      Thank you Craig! Ah most dash cams that require a 3 lead hardwire kit will usually need all 3 wires to be connected in order for the dash cam to work correctly. What I recommend when someone does not need park monitoring, is just to turn it off in the settings menu (most dash cams will let you turn off this feature). Cheers!

    For anyone else who may be having issues with their install.
    My wires were labeled incorrectly. Meaning my battery was labeled accessory and my accessory wire was labeled battery.
    I only figured this out because when i plugged my accessory wire into my constant fuse terminal and my bat into my accessory, did my G850 start to record with the car off.
    Side note: you will know when the mirror cam is recording without the car powered on, because when you turn off the car, the mirror cam stays on, and if you tap the screen it will something like "inoperable, turn on acc mode "
    I forget the exact wording

    Can you extend the USB-C with another cable or rear-angle bend for wiring purposes?

    • @AlexAutoFun
      @AlexAutoFun  Před 7 měsíci

      Hi Jason! The USB connector used is a standard USB C connector so technically an extension or adapter could be plugged in. However I would probably not recommended it since some extensions and adapters are not pass through and may also contain components which while compatible with the USB C standard, they may not be compatible with the USB C connector as used by the dash cam (remember dash cam manufacturers use the USB C connector for the connector only, they don't necessarily follow the USB C standard). There is also the issue of affecting warranty if something fails down the road with the vendor potentially pointing to the use of an unapproved device added to the dash cam install. That being said, the good thing is that out of the 60+ plus dash cams that I have installed, I have not had the need to use an extension or an adapter so their use may not be common on the industry unless the installer is new or unexperienced and routes the cable in an usual and extra long path to the dash cam. Cheers!

    What is the amps of the molded fuses or are they actually fuses or just dummies to make use of the fuse box? Want to use this with my can am sport side by side. It has a terminal module with always on and accessory/run posts. Wondered if could just cut fuse ends of and attach to the posts on the terminal module. Wondered though if the mirror actually has fuses (and why I asked in the first question) then I would need to also buy some inline fuse holders and solder them to each wire and put the appropriate fuse in them before attaching to the terminal posts.

      Hi P! While it is possible to wire accessories directly to the battery most installers will not do that due to the extra labor involved. The cables have to be run all the way to the battery thru the firewall, and then connections at the battery will need to be made ensuring they are correctly fused and secured, then a source for ACC (switched power) needs to be developed etc. Cheers!

  • @knakamura24
    @knakamura24 Před 6 měsíci

    I like your videos. This particular one fails to address a very important issue. When using fuse taps or in this case, the molded fuse, there is a specific direction the fuse needs to be inserted. In the fuse panel, one side is the load (hot) and the other is the device. If you put the molded fuse in where the wire is on the same side of the hot on the fuse panel, then it will not be fused at all.

    • @AlexAutoFun
      @AlexAutoFun  Před 6 měsíci

      Thanks Kyle! Ah yes fuse taps have only one correct orientation (as you stated to protect the circuit). This hardwire kit video is only intended to be an overview of the hardwire features and preparation for installation. If you want to see the details of the actual installation (including fuse tap orientation), I cover that on the dedicated hardwire installation video I mentioned on this video hardwire kit video. I found a 15A constant power fuse but the ACC fuse in my truck is 7.5A. Can I plug the red wire into that or must it be plugged into a 15A spot? I hope that makes sense.

    • @AlexAutoFun
      @AlexAutoFun  Před rokem +1

      Hi Jeff! Ah remember a functional fuse tap creates 2 separate independent circuits (each one with a different amp rating partially determined by fuses that are loaded into the each fuse slot in the fuse tap) The fuse removed from the car in the fuse tap bottom slot and the second fuse (top fuse) is for the hardwire kit. So they are each independent of each other. So I'm not necessarily looking to match a fuse amp rating on the car with the fuse amp rating of the hardwire kit (sometimes it does happens but when it does it's coincidence LOL). Here is another video czcams.com/video/K2iKXj82354/video.html where I cover this in mode detail and here my other hardwire kit so you can see another example of the install czcams.com/video/uZp95NbNlmM/video.html Hope this makes sense, Cheers!

I would have the installer check all the connections (ACC, BATT & GND) to confirm that they connected to the correct locations for ACC and BATT (I seen cases where the dash cam stays on constantly if ACC and BATT are reversed or connected to the incorrect locations that does not provide power at the correct time for both ACC and BATT) Here is my follow up detailed hardwire install if you want to see that process czcams.com/video/K2iKXj82354/video.html Cheers!

    why so complicated? The heads of some hardware kits are already equipped with a 15A fuse at the factory. (as in your video) You can either plug them directly into the actual fuse slot or replace the existing 15A with another one. My ACC fuse, for example, has a 5A fuse. I took out the 15A and put in a brown 5A. The adapter is actually useless. It's only useful if you can't find a free socket for a permanent plus.

So they installer may have to check that the places being used for power continue to have power after an extended period of time. And you can also contact Wolfbox for tech support, they may be able to walk you thru some troubleshooting steps. Hope this helps, Cheers!

      @@user-um8hv5md1w Hi again! Ah yes testing parking mode is easy (I can probably make a video on it, good suggestion) What I do is I turn off the car but stay inside of it. I then wait a few minutes (some dash cams have a built in delay before park mode becomes active to give you time to exit the car) then I just tap the dash cam with my hand (of park mode supports G-Sensor) and that should trigger the recording. Hope this helps, Cheers!

      Hi Roxana! I would have the installer confirm the installation is correct, it should definitely not do that if hardwired correctly. The incorrect circuit was likely tapped for power. Here is my video where I cover this in more detail czcams.com/video/K2iKXj82354/video.html Cheers!

      Hi humberto! I would have the installer confirm all connections to confirm they connected to the correct locations for ACC and BATT (I seen cases where the connections for ACC and BATT are reversed or connected to the incorrect locations that does not provide power at the correct time for both ACC and BATT). @AutoFun I installed it it was the ground cable. It's working now I'm just curious how the time-lapse or parking mode works. Bc the camera turns off once I turn car off. I know In in the correct fuses bc I have some led lights one are constant and I have a kill switch for them. The other only turn on when I turn the ignition. Do I have to have the GPS part of the dashcam on in order for it to work?

      @@hmontalvo90 You're welcome! Ah regarding parking mode, that depends on which dash cam you are using. I would recommend referring to the dash cam's manual to confirm the different park monitoring options for it and how to enable them. Hope this helps, Cheers!

    How many hours you think the dashcam stay powered before it shutdown due to the battery going down? I have the G900

    • @AlexAutoFun
      @AlexAutoFun  Před 2 měsíci

      Hi Sam! Ah good question, that will depend on the car's battery, size, age, health condition and state of charge. In addition to that you also want to take in consideration any parasitic draw from other items on the vehicle that use power when the car is off. This is specially common on newer vehicles. For example I have an older Jeep that can sits for months a time with little to no battery draw, then I have a 2017 car that will almost completely drain my battery in a few weeks if the car is not used (and that car does not have any aftermarket devices connected to it). Here is the battery tester I use czcams.com/video/kCNrfa8RUKU/video.html if you want to test your battery for capacity and health, it can also perform a parasitic draw test if needed. I do carry one of this on long trips czcams.com/video/5eoewaav43A/video.html just in case but again I think my case is a little more extreme since most people only run 1 hardwire kit at a time and I run several kits on my car. Cheers!

      @AlexAutoFun just installed g900 with obd hardwire
      Enabled parking mode as triggered by g sensor. Put g sensor on high.
      The camera stays on after turning off the car. Never goes in parking mode. What's going on?
      Update: never mind. It takes about 3 min from the time I turn my car off to go in parking mode. Which is to me. It's kinda of long time.

      @sambee5748 Hi Sam! I'm assuming your using the Wolfbox OBD hardwire kit but yes some dash cams have a delay before entering parking mode (to enable you and passengers to exit the car) to reduce false recording when closing the vehicles doors. Addionally OBD2 adapters that enable park mode use voltage detection to determine when the vechile has been turned off, some vehicles have residual voltage longer after shutting down, which in turns tells the adapter the vehicle is still shutting down and causing a delay until the vehicle voltage drops to normal levels when parked (video on how this adapters works coming stay tuned) Cheers!

      Hi Cortes! Assuming the dash cam is hardwired correctly with the official hardwire kit and parking mode is enabled, park monitoring should be working. What I do to test it out (if set on G-Sensor) is I stay inside the car after turning it off and wait a bit (some dash cams have a delay before entering park mode) then I bump the dash cam to see if the impact triggers a recording.
