"One kid used Kelvin"
My kind of kid.
Rankine FTW?
would have been me due to my parents hahah
I hope someone uses their own temperature scale that they created
RIP Kelvin Smith 2005-2019. Murdered in oven by science experiment.
meh, my kid would've used Parker Squares.
>turkey temperature
me: boring
>cliff
me: best video ever
EXACTLY
I watch his Klein Bottle episode all the time; he's the best! I love watching people who truly love what they do
True.
Yup. Almost didn't watch the video since it sounded boring and I didn't know Cliff was in it :/
True that
So Numberphile finally ran out of cardboard.
Looked like they found some to me...
Cliff always like this
Nah, Cliff just seems like a recycling kind of guy.
I love how he just rips that bag for more of that sweet brown paper to write on. He's such a practical thinker.
Craft paper.
"Where did she stick the thermometer?"
That's too funny and it's really amazing that he can be so enthusiastic about teaching. A bad teacher would yell at the kid for not doing it right and he sees the way in which she outsmarted him and is so happy about it. What a great teacher, always sees the best in his students.
I was absolutely killing myself laughing after he said that!
"What are you watching?"
"Maths video"
"Ummm, ok."
Everyone knows I'm a bit weird.
ethics is a lesson that you can export from every experiment
I had a great math teacher like that in my advanced class in Grade 11. I'd always sleep through math class, waking up only to correct the teachers, and they would get annoyed by this and just pile on more questions to the boring homework I already wasn't doing but this teacher saw it as a challenge to catch my mistakes like I caught his and he'd often hand out little extra assignments for bonus marks that were just 1 question that was particularly hard and so I didn't mind spending the time trying to beat a challenge because it was a lot better than an hour of monotonous easy questions for homework. I was lucky enough to get him as my teacher in his last year before retiring.
@@potato4dawin1 Same here. When I was 14 a teacher ignited me with his passion and teaching method that I became a maths lover for the rest of my life. I am now 75 and as enthusiastic as ever.
false.
Any other person: Flips over the bag to continue writing
Cliff Stoll: Rips the thing wide open
any other person: uses bag to put in groceries and draws on regular paper XD
Cliff always skips multiple levels :P
Topology
Probably he already drew on the back xD
false.
I imagine Brady is grinning like an idiot when filming this as well because this guy's happiness is just too contagious.
Exactly! ❤
I'm grinning like an idiot just watching.

We need more Cliff Stoll! His energy is captivating.
There's a man that deserves a Knighthood
You could try to get hold of his book "The cuckoo's egg". I found it a great book to read, about how he accidentally became a computer security expert long before it was even a title.
he was also awesome in Back To The Future
I was smiling all the time during the video. He is so enthusiastic and I love it!
We need less.
Another way to think outside the box:
Step 1: Travel to Turkey.
Step 2: Measure te air.
So apparently turkeys bodys always conform the same temperature as their surrounding air? WHAT
@@nowonmetube I was talking about Turkey, the country.
@@gabor6259 😕
Do turkeys 🦃 live in turkey though? I asked this myself after reason this comment actually.
@@nowonmetube no, they only live in the Americas
yeah ,that's how Türkler think 😂👌
Would that every teacher had this much excitement about teaching.
I'm really grateful that I had a high school Physics and AP Physics teacher with the same enthusiasm as Cliff but also really humorous and funny :)
@Shaolin Panda Wishing to be someone you're not never ends well.
Very, very few people (even within academia or education) are THIS passionate about their subject.
@iOS SANOS 6, 7, 8, 9, 10...
Maybe they'd teach you to use verbs. :P
Tim: Temperature vs. Time
Jim: Temperature vs. Jime
Jemperature
Beef jurkey
Lame.
Or, as you might say: temperature vs lime
"Farenheight"
Jim's Beef Jerky
Tim's Beef Terky
How this guy is so energetic at his age?? ♥️
Because there are trillions of Maxwell's demons inside their body, pushing on all the particles and making them energetic.
1:47 short explaination
How is anyone that energetic at any age?
You jealous? I sure am
@@steliostoulis1875 yes me too. 😕
Imagine a world where instead of arguing about politics at Thanksgiving dinner we argued about solutions to math problems.
I pray for this world.
NP = P
Imagine a world where there'd be no need to argue about politics.
Imagine all the people....
next time you tell me you're a filthy bayesian
104 Fahrenheit is actually close to the nominal temperature turkey (106). I looked it up. Birds tend to run a little bit hotter than mammals. So either your student looked it up too, or she really did measure it.
In either way it was creative thinking outside the box.
"Where'd she stick the thermometer?!!" Yeah. That is a good question.
My first question was how the Turkey would react to being stuck with a thermometer every 30 minutes throughout the day, but that too.
Theres only one place.
??
the real-life Dr. Emmett Brown - excellent
Whoa this is heavy doc!
Have you seen his basement Robo-RC-forklift?
Great Scott!
Isn't he cosplaying him?
Can’t believe I’ve never realised that! 😆
I bet he pours his gravy from a klein bottle
One thing we can be sure of is that he doesnt keep the gravy inside of the bottle
@@JRabba1995 or can it?
@@crackedemerald4930 yesn't
@@JRabba1995 Well it only has one side so everything is both inside and outside the bottle simultaneously
Hopefully not...difficult to get the gravy out again unless it goes through the handle!
I can't get enough of Cliff! It's so clear he loves teaching and being surprised and sharing the unexpected no matter how trivial. If everyone's teachers were this enthusiastic, we'd all be so much better off!
Brady, I guarantee that if you put Cliff on the thumbnail, the video would be now in trending.
I wish I had that much energy, I'd be able to chase so many more people out of the woods
Why have I seen you on every video I've watched recently?
Lol
godspeed, Bigfoot
??
"How hot is this turkey?"
"Well, you see, the dynamics of heat flow through--"
"How hot is it?!?!?"
"Too hot to eat."
😂😂😂best comment everrrrrr🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
??
Had a high school algebra teacher that had the same Cliff energy, loved it then love it now
i had a teacher like this too! for physics, yehoshua.
Same here! I wish all teachers exhibited this kind of enthusiasm.
I have a friend who’s studying to become a math teacher and he has exactly this energy
Ah, measuring the temperature of a turkey in relation to the jime passed. A classic.
The jemperature of the jurkey
we need more wonderful teachers, so wise, they are not blinded by arrogance. this guy is amazing
Cliff is the type of guy to build a car that can travel to the future
Technically, every car can travel to the future
Damn, i just wanted to make a Doc Brown joke.
"When you're tired of Cliff Stoll, you're tired of life"
~ Douglas Adams (if he'd met Cliff Stoll)
Always amazing to see a new vid from Cliff, he's so energetic, ecstatic, enthusiastic and a bit eccentric
Teaching is the second-best job in the world. Not only CAN you be eccentric but you're EXPECTED to be eccentric.
I don't know how I missed this video! Cliff is my favorite human!
why didn't you put cliff in the thumbnail. would have watched this immediately if you did....
cliffbait. its not a bad thing.
It's not bait since you get the treat.
But the surprise was worth it

Man i clicked on the vid and saw Cliff's face full of joy, this man has a contagious excitement i love him so much
This is the type of guy we need as teachers. Super enthusiastic, he really WANTS the kids to learn, not just trying to get a paycheck
@Cliff Stoll. You inspired me as a kid, seeing your 'Cuckoo's Egg' documentary on BBC TV. You continue to inspire me now, 35+ years on, with this (and many other) CZcams programs. Thank you.
If I can spread a fraction of the joy, energy and passion you show for life and reality to the people around me every day, it will make the world that little bit better for it. Thanks to you, for showing me the joy and magic of always seeing the most fresh and childish things as the most important and vital things.
I appreciate it beyond words. But not beyond actions. Thanks!
I appreciate his correct pronounciation of chow mein - 炒面
@Bob Trenwith his is already the correct mandarin pronunciation,
chow mein i think is cantonese romanisation, but i'd be happy if he actually pronounce it the canto way.
@Bob Trenwith the spelling i guess was from very long time ago when a standard romanisation system haven't been invented. mandarin has 1 romanisation standard made by CCP while noone decided to make a standard for canto, so HK gov and various academics each invented/used different romanisation systems. the most used is jyutping.
Cliff actually learned to speak Chinese, though he's let it deteriorate a bit. I believe he studied in China for some time? Not quite sure about the hows and whys
He speaks Mandarin.
@@omikronweapon he taught in Beijing, I think.
The only guy across YT that I searched when it came across my mind when something involve math in it. Live long Mr. Stoll. The world needs you.
In the copying example Time -> Jime (because of Tim -> Jim) made me crack up :D And the part about kids spending thanksgiving with the family for the first time almost made me cry. What an amazing episode!
I would just like to say that Cliff is quite possibly the most energetic and excited human being I've ever seen, and the way he says partial differential equations just makes me happy. Im very glad to see him back on Numberphile again!
Cliff is my favorite kind of person, what a fun, easy experiment / demonstration!
Having watched numberphile for years and seen this particular chap on and off over the years... it's only *just* occurred to me that this is THE Cliff Stoll! Author of the extremely excellent "Cuckoos Egg", a book that helped set me on life of Computer Science.
I'm off to read it again now, thanks Cliff!
Cliff gets more passionate about learning than most Americans get about a holiday centered around food. This video's earned a like.
This man seems so happy to be making this video, bless him.
Knowledge is important, but his passion for science math and learning in general is what is so great about this man
If I am not this excited about my career when I’m older I don’t want a career
Many people are stuck in that position where you need a career but dont want it. My advice, unless you feel super passionate about a particular field, is to pick up skills which are broadly applicable amoung many fields. Ie. Computer science, accounting, stats, buisness. That way if you do develop a passion you can commit to it, and if you dont, you are at least employable. I am personally jealous of this mans boundless enthusiasm.
Dont go into accounting, AI will make it obsolete shortly after proffesional driving.
@@funmaster5249 I agree, you are better off having a hobby you are passionate about and a job that is not draining all your energy so you can spend some of it on a hobby.
That punchline got me, really love Cliff videos. Happy (Merry?) Thanksgiving from the other side of the Pond Cliff!
Seen all Cliff's videos 20 times, but still, that jump just at the 1 second mark, instantly surprises me XD great stuff
I love the energy of this guy, he's just great!
Thanksgiving day 2019. Thankful (even more than usual) for Numberphile - bringing us a video featuring Cliff Stoll’s delightful enthusiasm for math, science, and learning. The world could use more men like this.
I'm always thankful for a Cliff video.
cliff is one of those people who im fairly sure could find a way to make a phonebook reading entertaining. such energy and passion, we could all stand to be more like cliff.
Very interesting way of teaching. Cliff Stoll is a wonderful person.
Great video! Thank you. I really enjoy watching
I love your enthusiasm!
Man i just love this guy enthusiasm. Always in a jumpy good mood :)
His body constrained his mind.
God I love this man and his energy, I hope I'm like this when I'm older
I love each and every Cliff video, he brightens my day.
1:37
> 8th grade

Excuse me what kind of school is that?
If Cliff teaches with the same energy that he does these videos here, by 10th grade they'll have proven loop quantum gravity
he pointed out right afterwards that he wouldn't go there and just wanted them to realize the flow of temperature.
A korean one
I wish that school existed so I could go to it
The title should've contained:

Cliff Stoll is always so great to see on this channel :)
Make more video with this guy, he’s absolute genius
I wholeheartedly LOVE this man. It really made me smile like shit when I saw him jumping around in the first frames.
If you haven't already, consider checking out the Numberphile

Im glad there are teachers who reward their students for meming them
his excitement is so contagious and heart warming!
*Randomly pulls out a brown shopping bag and draws a graph on it

Thank you numberphile. That lit up my day.
If cliff was my teacher, I would actually do the work.
I love cliff, please do more videos with him
2:30 Ultimate brown paper for mathematicians. Anything that lies in your range :)
Also, Cliff Stoll video and my day is immediately better.
Oh man! I love Cliff! Saw this bundle of joy in the first second and knew I was in for a great time :D
Only if all teachers had this much of excitement towards teaching ! World would have been a better place 🙌 much respect sir
2:17 you forgot to change "Temp" to "Jemp" on the right paper sheet.
All I could think about throughout the video is: Cliff lives in a terminally cluttered "Craftsman" house, almost certainly pre WW1, that could be almost anywhere in the US. I don't think I could count the number of identical looking living rooms (minus the wonderful clutter) I've been in.
Yes! I love Cliff almost as much as he loves math.
It took me about 80% of the video to realize he was writing on a bag
5:22 that passion
Cliff has got to be the coolest uncle ever.
I really love Cliff his energy
yayyy cliff is here and my thanksgiving can be happy
When you realise this isn't a numberphile video but a timely suggestion to kids that it might be nice to spend time with your family on Thanksgiving and not be a twerp.
I love his excitement, can we more great teachers like him
A new Cliff video! It's a Thanksgiving miracle!
I was scrolling through videos, and I saw this one and was like, "Uh, I don't know…" But then it played for a couple frames and I saw that Cliff was there, and I was like, "I am watching this!"
A Cliff Stoll video! That's a nice Thanksgiving treat.
Love his energy. He reminds me of my physics teacher in SHS
Love this guy’s passion
I am a university lecturer and i find all his videos motivating and educative for me. Thank you!
Professor Cliff is just heartwarming.
I love Cliff's energy, it's so infectious.
I really respect how he says 'chao mein' correctly
I dont know why, but this made me cry. Thank you
3:21 you know he was going to say “one bastard even did it with kelvins”
I would be interested in the temp decay after oven removal. I envisioned a graph whose max point is something above the safe internal temperature for serving turkey, but which would stay "consumably palatable" for some minutes after removal, and that graph interests me more than the controlled acceleration. I might imagine that hitting 72 degree air would be more "violent" on the way down than the civilized rise. And how about when removed from the pan? And when cut open? And for really cool points, would it end that day at 98.6 F? Disclaimer: I don't know anything about anything.
I want to go back to high school just for this guy to be my teacher. This man needs his own channel with daily uploads.
Damn new Numberphile video. And with the enthusiastic dude, I cannot go to sleep now:)
Delightful :-) Thank you!!!
The brown paper is actually a shopping bag! And that's jazz!!
I had a teacher who did the same, but it was about cooling curves. So the measurements were from fresh out of the oven to ambient temperature. And if we had no turkey at home, we could come to a school thanksgiving party where there would be turkeys we could test.
This man is an absolut treasure.
If given this assignment, I would have done a graph featuring the body temperature of one of the turkeys in the shed.
Much like that one girl. And yes, there are specific implements for it.
