fun fact: the pointillism or "dots" is actually because butterfly and moth wings are layered with scales made of chitin that give them their color, iridescence and even help in their flight! their scales also come in different shapes and sizes and is what give moths their signature fluffy look :)

@@emi_910 the chitin alone isn't what creates the iridescence, scorpions exoskeletons are whole pieces whereas a butterfly or moths wings are comprised of thousands of minute scales that reflect multiple light wavelengths

@@drawingwiffwaffles I donât use it very often, but it looks cool. You can just scribble and if you turn on the circular symmetry thing it will look like a nice abstract spiral,

Those âcellsâ on the butterfly wings are actually the veins! The drawings are all really pretty ^^
Lol no, the cells are the cells and the veins are the veins. The coloured parts are the cells and the black parts are the veins. Hence why she wrote that on her diagram and referred to those parts as such.

Butterflyâs actually have millions of tiny feathers đȘ¶ ,so if they just get the tiny at bit wet the feathers get soggy ,and makes it to where the butterflies well canât fly!

and thankfully most butterfliesâ wings are oddly water-resistant so small droplets of water roll right off. that makes it less of a problem if it rains, but you still wonât find any butterflies flying in the pouring rain.

I love how you break the subject down into familiar shapes that you see. I've learned to see things clearer by applying the principle- it's not always a clear geometric shape. Sometimes it's just a shape you recognise. Thanks Rin!

All your videos are so inspiring! I will usually only draw people, but your experimentation with different things inspires me to try new things đ„°
I havenât drawn in months. This channel (one other as well but the focus on painting) has motivated me that hard and scary drawings donât have to start off extremely detailed. All those time wasting details scared me away from drawing. I recently found out I do really well with blending but not so much shapes and designs, which is why I thought I wasnât fit to draw at first. You being able to draw all these shapes inspired me to start practicing. A couple days ago I actually tried drawing my first human in a while. I was surprised how it turned out, but itâs mainly thanks to you. Thereâs still MANY flaws in that odd-shaped human like the torso and legs were the same size, and the feet were pointed to the side instead of straight because I donât know how to draw feet going straight. The eyes scared me the most cuz that needs the most consideration in shape and design other than hands. Hair was pretty easy since I see you draw hair in the small sketches. I didnât add color cuz I didnât want to mess it up, and I shaded using pencil. Iâm going to keep trying though! Last year I drew background stuff, and enjoyed it a lot, but I feel like I should add humans and animals in them for more design, which is why I gave up art at first. I finally got good at background stuff, but now I have to make it better by using designs I suck at? But Iâm getting better! After this Iâll have to deal with what colors I should blend together, but Iâm more vibrant-y (artsy words haha) so Iâll try to make colors like that when the time comes, or whenever I get bored of humans. Iâm going off topic again, so again, thank you!

I have been painting butterflies with watercolors lately, I found this amazing book at the library with over 5000 butterflies in it so I have been trying to do one a day 'inspired' by one of them in the book. I really enjoyed your process of actually learning about the anatomy first, I really just jump in and try to draw what I see, which can be hard sometimes if you don't really know how the subject works! I didn't draw along as I always have the same dilemma with your videos, when you upload them it's usually around dinner time here in the UK so by the time we have eaten and cleared up etc it's usually the evening and I want to wind down rather than start being inspired lol! I could wait and watch it the next morning but.... That involves waiting. And patience. Neither of which I am very good at đ€Ł
However, the video has made me want to possibly break out the gouache and do some big, bright, splashy and colourful butterflies and florals soon! Your monarch is beautiful - and your "mistake" with the red-orange on the far wing actually made it look like it was behind the other and in shadow, like the reference picture had a darker back wing too!
