2008 Honda VTX 1300R Hole Saw Exhaust Modification

  • This video includes footage from before the modification, footage of the modification on one of the exhaust, and the results of the modification. The video really does not do this modification justice, if you have a subwoofer be sure to turn it up as the modification results in a very deep exhaust tone

    I have had no problems. Since the video I put the hole saw on an extension bit and drilled out the inner baffle plate as well, that makes it much better again. I also had to do a air box modification and some carb adjustments for best performance which all the info can be found on wwwdotvtxcafedotcom. One great thing is that due to the bike being louder and throatier (if that's a word), people tailgate me much less than before.....which is the biggest benefit of this mod.

    You are correct, it is actually called the Hole Saw Mod, Clayton Root method is the drilled holes.

    @derek5351  Před 12 lety +1

    I have since done a deep hole saw modification and it sounds much better. I basically used an extension bit to drill out the next plate (about 8 inches in), I actually want to clean up the metal inside however have been unable to come up with something to grind away the left over metal on the sides. All the dremel and grinding drill pieces I could find have smooth connections so therefore will not hold in a spade bit extension. I may have to make a tool.

    i wish all these guys would do their videos like you did, you covered it good man.you made it real easy to hear the difference. i can save some money, and still have a great sounding bike. and the pipes do look good so why change em? and YES loud pipes save lives. theres a blind side on every car , but not on your ears!

    My 06 Honda vtx sound like that. Harley bags and fairing with 6x9 and amp. 8 1/2" HDs bars, didn't have to replace cables at all . I moved the turning light to the tag plate. 3 bolts hold the tag on remove 1 ran turning light wire n da hold hooded them up, made a plate to cover wires it look good. Peace

    I adjusted the Air Fuel Mixture Screw out to 2-1/4 Turns. I have since added some holes to the inner baffle with a long drill bit, it sounds even better now.

      Do you have to rejet the carb? Or is just drilling out the baffles all you need to do?

    • @paulcompton9311
      @paulcompton9311 Před rokem +2

      @@JesusChrist_IsTruth-LoveForALL Wow, this is a throw-back. I haven't had the VTX for about 8 years. You don't need to rejet if you just drill the baffle, but if you have a VTX1300 that hasn't had the carb rejetted, I would do a search on the VTXCafe to find out about it. There is what they call the .5 cent mod that improves things somewhat. I eventually went for a complete pipe replacement and did change the jets. The drilled baffles is a cheap option, but it doesn't really sound that great vs. aftermarket pipes. The best sound I had on that bike was probably the Cobra slipons.

    As far as neabours go,"fuck em". I spent most of my life worrying about what other people thought about this and that and tipy toeing around being sure not to piss anybody off. Then I realized that nobody else gives a rats anyway, so I installed the pipes that "I" like to my xvs1100, they are bloody loud and I leave for work each day at 5:15am

    • @DerekVTX
      @DerekVTX Před 7 lety +2

      Im Zeigen it is not bad at all. It gets nice and loud when you crack on it.....I often give it a crack when nearing an intersection to get attention. The cylindrical baffle is still inside. You just remove the outer resonators here, get an extension and remove the inner vertical baffle plate and then clean it all up with a rotary tool. If I had it back I would of included the later steps in this video.

      Yes, stick to the stock exhaust if you put down miles on your VTX.. Mine came to me with Cobra long speedster already installed and they sound sublime at idle and ludicrously annoying after five minutes on the freeway.

      Danny Baierschmitt Nobody buys new stock pipes.....LOL. The cylindrical baffles are actually still in there. But good point, I actually have to get an out of province inspection done soon on this bike as I have just moved to Alberta, who know? Maybe I will be forced into buying some HK3's soon...LOL.

    • @DerekVTX
      @DerekVTX Před 9 lety +1

      beau ray Yeah after this video I shimmed the main jet out with two 0.020" washers (I think), cut the big spring for the diaphragm for faster throttle response, cut the air box at the top to allow more air flow (Be careful there is a specific place to cut the hole so as not to bypass the filter), and bought a special tool for adjusting the air/fuel mixture screw and changed the number of turns (Sorry I forget how many now but I screwed it out to maybe 2.5 turns???). The bike runs way better now, plugs were burning bright white from factory, but now they burn a perfect tan color and the bike hardly ever needs choke (Only if very cold and even then it hardly hesitates). Everything I did I learned from www.vtxcafe.com. I also removed the reid and pair valves (emissions crap).

    • @DerekVTX
      @DerekVTX Před 8 lety

      Hey Kathryn, Have not noticed any back pressure concerns. Bike feels like it has more power than before. (Although I did adjust the air/fuel mixture and shimmer the main jet in the carb, and opened up the air box afterwards. Just the drilling seemed to have little effect besides sounding a hell of a lot better. Yeah that other dude should just buy an electric motor scooter.

    What you are doing here is violating the law. And not just the state law, but federal law as well. You are also displaying a total disregard for the rights of the public to be free from unnecessary noise pollution. You are not cool, man. You are a inconsiderate scofflaw, as are all riders who commit the same illicit act of tampering with a state and federally noise emission control devices. You should be ashamed of yourself! I hope you get a ticket for your illicit handwork and noise making!
