Same problem came up about a year ago and drives me crazy periodically including today. I’m approaching 180k miles. Thanks for the video . Turning car off and on does seem to be the way around the problem
Yeah, I can't find a rhyme or reason for when it happens. Luckily for me it's still very sporadic averaged out throughout the year. It may be happens 10 times
@nappyjim You might be getting bubbling under the laminations of the screen. My '19 outback's screen is dead because it wasn't laminated correctly (got visible bubbles on passenger side). Was bad enough that '15-'18 got recalls awhile ago, '19 somehow missed that boat. Wanted to thank you for documenting your work.
I have the identical vehicle and the radio is junk. For the past year or so sound only comes from one speaker. The dealer theorized the speakers are bad, but I think the problem is from the radio output, as it would be very unlikely that 5 of 6 speakers "went out". If I keep the car (not especially impressed with Subaru) I'll replace it with an aftermarket system.
Nappyjim, have you fixed this issue? Just an idea for your next video (assuming you did the latest software update which was TSB 15-205-16R, and/or the old method of pulling out the fuse to reset but still having the same issue) - I was able to fix our old 2005 Porsche Boxster radio display (not a touchscreen) by thoroughly cleaning the connection / connector between the display and the main board (was using so called "zebra" connector). The symptoms were similar (randomly works / not work, works again if the car is restarted then stops again, the radio / CD etc works just the display would go blank / gibberish / stuck) Not sure how our OB's display is connected to the main board but I thought you can take the radio out, disassemble and clean the connection (again, not sure this is even possible with our OB). Just a thought 🙂

Can you replace the digitizer to fix it? You can get 7 inch digitizers for under 10 dollars.
How do you update the car?

ITs the capacitive touch screen or u need software update

Thanks for the tips. I don't think I've had any software updates. I do all my own work so haven't had the car at a dealership in years.
Are you going to keep your 2015 outback forever? I also own one and I think the world of it.
Trying to. Should hit 400k by summer of this year.
My subaru touch screen failed at only 5K miles. No replacement available. Subaru sucks.
@subaru
HU probably needs an software update
It’s likely the digitizer
I have the same problem but does your screen like start doing random shit to
Not often but it had started seeking through radio stations and I couldent stop it
No solution? What is the point of this video?
Just to annoy people like you. :)
I'd never own another Subaru. Nothing but problems on a car with less the 36k. Yes, 36k.
That sucks. Funny how same company can produce two totally different results. I'd buy another in a heartbeat.
Not so bad considering you have driven that much
Oh for sure. I had very minimal unexpected issues on it. Handful of bad wheel bearings, and that's about it.
@@nappyjim mine still have a long way to go. Same model year and still less than 40k miles :)
@@ws21cn yes long way to go!!
So nothing about how to fix it? Just 2.5 minutes of complaining? 🤦♂️
