I've lived in Manchester and the surrounding areas for more than 60 years and the changes are amazing, for example the canals were derelict and smelly, there wasn't anywhere called the northern quarter it was just a lot of back streets and derelict buildings, take a walk up Oxford road ( or one of the hundreds of buses) and visit the Manchester museum, you'll spend hours in there and take a look at the church of the holy name, there's also the whitworth art gallery and then of course you're nearly at the curry mile ( it's probably better at night) I'm sure you'll find lots more places to visit and eat, enjoy Manchester

Hi Zoe and Chris, my son will be visiting Manchester in October for a United football match and I was wondering if you can recommend a few restaurants and hotels close to Old Trafford? We are from Toronto, Canada.
Hi Terry, it’s Chris here. The good thing about Manchester is it’s very well connected by a tram service which takes you straight to Old Trafford. I would recommend finding somewhere to stay in the City Centre as it’s only 15 minutes away from the stadium. As for hotels, depending on what your budget is, the Midland hotel would be a good option as it’s located by St Peter’s Square. If you stay somewhere close to St Peter’s Square tram stop, you can jump on the Navy, Pink or Purple line and be at Old Trafford in 10 minutes.
If you want something a bit cheaper, there are plenty of Premier Inns or Travel Lodges in the centre. Hope this advice helps and your sun loves Manchester as much as I do.
For food, you can’t go wrong with Mackie Mayor, which is a wonderful indoor food hall. We also love, Rudy’s got pizza, Evelyn’s does good small plates and I love Foundation for breakfast.
Get u a proper breakfast, bacon 🥓, or sausage, barm...or double up, and topped off with an egg 🥚....fookin 💥.....get u some of that....welcome to Manchester....always a top scran.....
