James Rowe A train-wreck? Well, beauty is in the eye of the beholder of course. I would make this comment though ~ that if this is difficult for some people to read it’s just through not having much experience of calligraphy. I’ve heard that in America children are taught only to print. Here in the UK, cursive handwriting starts young, or at least it did in my schooling. I have no problem at all reading this, to me it is easily legible. Apart from it having a clearly very fine aesthetic, I get the sense that this 10 year old boy took great pride in trying to attain this aesthetic. It’s certainly not a train-wreck to me.
It is amazing how an object, like this school book, can immortalize a person. You may not know who your ancestor was as a person or who he was to you but he survives in memory through that book and the writing in it's pages. In your memory, even how little you know of him, he still lives.
Little did Rob Marshall know that one day his handwriting would leave people from all over the world awestruck. Thank you so much for taking the TIME to share with us this wonderful glimpse into the past, Helen! It makes me wonder what we will leave behind.
I refuse to believe that a little boy could have such beautiful hand writing. I am EXTREMELY jealous right now. On another hand, I love these pointer videos. They are my absolute favorite. There's something about the sound it makes when it hits paper. Either way, thanks for the video! :)
Rewatching my favorites here in 2022. Excellent and talented work. I’m in my 40s and my hand writing was NEVER that beautiful!! So very neat. What a lovely treasure.
This is absolutely delightful as always! I'm so glad you decided to make new videos! You're definitely one of my favourite ASMRtists and you've inspired me to do my own videos! Thank you so much!
Whooooa---nice sounds and images! I love the gloves and the sound of the leaves as they are being tapped. The historicity of your book is so interesting: how many miles have I traveled in a post chaise and how old is the earth, calculated from Genesis, not according to geological evidence. Fascinating and lovely ASMR all at once. Thank you, SoundSculptures! Best, WD
I was saving it for a rainy day :) I sometimes do that with my favorites. I'll store away one or two videos if I'm not sure they'll ever make another- and then watch it when the itch gets too crazy to ignore.
Ahh, the magic pointer. Bliss. That book is remarkable. The side view actually reminded me of the grain in wood, how you can see all the layers and tell the age of it - back from whence it came :) Nice gloves, you suit them.
This was amazing! It's so cool that a kid could right like this. I'm kind of inspired to learn how to write like that now. :3 Anyway thanks for the relaxing video, SC!
Really a fantastic find. Kind of sad handwriting is a bit of a lost art. I'm not complaining about keyboard though. Either way its relaxing and thanks for sharing this with us.
that's a really fascinating piece of family history you've got there. if it was me, i'd frame up that R.Marshall page and put it on my wall. thanks for sharing!
The book is ~amazing~. Wish we could send a message back in time to tell him that. Makes me wonder how much talent we've lost to kids watching television and playing video games.
Wow, very interesting, if the year of the book is correct it was dated when Melbourne was only 3 years old! Also only a generation away from the American Revolution.
Ahhh... Thank you that was very relaxing and interesting. So glad I decided to check out the channel for once. I would be afraid to touch a book that old out of fear I would destroy it.
It's so you don't damage the item unintentionally. Like when people sell fine ACTUAL jewelry or handle priceless items all the time they use gloves to both keep finger prints off of the item and so the oils from human hands don't damage the item.
Wow I wished they would still teach penmanship in todays school where I live. I can hardly read some peoples writing and my own in rather atrocious I need to improve it. I mean that ten year olds writing is better than most thirty year olds that I see.
Hm i dont know it really genius how you hear thing like in the head massage clearly behind you but somehow when the think is in front its seem more like being on the side rather then being really reproduced as front audio.
I watched this video a while ago, and another person asked him the same thing. I think he said that the book was from an ancestor of his. It was probably passed down to him.
Well, good going, early 19th century! You just made an early 21st century man feel like a complete and total tit, with your beautiful writing and astounding artistic talents.
Agree. Reading, studying and playing video games would make you more intelligent and talented than just Reading and studying. However... when you substitute studying with just playing video games/watching TV you are at a loss - and thats where we are today.
I think quite a few neat things have come from the advances in technology due to gaming like better and stronger computers and other such things. But I do agree on some levels that over the course of time education towards children has become increasingly lacking of discipline compared to what it used to be.
actually, playing video games improve brain function. They make you work all parts of your brain. Such as memory, reflexes, problem solving, and visual skills.
maybe, but there are online games were you communicate with other people, there are also games based around creating your own worlds using all kinds of imagination, and as for physical fitness, i guess that,s why they are making fitness games. all though, no one plays those. lol
I can't believe I missed this... CZcams auto-unsubscribed me, making me officially hate it. We don't need any more new features, just stop breaking stuff, CZcams!
I am all for technology and typing, but I think humanity lost something when society no longer writes this beautifully.
No. No we didn't. Text should be easily legible. I feel awful for the children that were subjected to this train-wreck they call a school textbook.

When you finally turn in your homework for a late grade...

Absolutely amazing. Certainly not any 10 year old from recent generations. Wow. Just wow.
Whooooa---nice sounds and images! I love the gloves and the sound of the leaves as they are being tapped. Thank you so much! I hope you like them! :)
With old objects like this, I always wonder if the original creator realized that people would still find it interesting so many years later.
Welcome back! Good to see you uploading again :) Always love your videos x
So glad I stumbled upon your page. Thank you!!!! LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE
You're back! Awesome!

I was saving it for a rainy day :) I sometimes do that with my favorites. I'll store away one or two videos if I'm not sure they'll ever make another- and then watch it when the itch gets too crazy to ignore.
And thank you sooo much for sharing. This book is exquisite x
Ahh, the magic pointer. Bliss. That book is remarkable. The side view actually reminded me of the grain in wood, how you can see all the layers and tell the age of it - back from whence it came :) Nice gloves, you suit them.
That delicate pointer use destroys my mind, I love it.
Thank god you're alive!
You're back! Thank you and HURRAH!!
Love it, so relaxing. Thank you!
Fascinating and relaxing at the same time!
I am studying to be a historian at university and this has absolutely fascinated me. This was brilliant, thank you! :)

This is so cool and interesting!

Please tell me that's a clock in the I can hear in the background and I'm not just going insane.
The book is ~amazing~. Wish we could send a message back in time to tell him that.
Makes me wonder how much talent we've lost to kids watching television and playing video games.
And to think I wasn't going to sleep tonight!:) glad to know I will now! Thankyou.
It's like Christmas every time you upload a video. -No one- does ASMR like you. Not even close.
That's amazing!
Wow, very interesting, if the year of the book is correct it was dated when Melbourne was only 3 years old! Also only a generation away from the American Revolution.
Yayyyyyyy Helen's back again!
Im so glad that she is somewhat returning :')
how did he write so straight without lines?! it's impossible
Ahhh... Thank you that was very relaxing and interesting.
So glad I decided to check out the channel for once.
I would be afraid to touch a book that old out of fear I would destroy it.
Superb video.
great idea
very good. thanks
What a remarkable handwriting
A book binder can fix the spine of the book. They're hard to find and a little pricey but they'll make the book brand new looking
It's so you don't damage the item unintentionally. Like when people sell fine ACTUAL jewelry or handle priceless items all the time they use gloves to both keep finger prints off of the item and so the oils from human hands don't damage the item.
perfection
Damn how'd you get your hands on this piece of history! Super cool video :)
tingles within 10 second of watching
I was awake way too late last night watching E3 at 4am here in the UK. Hopefully this will give me an early night tonight ;)
Oohmahgahd ohmahgahd oh my glob you have been missed soooo much!!! We love you
:D long time no see!
good asmr
Did the little boy do the eagle & snake drawing on the front cover as well or is that a print?
I can't view it either. Every time I try it says 'playback error' and it doesn't happen with any of your other videos
yes you are here!
How did you put that book there before putting the gloves on? Or did you have another pair?
Wow I wished they would still teach penmanship in todays school where I live. I can hardly read some peoples writing and my own in rather atrocious I need to improve it. I mean that ten year olds writing is better than most thirty year olds that I see.
That's the handwriting of a 10 y.o.? That is amazing! Very beautiful.
+soundsalive Agreed!
That book cover makes it look like it belongs in the world of myst
Any way you could re upload? It never has loaded for me
Hm i dont know it really genius how you hear thing like in the head massage clearly behind you but somehow when the think is in front its seem more like being on the side rather then being really reproduced as front audio.
You should do an unboxing video of the new lego architecture set
Do you think you could reupload this? Because I can't view it.
I watched this video a while ago, and another person asked him the same thing. I think he said that the book was from an ancestor of his. It was probably passed down to him.
More please
Won't load on my iPhone :-(
That book's seen better days.
You're back! WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE zzzzzzzzzz
Well, good going, early 19th century! You just made an early 21st century man feel like a complete and total tit, with your beautiful writing and astounding artistic talents.

She DOES have lovely hands.
Ugh, really bummed this video doesn't work in my phone :(
Highest quality as usual.
I'm having loading issues on my iPhone
oh my god im like so high right now asmr wise lol
Are you a boy or a girl because one comment said yay Helen you're back
Ten year old boy?
Nowadays even most of the adults don't have this good looking handwriting...
Oh cool! We'll, I'm viewing on a mobile device so there is always things I don't see!
I think quite a few neat things have come from the advances in technology due to gaming like better and stronger computers and other such things. But I do agree on some levels that over the course of time education towards children has become increasingly lacking of discipline compared to what it used to be.
I'm having a loading problem on my iPhone
Probably because he's just being mean. :( I liked this very much. :D
actually, playing video games improve brain function. They make you work all parts of your brain. Such as memory, reflexes, problem solving, and visual skills.
This video has never loaded up for me sadly. So I have never been able to watch it.
wow!
can you make flap book sound with pointer? something like this link /watch?v=7p6T2s5GyyM but with sound...that would be awesome!
maybe, but there are online games were you communicate with other people, there are also games based around creating your own worlds using all kinds of imagination, and as for physical fitness, i guess that,s why they are making fitness games. all though, no one plays those. lol
its amazing what kids can achieve if you beat them with sticks
I can't believe I missed this... CZcams auto-unsubscribed me, making me officially hate it. We don't need any more new features, just stop breaking stuff, CZcams!
I'm not sure why but I got a strange urge to eat the book... weird
if he lived for 70-80 more years after, he'd had seen ww1
is this real
Yes! He is a relative, though we are unsure exactly who he was. Amazing ability with penmanship, and so young too!
wow a relative?! how neat!
What do you need gloves for when you have a pretty girly hands like that?
