! We had so many Barbie’s but we wanted the stories we made up to include brothers and fathers like our own stories. We used other dolls to make the brothers and whenever we got a new Ken doll he was renamed and thrusted into our stories along with all the other Barbie’s. To me, Ken has never been an accessory and I’m glad so many more people get to see that now.

Really.. than the Oscar means nothing
@@southernbarflynot necessarily. Character actors, of which he is in this movie when he’s normally a lead, can steal the whole movie. I believe he did that with Barbie. He was subtle and brilliant. Compare this situation to that of Silence of the Lambs. Do you remember the actress who played the lead role more readily, or do you first think of Sir Anthony Hopkins who played Hannibal Lecter, a character who had a mere 25-ish minutes of screen time? Hopkins won an Oscar for that tiny role. It can happen. Art is subjective.
