Evidence that Vitamin D Supplementation Could Reduce Risk of Influenza and COVID-19 Infections and Deaths
    www.mdpi.com/2072-6643/12/4/988
To reduce the risk of infection,
it is recommended that people at risk of influenza and/or COVID-19,
consider taking 10,000 IU/d of vitamin D3 for a few weeks to rapidly raise 25(OH)D concentrations,
    followed by 5000 IU/d.
The goal should be to raise 25(OH)D concentrations above 40-60 ng/mL (100-150 nmol/L).
For treatment of people who become infected with COVID-19, higher vitamin D3 doses might be useful.
Vitamin D deficiency is relatively common
Especially among the elderly, the obese, and patients with comorbidities including hypertension, diabetes, COPD, and CKD
    Vitamin D induces
    Production of antiviral peptides (defensins),
    especially in the respiratory epithelium
    Vitamin D upregulates anti-inflammatory cytokines such as interleukin-10 (IL-10),
and downregulates pro-inflammatory cytokines including IL-1, IL-6, and tumor necrosis factor alfa
Vitamin D effects angiotensin-converting enzyme axis,
which has a protective effect against ARDS
Efficacy of activated vitamin D supplementation in coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19)
1-hydroxy-vitamin D was prescribed on day 1 or 2 (median duration 8 days)
To evaluate the effect of 1-hydroxy-vitamin D,
on the prevention of severe disease and mortality,
    in patients hospitalized for COVID-19.
Retrospective study, April 2021 and October 2021
    Primarily Delta variant
    Hospitalised 312 patients with COVID-19
Between July 2022 and September 2022
    Primarily Omicron variant
Serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D (25(OH)D) levels measured at admission
    1-hydroxy-vitamin D was prescribed
    Primary composite endpoints
    Need for additional respiratory support
Need for high-flow oxygen therapy or invasive mechanical ventilation
    In-hospital mortality rate.
    Experimental group
    (n = 122)
    Given 1-hydroxy-vitamin D
    Median age, 66
    Baseline vitamin D deficient, 77%
    Control group ( n = 190)
    Median age, 58
    Age difference (p = 0.06)
    Baseline vitamin D deficient, 65%
    Baseline D deficiency
    (p = 0.07)
(defined as serum 25(OH)D level less than 20 ng/mL)
Proportion of those requiring more respiratory support and in-hospital mortality
    Vit D group, 6%
    Control group,14%
    (p = 0.01)
    After propensity score matching
(to reduce bias caused by confounding variables)
    (P = 0.03 log-rank test)
Proportion of patients who received high flow oxygen
    Vit D group 4%
    Control group, 11% (P = 0.04)
    In-hospital mortality
    Vit D group, 3%
    Control group, 5% (P = 0.3).
    Need for additional respiratory support
    Vit D group, 6%
    Control group, 14% (P = 0.01)
    Conclusions
1-hydroxy-vitamin treatment may improve outcomes in hospitalized patients with COVID- 19,
reducing composite outcomes including the need for additional respiratory support and in-hospital mortality.

A few years ago my husband I decided to test our vitamin D levels and found that they were below average, even though we get plenty of sun since we live in Italy. We used supplements, but were getting slow results. Later on we had a genetic test which found that our CDX2 receptor for vitamin D was defective which explained why. Since then we have increased out vitamin D intake (+ vitamin K2, thank you Dr. John) and our levels are now in the higher range. We are 76 and 78 years old, alert, active and well!

I never heard of that receptor. I imagine it's hereditary, too. I'm half Italian, and my D is always below normal or normal but in the low end of the range. Maybe I should get tested. I've upped my D to 4400 a day and hope it helps. How much did you have to take, if I may ask.
P.S. No doctor ever told me to take K2 with the D3, but since finding that out on my own I now take both.

High doses (10K+) may lead to toxicity and kidney disease.
Definitely need more long term studies before I'd be willing to recommend higher doses...plus more research into actual effects on seasonal affective disorder, as at this point there's limited evidence at best that vitamin D can treat it.

They all work in concert and interact with each other in constructive and destructive ways. D3 and calcium supplementation should be taken with K2 for instance. Now a lot of people are saying that.
Someone asked him about vaccines being safe in pregnancy. At this point they were new. He did not say anything negative about the vaccine but noted that a friend of his had a still birth seven months pregnant right after taking the vaccine.
He knows a lot more now. He is in persecuted every witch way board complaints etc. decrease business for his pathology company but he has flown around the world a little sleep giving lectures to anyone that wants to learn about Covid. It does not matter whether you take a Vitamin D3 supplement or convert cholesterol into Vitamin D3 via the UVB light of the sun, we still need adequate magnesium for the activation process of Vitamin D. Thank you for all you do!!! Susan

Magnesium is an essential mineral and is critical in hundreds of processes in the body, especially hormonal balance, of which vitamin D is also a critical component.
Most of the population of North America is deficient in magnesium. Our soils are not rich in it, and petrochemical agriculture inhibits magnesium uptake in plants. This is how glyphosate kills weeds. It does so through inhibiting mineral uptake.

My level of vitamin D was about 55 ng/ml (140 nMol/l) a year ago. After an infection in my lungs, it dropped to 37 (92). It took me about four months to get back to 56 (140). Once or twice, I asked a lab to check for vitamin D myself (it cost between 15-20 euros, not that high). What struck me, the level dropped quite dramatically in the few weeks the infection lasted.

I live in Japan (Tokyo) & I'm surprised to hear vit D levels were low in Japan. There is a much higher intake of fish (i.e. salmon, herring & sardines) with high vit D levels in Japan than in western countries. That being said, Japan's COVID mortality rates were much better overall. I suspect the diet played into it. Thanks to Dr. Campbell, I started following his channel in 2020 & listened to his advice on vit D. I (unfortunately) got 4 jabs - I'm type-1 diabetic & there was lots of fear-mongering about risk levels for diabetics during the pandemic ... (thanks Pfizer, Moderna & CDC!). Actually Finland and Scandinavian countries eat a lot of vitamin D in their diet (herring especially aswell as other fish) and even have other food (milk, I think) fortified with it.
I'm Scottish and love salmon, herring, oily fish and seafood. There's a lot of it found in the North Sea and rivers here.
Sadly, Scots don't eat enough of it (they should, especially in winter) and the corrupt (allegedly) SNP Government didn't mention it never mind encourage eating it during the last few years and still don't.

Based upon various sources; Vit D appears safe up to 100 ng/ml. Recommended optimal levels varied from 40 to 80 ng/ml. In late 2022, my level was abt 70. Going to get it chkd again. My current dose is 6,000 IU/day. I am older white male, not obese, with no known comorbidities. Living near Southern border of Canada.
During Covid I attempted to advise over 20 ppl and couples abt Vit D importance. Virtually no one showed any interest beyond polite impatient listening. Surprising to me how little interest there was.
One of these, a very obese woman, was hospitalized. Another couple, were both infected with Omicron. Both had significant symptoms for abt 10 days. Stayed at home. Another older male was infected. Has had debilitating long Covid for over 18 mos. He can't work.

All through the pandemic working as an ER doctor I checked vitamin D levels and every patient I saw they came in and had a positive Covid test they were somewhat ill or older. I checked the level and all the people that I was getting the hospitalist service to admit. I think I admitted about three or 400 people in that first 2 1/2 years till Delta finally petered out. I only saw two people with normal levels. Everyone else’s level was low. Hundreds of people. I gave everybody 5000 units of vitamin D while in the ER but I don’t know if the hospitalist or infectious disease doctors ever continued it in those patients. I am skeptical of that. It doesn’t seem to be taken very seriously in America.
Ironically I got a fairly severe Covid case myself and had to be hospitalized with stroke symptoms confusion severe gastroenteritis in spite of being on 5000 units of vitamin D all through the pandemic. I never got my level checked. If I did I would’ve probably doubled up on my vitamin D and wouldn’t have had that severe illness.
Everyone find the doctor understands vitamin D and will check your levels and counsel you on what to do.
It works better if you use the D3 that has also got K2.

And an extra-big ** thank you ** for pointing out, after about 11:55, that what the conventional-medicine doctors call "acceptable" levels of Vitamin D are based on what you need to do to prevent rickets. I played that bit five times. Lord knows I needed the boost -- something to make me smile. Thank you again! You are such a treasure to so many of us. ❤

      @Jennifer-ky9bw Před 9 měsíci +1

If the autoimmune disorder is one with granulomas (such a sarcoidosis) then Vit D tricky. Granulomas will create d 1,25 the converted form of D in the body. This means the dietary D, sun exposure, etc., needs to be kept to a minimum to protect the body from creating too much of the d 1,25, which when too high causes calcium to dump from the bones. This causes osteoporosis, as well as a danger to the brain with a blood calcium level that is too high. Very important to know if a person has a granuloma disease when testing for dietary Vit D levels. A low level is a body's protective measure from the calcium dump.

The k2 moves ( mobilizes) the Calcium to our bone where it's supposed to go naturally. We get Calcium from eating meats, raw milk not processed milk, learn about kefir and how to make it.

Never had symptoms of anything. It’s just me but I’m sticking to what works and I do also take a bit of Vit K. I also have had everything pre diabetes, I was on O2 at night.
