This is EXACTLY what is going on with my 2011. Bottom of the door pushed in somehow, bending the hinge, where the fuel door only opens half-way. Thanks for the repair ideas!
Thank you so much for posting this. I moved to the Midwest from the south, never had any trouble with rust before. It functions better than ever now after a little wd40.
My door did the same thing. I know the other commenter said it was caused by rust but I’m not sure how rust bends metal. Anyway I sprayed it with wd40 until all the rust was out then bent the door out like you did as my was rubbing on the bottom as well. I also bent the hinge wire so that it didn’t catch. Finally cleaned the entire area coating the inside metal parts with wd40. Works better now than ever. Thanks for your help.
Spraying WD40 on painted surfaces is a very very bad idea it will eat up the clear coat & paint, the longer it sits on the paint the paint will become soft & flake off the area that was sprayed in days so if anyone who is thinking following the advice of whats shown in this video dont do it paint damage will occure in short time.
Thanks for the reply, you didnt offer an alternative solution. Maybe try silicone spray or other lubricant if you like. I just showed what I did. I would clean up any overspray or extra right away and not let it sit on the paint. I did this years ago now and not had any issues with the paint or the door.
Dude. There's rust in there, the buildup of rust caused the filler door to become displaced. Spray the wd 40 in there til it stops bleeding out the bottom. It will eventually break part of the spring and you'll have to get a new door , all Toyotas rust bud, just like every other vehicle brand. I've had 3 lol
Have this exact problem with my 3rd gen Tacoma. Nice fix.
